But maybe, just maybe, it's also possible that maybe a 64kbps AAC recording made through a little tiny crappy microphone just maybe isn't accurate enough to tell what was going on? Anyone who's trying to foment a ruckus here based just on hearing that recording ought to perhaps be quiet and reserve judgement until they can see the show for themselves or at least weight until some higher quality recordings appear.
Encoding to m4a does not create autotune. Audience recordings do not create autotune (regardless of device). It's there, it's one of the most extreme and obvious examples of autotune I've ever heard and it
only
affects Brian's vocals. If it were the device or encoding to m4a, you'd hear it on Mike's leads, you'd hear it on Carl and Dennis' leads, etc. and it's just not there. I can't understand logic like this, sorry. :\

There's another band I'm a fan of and they put on such a great show that I didn't notice the lead singer had his drunk voice on until I watched youtube videos of the performance much later. I think being there in person can leave you kind of jaded.
Luckily, the right people will probably read this and if Brian is indeed rocking the autotune, it will be toned down a bit during future performances.
Also, 18thofMay, who confirmed that Brian's voice was not being filtered through some sort of pitch correcting software?

There is something weird happening on Surfer Girl, and something suspicions on TWGMTR's verses but I don't hear anything on Heroes & Villains.
I highly highly doubt it is auto tune. It's not an easy setup to have in a live setting, so I don't think it would be worth having just for a few Brian's lines (and Brian doesn't really need it anyway).
Doesn't anyone feel most songs are played too fast?

it's the worst on Heroes and Villains, imo. And people going 'well, it's the iphone' are absolutely insane.
Also, who confirmed it?

Can you specify in what parts. e.g what words, you especially hear it?
Because, again, on H&V, I don't hear it all.

The melody on the verses jumps around too much in a way you cannot possibly sing because it's so up and down - Especially the second half of the verses - 'Fell in love years ago' and 'She's still dancing in the night' bits. It also goes bloody crazy on the 'la-la-la', the 'stand or fall' bit, his 'I've Been In this town so long' section, and you can hear it wobble during the chorus although he's being doubled by someone.
Essentially, every section of Heroes & Villains Brian sings on his own, he is wobbling all over the place and it's not because he's singing poorly. If it's not autotune, someone has stuck his voice through a phase or wah-wah or some effect like that. The pitch and phrasing is all over the damn shop.
To whit - a similarly crappy audience recording and a not great BW performance.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMZ_AF8PYPk
Does it sound the same to you? Agreed, there are bits when he slips out of sync with Jeff. But nowhere near to the same extent.
I guess I can't convince anybody if they are sure they hear a pristine unadulterated BW vocal.

The little girl i once knew sounds great. Just like the original from the 60's.
FOREVER: close your eyes and you know he is there. Really hope that this will be on the DVD so i can see what you guys did. Same for God only knows.
TIWGMTR live. Very nice. Brian had some starting problem at the beginning
but overall they did it very good.

Somebody said it is very difficult to do Autotune live.
Rubbish.
It's routinely done on live gigs and live TV broadcasts these days. Autotune is the work of the devil, especially where vocal harmony is concerned.
However I have not heard any of these Beach Boys recordings, unless someone is kind enough to Promise Me.
