Nice mix.  Surprised to see no Surfer Girl or In My Roo, but Hawaii is on there?? The song doesn't do much for me at all.

It's surprising to me too but I'm glad for it because I like Hawaii much better than the other two.

As for getting the full RAH gig...I can only now see them releasing it if they were to tag the full concert on a bonus disc on the special edition DVD of this documentary feature.

This will do for now. Nice job. Thanks Tusrdu!

That made me SO happy tonight - thank you Tusrdu - fantastic show and recording. Who would have imagined we would ever get this kind of perfection, passion and energy from the combined forces?

Nice to see songs like "Marcella" on there. But I'm waiting for the big one with - hopefully - the complete RAH show

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Eh?

It's very clear that there is another project currently being worked on and as PS alludes to above, that one may have a limited theatrical run.  If that is true, how is this DVD the "big" one?

Maybe the question here could be how was the tour arranged? Look at it this way, Al made the comment before the first gig that they were available to all offers then the original 50 gigs kind of trickled out more or less as a North American leg then Europe, Asia, Australia then London followed. Could the North American leg be a seperate stand alone entity from the rest which may allow for more than one concert release? How do these things work?

From Al's facebook-page:

Not sure if this has been done yet but I am seeing if I can put a version of every one of the 61 (as played at the RAH) songs played on the 2012 tour on one link. All London except for 'Let Him Run Wild' from Sydney. How's this first attempt looking? Thanks to the youtube posters for the clips.

A little more reiteration and confirmation from my source close to Mark Bennett, the director of both the DVD concert and the forthcoming feature:

"I believe a full length feature film in the theaters might be in the offing.....I will confirm this weekend... Bennett and crew were at virtually every concert taping everything . Huge undertaking. Supposed to have a DVD first, and movie next year......"

So is this movie of the whole concert or is it a documentary?

Clearly NOT a complete, wall to wall single concert from every indication. The November release will have to do.

Educated guess:

Feature length documentary/historical portrait of the group, a blend of concert and audience footage from various venues on the tour, photo and archival film material (just think of all the material on the screen during the shows already), interviews with The Boys, Band, Fans (we know this for sure), and probably some backstage fly on the wall footage, touring and travel stuff, families, etc. You can easily picture it, no? The main issues for me are: Will they leave the songs intact, or will they cut away? Will they now focus on songs that we don't already have on the first release? Will they adhere to the order of the setlists? No doubt, it will look and sound great. I am thrilled about the seriousness with which they went about doing this, and if they have SMILE's John Anderson cutting it (which is what I was told), even better. A really committed team that knows their BB stuff.

Re: songs, well, clearly they were saving the very moving tribute to Denny and Carl for this one...They will probably move through the songs and then show the accompanying history, very much like the concerts were essentially already doing. A semi-chronological biography in song and pictures.

As soon as I get more solid info, I'll pass it on.

If there is going to be a movie then there should be a movie soundtrack, right? I'll be thrilled to have a complete show on CD. I don't care about post production. Just give us a complete show.

not if it's a "one off" show, meaning it will only be a one night event, which is probebly what it'll end up being...

Your right, I am not that crazy about the tracklist, but I would still watch and review it.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Nothing new, but just some further confirmation from friend in touch with Mark:

"This will be 21 songs from one full concert, shot in Phoenix. Full length movie to follow in 2013 with interviews encompassing the entire tour. Bennett hopes to have it distributed in the theatre, but that's still up in the air."

FYI, Marc Bennett's last documentary was on...menopause:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jn8Son9Tm2c

Hmm. Do I detect an auteurist thematic pattern here? The opening title card for the trailer quotes anonymous: "If you have a vagina or know someone who has a vagina, you need to see this movie". One can only hope they re-use that same pull quote for the BB50 doc trailer...

(Please, no zippy montages and pizzicato strings for the next one, fellas - I realize that this sample is typical "excitable trailer-speak," but I much prefer the style of Denny Tedesco's unreleased doc on The Wrecking Crew. Fan testimonials will get wearisome quickly. See McCartney, Paul.)
