I honestly can say that you'd probably have a better chance of rounding the bases than getting Smile info off of her.

 LOL

Kudos, that was hilarious.

I am still thinking a Vernal Equinox release date...it is so apropos for Smile!

Peter, I hope that you meant the AUTUMNAL equinox, as March 20, 2012 is a long way off!

Interesting, just found this

Jessie Webster, photographer just posted this on her twitter

Photoshoppin' away. This time I'm working on the release of The Beach Boys "Smile." Feels pretty cool working on a part of history!

http://twitter.com/#!/SweetThingBlog/status/90870580953366528

According to her website ( http://jessiewebsterphotography.com/ ), she is Guy Webster's daughter.   Very cool.

Webster was shooting the BBs' in 66/67 – could she be cleaning up dad's images for the booklet?

www.pipeline-operaglass.moonfruit.com usefully tells me he shot the pics for the original SMiLE booklet.

So maybe either Jessie's shot new portraits for it (from her website I'd say that was her speciality) or she's helping Dad clean up those older images for the new booklet. That's my guess.

If all this is the case then the product isn't as close to completion as I'd thought it might be… but work is going on furiously in several depts.

Or maybe I've just hit on one dept -  maybe Tom Recchion's art-directing Jessie Webster.  Actually that seems realistic.

Apols for "web-researching" and thinking out aloud during this post.

Who are the 10?

Definites:

Mark Linett, Alan Boyd [They're putting it together]

Extremely Likely:

Domenic Priore, Craig Slowinski [They're putting together the liner notes/articles]

More Thank Likely:

Van Dyke Parks, Brian Wilson [It's been said that they have signed off]

Probably:

Andrew Doe [So smug ...]

Maybe:

Mike Love, Al Jardine, Jonah Wilson [BRI Shareholders]

Tom Recchion, art director… and whoever he's directing with regard to the the artwork.

Updated: just spotted this on Mr Recchion's Facebook wall, from July 2: "another day at the SMiLE coal mine..."   He didn't reveal any more when asked, only said "my lips are sealed in a taunt smile".

And I'm sure that Recchion meant to say 'a TAUT smile,' but 'taunt' is oddly appropriate.

I wonder how long the work on this box has been going?

Just googled "Tom Recchion" Smile and "Beach Boys" and found this para regarding his current playlist from September 2010, at http://www.intransitiverecordings.com/music/playlist-tom-recchion/

"Yesterday and last week I played Jeff Beck‘s Beck-Ola, Stephen Stills‘ first record, John Cage‘s early piano music, the new remaster of David Bowie‘s Station To Station, some Beach Boys SMiLE rarities, John Cale‘s Fear and Paris 1919, and I seem to always be listening to something by David Toop."

Intriguing, at least!

Man, Guy Webster shot some of the best Brian photographs..

Every time we get a little nugget of information I realise what great hands this project is in..

But I know in 2 days I'll be back to being impatient

Take it with a grain of salt, but a few of the European retailers that had previously listed August release dates are now showing October 3...

Good... logical... if the European release is a week after the US street date.  Grin

Won, won-won-wonderful -- Andrew, you've finally given us some hard news! September 27th it is!! Thank you sir!!!  Grin

The Brian Wilson twitter account posted three photos of Brian at Capitol and the last one had the caption "And another ... so what's going on?"

Starting to get interesting for sure.

Think that deserves it's own thread..

Smile, reunion, new solo album, new BB Album or song?

So much might be happening it's destroying my brain

OK, anybody ready for some actual NEWS? This is not a joke...

Last week I emailed Dave Curtis, the guy who runs www.directcurrentmusic.com -- the website that first listed the July 12th release, and then changed it to August 9th. I got a response tonight, with a new release date and some (slight) information about the different configurations. Here it is, in full:

Quote
Hi Sean --

Here's the latest, fresh from the Capitol/EMI release schedule:

OLD DATE   NEW DATE
08/23/11      10/04/11      BEACH BOYS, THE   SMILE SESSIONS, THE (2 CD)
08/23/11      10/04/11      BEACH BOYS, THE   SMILE SESSIONS, THE (BOX SET)
08/23/11      10/04/11      BEACH BOYS, THE   SMILE SESSIONS, THE (VINYL)

Thanks for the note -- and reminding me that the old date was, well, old.

Dave

Hey, it's SOMETHING .....

I don't know if I trust those websites for the release date, they always seem to be wrong.

Well, he said it was from Capitol's release schedule -- all I can do is pass it on and hope it's true.

Steve Hoffman and his sychophants, control the release schedule
and oversee the content don't they?

Do they still have the power to burn people at the stake also?
For being heretical

An October date would bypass summer entirely which would
seem like a marketing faux pas for a group called  The Beach Boys.

I've talked to Dave Curtis at Directmusic.com before. He's a record industry insider and a straight-up guy. Like he says, he gets the latest release dates directly from Capitol/EMI.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Oh Hey I appreciate the info !

Oct 4, doesn't make sense to me ,but I'm not a
marketing guy. It seems early for Christmas and
late for summer. Maybe they are squeezing it
between other scheduled releases. I sure don't know.

An official date or tracklist sure would be nice, but even
then a tracklist could be a real can of worms in itself

I believe Capitol when they said this year, and I believed Andrew Doe
when he implied there was still a bit of mixing or packaging to do.

So Oct makes sense when you look at it that way
