Is it me or is the song Happy Endings really good? I remember when I first heard the BB's version and kinda thought, "ehhh, sounds really 80s to me." But then I heard Terry Melcher's version that he sung for his mom Doris, and I thought "wow, this is really sweet and sentimental...I almost wanna cry tears for not being young anymore because of this song."

My records show that it entered the charts August 3, 1968 and reached #2 for a 19 week stay.

I did a bit more reading and Mike spoke in a recent interview that Do it Again reached #1 in the U.K. and Australia, yet since he's going off memory prone to self-inflation I understand it's not the most reliable source. That being said, as the hit stemmed from a period of commercial drought, you'd think that something that reached #1 in both hemispheres would be something Mike would remember.
I guess there's a possibility is that perhaps there were different hit tracking charts in '68 and it reach #1 in one of them and #2 in another, though it's probably more likely that it only reached #2 and crossed wires have caused this miscommunication.

I'm not sure that any of his contributions were on the final product. Apparently, Brian's inspired line was "His name is Bob/He has a job" (which actually, isn't the worst thing he could have written for that couplet!), and Bruce wasn't having any of that.

It seems to me that sometime between the release of 20/20 in 1969 and pictures I've seen from 1970, Carl seemed to sort of grow up a lot. He looked less boyish, and mainly he seemed to have lost some weight. Does anyone know whether this is true, or whether I'm just totally imagining things?
The beard had something to do with it, when he went from those long sideburns to the full rig, around when, late 1970 or so?

I've been listening to some of their backing tracks and it sort of struck me. Does "In the Back of my Mind" sort of seem like a precursor to the stuff on Pet Sounds?

Party version.
I remember asking this a long time ago...you'd think they'd take off the party vocals, it'd be a much better B-side

Bruce Johnston On Weakest Link

Well, tonight, after getting Xmas prepping out of the way, I was killing a little time looking at the IMDB credits of the guys...and was interested to find out that about 10 years ago Bruce was on that somewhat much-missed game show The Weakest Link. Did anybody see it? I have to admit that the notion of Anne Robinson fixing her baleful stare upon him and uttering the fateful words: "Bruce Johnston....you ARE the Weakest Link - goodbye" is a somewhat intriguing one.

does "Let's Put Our Hearts Together" sort of remind you of the stuff on Pet Sounds. It doesn't have all the background music that the stuff on Pet Sounds does, but the basic theme matches the album.

Are there other clips of Brian dancing around like he did on Night Time/Dick Clark?
Thankfully, nothing quite that appalling.

This week's Uncut magazine archive feature: Brian Wilson on the making of his greatest LPs.
Excellent quotes from Brian here. Truly incredible to hear some of his observations on "Love You":
Quote
All the cuts are different from each other. Some are rockers, some are ballads. 'Johnny Carson' came about when I was sitting at my piano and someone was talking about him. I told them I was gonna write a song about him and they didn’t believe me. I had the whole thing done in 20 minutes. I worked with Roger McGuinn on 'Ding Dang'. He wrote that line [sings], 'I love a girl/I love her so madly'. He was so easy to work with. I’d never worked with him before, but it was really something. 'I Wanna Pick You Up' was a really good cut, too. And 'Honkin’ Down The Highway' was a kind of a C&W idea. CBS didn’t promote that album very well. They just let it go and it didn’t sell at all.
Is a Love You tour around the corner?

As the interview dates from October 2006, we'll have to assume we've missed it!
