This could be a fun and fascinating thread: Let's compile a list (with the music [via YouTube or whatever] too if possible) of songs about our favourite group or any of its constituent members. Whether it's lyrics and music or just one of 'em, bring it on. Now's your chance to bust out that song you really like written about Bruce or Al~ Bonus if your song is in a genre not generally associated with the kind which might have such a group as an obvious influence, has an interesting story behind it or an otherwise good quote! Here are two to start...

Tullycraft - "I Kept The Beach Boys" (Surf Beat Fun, 2002)

John Cale - "Mr. Wilson" (Slow Dazzle, 1975)

Okay friends, now it's your turn!

There's a Belle and Sebastian song that includes a lyric about loving Brian, Dennis, Carl and Al and even finding it my heart to love Mike Love. Can't remember the name but it's a nice moment from a good band.

If mere references do count, there's a track called "Surf Song" on the fabulous Smell the Mitten LP by The Hot Toddies where the big guy is referenced:

"Bonfire on the beach, whoa! / Pacifico and some mushroom tea, whoa! / Dude I must be tripping / Is that Brian Wilson up on the hill?"

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

It's one of the best Pet Sounds/SMiLE pastiches out there, but that song is about the human pancreas, not the Beach Boys.  Grin

Darn, bet me to it! My love of TFF and this song actually predated my obsession with the Beach Boys, so it was nice when the two things lined up.

One from Reg Dwight (with Carl & Bruce on Backing Vox ) 'since god invented girls' , and if I remember correctly there was a another track from said album with all the boys on but someone stole the masters during production.

Blazing Salads: "Life of Brian" (1993)

Blazing Salads were two iconic Oz rock legends, Glenn Shorrock (former lead singer of Little River Band) and Brian Cadd. Here's a link to the lyrics: http://www.lrb.net/html/lyrics/lifeofbrian.txt

Also can throw in Oz's Richard Clapton with his 1984 single, "Goodbye Barbara Ann".

I think Brian says in the interview at the end of the Roxy CD that it was his wife's idea...

It's always Melinda's idea.

Brian, why did you adopt 9 children and 14 dogs even though you could die at any moment within the next 15 years?

"Well, my wife thought it was a good idea."
