Holidays is a great track, I don't believe the theory that just because it was not yet returned to makes it obsolete for a possible track listing.

How about this - the track is so goshdarn perfect that Brian said "well alright, I'll just put this over here until I'm ready to cut vocals later."

Right.  It was so goshdarn perfect that they forgot to put it on the track list.

Along with a thousand other of your favorite parts from Smile, Jeff.

Apparently all the contents of the box magically float around ,assemble and rearrange themselves as in the video.
Of course that's after you drop your acid. Grin
I'm friggin ecstatic!!!!

I've never heard one bootleg.  I am over the moon with excitement.  I don't own the GV box either.

Wow -- you may need to be under a doctor's care to listen to the box set!  Wink

wonder if bwps will get a sales push from this release.

Even thought I still love BWPS, I very much doubt it. Until now, BWPS has been the closest thing to an official 'SMiLE'. Once 'The SMiLE Sessions' are released BWPS will become less relevant. I think that in the future it will be seen as little more than a temporary placeholder for "the real thing".

Since Linett supposedly mixed the album in mono for this release, maybe the 5th disc is the full album in stereo (similar to Pet Sounds box having the mono album disc)?  Why have just a handful of stereo mixes as bonus tracks?  Just have the whole thing that way.

That "real thing" is missing lead vocals and lyrics on half the tracks.

BWPS will still stand as the only completed, officially sanctioned release of those songs.

Wow.  The last half hour or so has been such a barrage of information and excitement that I'm not sure if this is all real or I'm still dreaming!  The last 20 or so pages of this thread, the Amazon listing, the video - I feel like my head just might explode at any moment here.

Everything looks (and sounds) amazing - Capitol really took the time to do it right, and it shows.  I never would have dreamed that the packaging would look so incredible, and the few audio bits from the video really jump out at you.  Figures, I just posted in another thread before clicking in this one saying how boring the "Heroes" chorus was, and then I hear it come to life anew.

The box set track list will be interesting to see, and naturally I'm as curious as everyone else with the two-part "Heroes" and the 1967 "Surf's Up."  I highly doubt that the year is a mistake, as these guys know their Smile history as well as any of us here.  Can't wait to delve into everything, it'll be like Christmas x 1000.

Man...what a day!   Cool

Pretty odd silence from the BW/BB camps. Not one mention of all this fantastic news.

Damn at least plug the thing on Facebook or something

I expect they're letting Capitol take the lead. I suspect -- just suspect, mind you -- that they have a marketing plan for this.

I think monday will be when it kicks off - iirc, the initial press release was on a monday or tuesday precipitated by a smaller announcement on the Friday beforehand.

Really? I'm almost positive that the full on announcement came on the day of the tsunami which was on a Friday.

Any chance that one of the discs will be an alternate "1966" tracklist?

Yep, the militant crowd is never going to give up on this one.  I take it you won't be buying any of the new SMile releases?

Did you just pull that out of your ass or is there some hidden message in the post you quoted?

I don't why you would think I was militant. Both of the things I stated are simply factually true. This is what I wrote:

Quote
That "real thing" is missing lead vocals and lyrics on half the tracks.

Some 40 percent, actually. Seven of the 17 tracks of BWPS never had lead vocals recorded for them in the '60s, and four of those have new lyrics. The point is, whatever way you assemble the original sessions, you will be missing swaths of lead vocals and lyrics, which generally are needed to make songs "complete."

Quote
BWPS will still stand as the only completed, officially sanctioned release of those songs.

I don't see anyone attempting to add lead vocals or new VDP lyrics to this release. Thank god! So, yes, BWPS is the only _completed_ -- in the sense of full lyrical and vocal takes on the songs -- version of the material.

I'm _not_ arguing that that makes BWPS the official release of Smile. I'm _not arguing that it's better than the original sessions. I wholly accept and back the notion of it as separate and complete from the 66-67 sessions, which are masterful on their own terms. However, BWPS is finished and complete on its own, while the 66-67 sessions will never be. This is simply true. This is not meant to attack, belittle or boost anyone.

I have my orders in for the big and little box sets.

We won't know that for sure until we see the tracklist for the box. The product description for the 2-CD set doesn't say that there's anything exclusive on it, so I'm thinking there won't be ... but you never know.
