Oh, oh... Here's some more information, according to CD Universe, and it's not good.

With 56 US Top 100 hits, 36 Top Ten hits and 4 Number One singles, The Beach Boys left an impression on the 1960's pop culture rivaled only by the band that considered them their top competition: The Beatles. This video contains 21 classic Beach Boys hits performed live in Phoenix, Arizona on the band's 50th anniversary worldwide tour. Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, David Marks and Bruce Johnston gathered in 2012 for an emotional reunion in Los Angeles to record their first album of new material in 20 years, to reflect on their remarkable history and to kick off a worldwide tour.

Just 21 songs. How disappointing.

It would be ludicrous if that were correct. The Doin` it Again DVD that was released should have only been a bonus feature so this would be another kick in the nuts.

Capital Records is going to have their own reunion concert release, correct? They're our only hope for a complete concert release.

Ouch... 21 songs hurts. Especially when, realistically, the sets were twice that length. We need full documentation on the tour and a full show in pro-shot quality.

I second that. I'd love to see the Royal Albert Hall show released in it's complete form. A 21 track dvd is lame. I won't even bother buying that.

If this is the case, disappointment is not a strong enough word!  21 songs is an insult to the fans and to the legacy of the music!  Thank God there are at least audience recordings of complete shows!

That's just ridiculous.  Especially since any fan, casual or hardcore or anywhere in between would rather have a full show than 21 songs.

LAME
SUPERLAME!

I guess they figured they would reduce production costs (more discs or whatever) and risks of not getting those DVD packages off the shelves.

But yeah, LAME - especially considering the momentous occasion of it all.  Tongue

I have hope that they will give us a great C50 tour video and that this one is not the main release.  Most artists release complete concerts these days (and have for a while now).  Since music sales have dwindled for many artists, they have to rely on the videos for more revenue and giving the fans a lot of material is part of that.  In the old days you'd get a videotape with an edited 60-90 minute show most of the time (if that).

Besides, this is way too soon to include the London shows if they were filmed.  Talk about a rush job editing the footage and mixing the audio (which probably will need lots more tweaking than we'd like to admit).  I think we all agree as long as all the songs played live on the entire tour are represented on a release, that will satisfy most fans (though some will want it all from one show).

I don't usually get all hooped up about the venue they played at when watching a concert either.  Most of the time it's too dark to notice the venue and it's not really a big deal.  I'll take a top performance over a special venue anyday.  Look at The Gorge in Washington state.  Great venue, with killer views... until the sun goes down!  Red Rocks at least above all else is well lit at night and is worth filming.  I just saw Peter Gabriel there a few weeks ago, amazing venue.  Can't wait to go back.

I was worried when I first saw it listed on Amazon for around $10.  It looks like their going for a cheap product that will sell to casual fans.  I really hope something changes with this release.  The fans deserve more than this!

I just wish we had a better sense of the product that will actually come out of all of this. We've heard about a half-dozen different things since the tour started, and we've seen one disappointing release already. This looks to be another, and we've already heard that Capitol plans a live album in the new year. Maybe that will be the ultimate, definitive version. I hope so.

One ray of hope in all this is several concerts including Red Rocks, RAH and others, had major video recording. Far more that was needed for the in-concert experience. This must be for a very good reason but what and when we can't be sure, but given the cost we can only assume it will see the light of day soon.

Yeah, the abbreviated setlist really sucks.  Maybe the Made In California box set holds hope...?

If the box set has anything with 2012 live stuff on it, I wouldn't be very happy. I think the goal of the box set should be to get the great previously unreleased material out there. There are so many chances to throw a DVD out there. However, I don't know how many more chances we would have to hear the 1974 "California Feelin'", "Where Is She", "(Wouldn't It Be Nice To) Live Again" or the 1975 "In The Back Of My Mind". Plus, I don't see how a live 2012 DVD would really fit in with the theme of the set. Maybe a DVD with live performances from over the years, but I highly doubt there is gonna be a DVD anyways.

Clip from the new DVD?

Nope, that clip is not the Phoenix show. That clip was from the Hollywood Bowl. Mike and Bruce look like they were both wearing the same clothes (both shows were on Saturday!), but Al was in a white suit in Phoenix. Two other dead giveaways: Nicky Wonder's in that clip, and he was gone from the tour by Phoenix, and Gary Griffin's guesting on accordion back there between Scott and Darian.

As surmised on these pages, there is definitely another DVD in the pipeline, currently still being edited.

More to follow as details emerge, but this info came directly from Mr. Bennett.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
