Why the motorcycles ? They don't have radios.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I thought this.

is this the cheesy stock footage collage they've been playing on the screens of their live shows? Hideous editing, nasty, ugly-looking footage that doesn't quite fit? Won't work for me either. Total amateur hour!

Private viewing only?? This can't be an official video -- or else it is, but hasn't actually been released yet.

I don't think the video has been officially approved yet.

It's pretty common to upload a private video to YouTube so everyone involved in the production can view it for approval prior to the video being made public. Possibly this one was uploaded as a public video by mistake.

When it appears again, we'll have to see if anything was changed  Grin

Hey, people reading this: change almost everything. Dump the Getty Images crap. Show a little TASTE! it might do as video wallpaper, but that just looks like a bad fan video assembled by a robot searching for keywords on a stock footage database. Bikini. radio. surf. check. The editing tempo is super lousy, too. Yech.

Go out to a beach and half-bury some old radios in the sand. Film some kids making huge sand castle radios. Hell, film Al Jardine waiting for a bus. ANYTHING!

I don't get how some people think this video is any lamer than 80% of any non-musical output of this band.

Yea, and show the band practicing in the garage and the kids outside hearing the music and them opening the garage door. Then show people nodding to each other with looks that say, 'pretty damn good, for geezers.' Then everybody starts partying and on and on. At this point it would be OK to have some product placement, to not only defer production costs, but to make some cash.

Digged that Love You was there, but I think basically it was made by some LA hipsters who dig the beach boys and submitted to Capitol much like the competition one for H&V. Capitol prob went 'ye this is good, shows young ppl interested, doesnt cost us anything as album is out already, why not?'

I still prefer the fan one, but where di it go?Huh I cant find it now  Embarrassed it had lots of clips from concerts back in the 70's and stuff

It's great: it eschews an "remember when" motif, yet it charts the same landscape that "kids" have been charting in LA for 50 years.  And our Boys are waiting with amps for these cruising hipsters, hugging and high-fiving!?

I love it. Our college students are just such a generation, and they responded enthusiastically when Mr. Boyd and Mr. Kalinich lectured to them on the BB and California culture and ethos. So I have thus seen with my own eyes a version, albeit academic, of exactly that which is here depicted  in the video: the endless spirit of youth seeking--and finding--all that we mean by "The Beach Boys," embracing both "summer days and summer nights," as the video displays.

I definitely like the idea: hipster/retro/new generation and all that (although I really don't get the bikers), but I totally agree that it would have been better if they had opened the garage and seen them playing instead of them just awkwardly standing there. I don't know - this might be the first thing that's come out of the reunion that I don't love actually. Oh well - who cares? The song is still fantastic. And Brian's face is hilarious. Oh, Brian....

That's because it's less your standard "hipster" and more of the younger side of the Laurel Canyon crowd. They basically worship the 60s, including the motorcycle aspect.

Just wanted to note that now having seen the "officially released" version of the video, that first shot of the Beach Boys in the garage looks like it's a different take than the one that appeared in the video prior to it being marked "private".

I'm surprised, with one sort-of exception, no one caught the theme of the video:  they're going through the successive decades from the early '60s 'til now, tying in the history of the band and the timelessness of the radio and culture changes in the interim.  The first part with the bikers is the late '50s-early '60s.  The "Love You" cover and the girl with the braided hair is supposed to be the '70s (which look so interchangeable to now I think that's why the rest of it didn't make much sense).  Shortly after that you get the '80s, with the Kokomo T-shirt and the girls with the Madonna look, then the '90s with the guy with the beard, etc.

I think they could have made it a bit more obvious, hence the confusion.  I only caught on when they got into the '80s.  But I like the concept.

Wow! I totally missed that! Nice catch, I appreciate the video a little more now.
