If 9/20 is indeed the release date, then I would think that everything should be finalized 60 days out, so that production may begin for release.

It hasn't even been delayed once yet.  All that was announced was summer, and we have about 70 days left before that time is over.  The dates given by retailers have never meant anything.

Actually, they (Capitol/BRI) never even promised "Summer" -- the press release from March only said "this year." So, really, they haven't "dropped the ball," back-tracked, delayed, botched, f-ed up ANYTHING ... yet. True, they did say that more information would be forthcoming "soon" -- but in the grand scheme of things, even a month from now would be "soon."

AGD loves turning the screws on us. Even if he doesn't know anything he'll always be happy to give us the impression that he does. He's a malicious one.
You need to read between the lines. The fact that 9 or 10 know means a lot.

I'm sticking with Mr. Jardine. He said Summer, so it must be so. Wink

It's true -- a few people have said "Summer" and a couple others have said "September" -- but the official press release only said "this year." I'm with you though, and betting on September. Fingers crossed...

WOW!  You give Mark a lot of the credit/blame. Doesn't Capitol play into this somewhere?

As you surely know, if there's ONE human being on this planet who knows what will be on the SMiLE box, it's Mark Linett.

Actually, there's at least nine right now. No, sorry, ten.  Smiley

All I meant was, Yes, the inner circle knows about it, and sure, some people at Capitol could rattle off some song titles, but if there's one person who has the final tracklist burned into his soul right now, it's ML. But maybe there's two, with the other being our resident cheshire cat...  Wink

You're missing at least two very obvious people, neither of whom have the initials BDW or ACJ. Or indeed MEL.

Cheshire Cat, perfect for our dear Mr. Doe.  Grin

Grin grin grin (and if anyone here can spot me that reference, I'll be staggered)

Take it with a grain of salt, but a few of the European retailers that had previously listed August release dates are now showing October 3...

Good... logical... if the European release is a week after the US street date.  Grin

I remember when we were wondering if this would be released in May. They just need to release some  new information, they're really dropping the ball.

Not this 'we'... and no-one's drooped any balls. You need to stop hanging with Phil Cohen.  Smiley

AGD loves turning the screws on us. Even if he doesn't know anything he'll always be happy to give us the impression that he does. He's a malicious one.

Many things, but never malicious, except in the face of sustained stupidity. I've said September from the off.

Who are the 10?

Definites:

Mark Linett, Alan Boyd [They're putting it together]

Extremely Likely:

Domenic Priore, Craig Slowinski [They're putting together the liner notes/articles]

More Thank Likely:

Van Dyke Parks, Brian Wilson [It's been said that they have signed off]

Probably:

Andrew Doe [So smug ...]

Maybe:

Mike Love, Al Jardine, Jonah Wilson [BRI Shareholders]

If they would really release the SMiLE sessions in August, we would have had an official announcement of the release date by now. I'm still hoping for a September date...

Sadly, I must agree.  August is looking increasingly unlikely.

Take it with a grain of salt, but a few of the European retailers that had previously listed August release dates are now showing October 3...

The production and pressing and printing is all done!  Now we just have to wait for somone to tell us everything has been destroyed!!!!!

Can't imagine Capitol getting burned a 2nd time with the Smile cover or the album, for that matter. This baby is coming, and sooner rather than later. Personally, Fall is great time to release Smile. It's not your typical Beach Boys summertime album.

Didn't Jonah and Justyn jointly inherit Carl's 25% of BRI?  If so, we can't leave out Justyn.

Which is more likely.

The release date is announced first
or the tracklist is released first
or both at the same time ?

personally I would be satisfied with
the tracklist for awhile.

Updated: just spotted this on Mr Recchion's Facebook wall, from July 2: "another day at the SMiLE coal mine..."   He didn't reveal any more when asked, only said "my lips are sealed in a taunt smile".
