As for P**l C***n -- seriously, don't unban him until at least one of us actually purchases this thing. We don't want to find out that it's being pushed back so he can be all "I told ya so!" about it.

The Mrs. brought up a good point: with the economy the way it is, Capitol would be stupid to price it too high. (Then again, Capitol doesn't exactly have a history of genius.)

I was told by Spin CD that the cost of the box would be around the £125 mark.

Seems kinda acceptable in comparison with the rather inflated Achtung Baby mofo box set of around £325.

I guess there's also quite a deficit to pay off with regards to all the income generated off the bootlegs over the years. I guess the high price tag helps re-balance the Capitol books a little.

How would sales of something Capitol wasn't offering in the first place have affected their books?

I'd like to get a little boring and say someting about the cover of the set. I think its whats known as Lenticular printing. Heres a pic.....

This is from Wikipedia "Lenticular printing is a technology in which a lenticular lens is used to produce images with an illusion of depth, or the ability to change or move as the image is viewed from different angles."

Actually, I don't think they're using lenticular technology for the cover of the box; it looks like the cover itself is molded to have an indentation where the doorway would be. This would be significantly cooler than just a lenticular cover which has shown up on all the special editions of the HARRY POTTER DVDs!

Now don't start seeing things and saying that "The Child is Fat" is another lost track! (Just teasing.)

That would be subtitled "Song for Carnie", then...  Roll Eyes

Can anyone tell if the Brother logo disc is Disc 1? The Capitol rainbow looks like it has a disc number, but I can't make it out. Any eagle eyes out there? Wink
I can't make it out, either, but I would guess that the Capitol disc is disc 1, the Brother disc is disk two, then Goldstar, Western, and Sunset, in that order.  Just a guess.
That's what I'm assuming, as Sunset is disc 5 and disc 1 is likely the 'closest approach'.
BRILLIANT, totally BRILLIANT!

I am a HUGE fan of BWPS, I will always and forever love BWPS, but I am so, so, so looking formard to this new set by Brian and The Boys!  I expect my mind to be totally blown away!

P.S.

All Glories to Sri AGD!

As soon as I logged on and saw the thread had jumped five pages since this morning I knew something had been announced. This is great news and a great time to be a fan. Thank you Mark & Allen, thank you Capitol, thank you Frank, thank you Van Dyke, thank you Beach Boys and most of all thank you Brian for daring to imagine all those years ago.

And Phill, we're not the kind of guys to say "We told you so", but............................"WE TOLD YOU SO!"

On the one hand, Brian may have destroyed tapes. I don't know. If he did destroy tapes I have a feeling he would mean masters and not work tapes.

On the other hand, maybe it is still BS and they found a whole stack of masters. Hoohay!

On the third hand, you all can think what you want about BWPS v. SMiLE and I'll think what I want and we'll still skip through life hand in hand.

Er... Cam, ol' pal... check out the photo.  Grin

So...

Ol' pal, I'm confused by the answers. Maybe because my post was confusing. I wasn't commenting on the boxset, when I typed "BS" I meant bull dookie. Or did I misunderstnad you and.....where am I?

5 CDs - check.

Double vinyl - check.

2 45s - check.

Hardback book - check.

Separate original booklet repro - surprise check.

Poster - surprise check.

3d box - cool check.

I'm now going to stay inside - IN MY ROOM - until November - no way am I going to leave the building before I hold it in my hands.

Wow... just wow.... incredible... The packaging is absolutely gorgeous.... It's everything most of us dreamed it would be.  MAJOR kudos to Capitol, Tom Recchion, Alan et al.

A few initial thoughts...

(1)  Did anyone notice that the Vega-Tables 45 sleeve appears to feature Frank Holmes' drawing of  "My Vega-Tables / The Elements" from the original booklet?

(2) Four of the discs appear to be labeled "Disc 1," "Disc 2" etc, but the Brother disc does not appear to be so labeled.  Is it fair to guess that it's the "bonus" disc?

(3) Shaking my head that a few of you looked at this and screamed, "Fake!"  I mean, come on, one look at the 3d effect on the box should have put aside any doubts.  If anyone has the time and talent to pull THAT off realistically, he missed his calling as a professional art forger.

(4) Kind of surprised that to see the 'full dimensional stereo' banner on the LP jacket.

(5) The hardbound book is pretty thin and does indeed look to be only about 60 pages.   Probably for the best, though, that they didn't go overboard with essays.  Let the music speak for itself.  Also, less chance of offending anyone (as happened with the Pet Sounds box).

(6) Overall, I'm just blown away and very gratified that the original 1966 artwork, packaging, typefaces, etc. were the basis for this release.

This might sound a bit stupid but regarding the poster, wonder if it will be packaged inside the box. How would it be it inserted without bending etc

Anyway I have to say it again, they got it perfect

I love the idea of the lenticular cover.  Even more cool would have been that pic of Brian from what would have been the inner sleeve.

I wonder if the quality of the picture on the back cover will be significantly improved?

Very interesting. The picture looks more real than it does fake, it's a little too detailed to be fake. I won't totally discount it being fake though, I hope its not, but hopefully we'll get a confirmation soon enough.

I like how with this nice little tidbit still the only thing people can manage to talk about is phil cohen, I'm sure the guy is just as happy as everyone else for this picture.  I feel like all the jergins in the world won't be enough for this thread sometimes, I swear.
