Wait, I'm confused. I thought the Brian mono mix of an instrumental version of "Child..." has already been bootlegged. And it's about 3:09 long. Or I am mistaken?

It's hard to blame the BBC or anyone else that is writing about SMiLE lately given that most of what they are writing come straight from the horse's mouth but to me it's kind of sad how the music is being painted as drug addled and drug induced music with little or no thought or purpose behind it.  It's kind of like all this great music and the environment it was created in is being pigeonholed as the product of some kind of mass drug freak out when the session tapes themselves tell quite a different story.

Carol Kaye I believe who was present for many of these sessions has gone on record that during the "SMiLE Sessions" Brian was actually very much in control of the proceedings and the bootlegs bear out that work was being completed in much the same fashion as previous sessions with the exception that Brian was now recording sections of songs instead of complete songs. 

Now we all know that drugs likely did play some hand in the demise of SMiLE but these articles at least to my eyes really take that whole perception to another level.  Also about the BBC article specifically the "Brian Falls Into The Piano" bit, I don't believe there has ever been any credible evidence that Brian was recording that stuff with the intent of including it on a Beach Boys album.  In fact I think I remember an article from 1966 where Brian was asked flat out if there were going to be tracks on SMiLE devoted to spoken word and he said there wouldn't be.

Some people do indeed have it - I guess the non-leaking is an honour thing.  And I was told that review copies used tracking as a deterrent!

The streams are watermarked, definitely, but I doubt anyone getting a legit copy of the box set about now isn't getting a watermarked copy or anything. Again, five days away, so retail copies have to be around.

That's right - the review copies were streamed and watermarked.  Samples of the actual box sets have no tracking that I know of.  I am lucky enough to have heard some bits of TSS and I think they are AMAZING.

Just out of interest, what's the 'label' on the disc ?

Right on the top it says "The Beach Boys, The SMiLE Sessions." Under that, it has the album cover with "Full Dimensional Sound." Under the artwork it says, "Drawing by Frank J. Holmes." And right at the bottom it says "Sampler." It has the official Capitol logo on the back and copyrights and everything. i'm not trying to spoil it for anyone. This just fell into my lap out of nowhere. it's just surprising.
