Are they drinking milk?
Either that, or liquid Mylanta.  Shocked

Great photo "metal flake paint."  I'd never seen it before.
Thankyou for all of your great pics too!

The footage may have been long destroyed  but at least we have this shot of the boys performing on David Frost, March 1, 1971, maybe?

Looks like Björn Ulvaeus subbed for Al that day.

AL, singing: Last dance with Mary Jane...Come on now, everybody! (points to Carl and Mike) Ladies and gentlemen, ZZ Top!

Grin Guess Murry was chaperoning ?

Very cool pix!  [I'm working on a database of every magazine the BB have been in, and I'm sorry to ask a million questions, but do you know the magazine and date of publication those photos are from?]  (I started the list for "fun," and now there are around 1,500 entries, and I'm still discovering more. You definitely have some rare ones!)  Thanks!

It was "tea", the stuff that caused the Rutles to go crazy!

BB without Brian is not The Beach Boys IMO  Grin

But it is a great shot, and Carl looks great as he always did in that era

That David Frost Show photo is not from March 1 1971...it is from the second appearance-maybe in May.  Keith Badman's book listed the two apps in the reverse order.  In his book he lists the Vegetables/Lady app (which is the photo is probably from) as Feb 25 1971 and the second-Cool, Cool Water/ Wouldn't It Be Nice app (which still exists) as May.   I determined that the dating was wrong-after reading the Crawdaddy interview from 1971-which was done at the Chelsea Hotel after the first Carnegie Hall show and on the Monday after the BBs played in Boston at a David Frost taping.  As the Boston show was Sunday Feb 28...the David Frost taping was Monday March 1 1971. The reporter witnessed the group performing "Cool, Cool Water"-thus revealing that Badman not only had a date error but also had placed the shows in incorrect order.  This was further confirmed by Jon Stebbins' David Marks book-which reveals that David M met the group in Boston and was invited to the taping.  As far as this 2nd app-all we have is the date of May 7 listed by Badman for a David Frost show-his other TV info doesn't inspire me with confidence...but the group was on the east coast at that time...can't recall if Al has a beard in the May Day footage (in American Band)-if he does then the 2nd app may have been taped earlier than May 7. By the way Badman lists the David Frosts as taped in Philly...but David Frost taped in NY.  I wrote to Frost Productions and was informed that they had no exact dating info on hand.  They believed that the two 1971 Frost apps were both destroyed.  I informed them that the March 1971 app is in collectors hands-they knew this...but have neither show in their vaults.  Their is a complete audio tape of the Lady/Vegetables app-including Dennis discussing the upcoming release of Two Lane Blacktop.
