The new set marks the first original collection to include Brian Wilson since 1985's self-titled release -- and the first to be fully produced by him since 1977's Love You.

The Beach Boys will be the subject of an episode of the upcoming PBS music series Front Row Center. On June 7th, the band's 50th anniversary celebration will be featured in a new 90-minute special, called The Beach Boys: Summer's Gone "with a look back at their career featuring never-before-seen archival concert footage, plus songs from their new album." Among the other artists being featured this season on Front Row Center are Phil Collins; Cheap Trick; the Secret Sisters featuring T-Bone Burnett, Elvis Costello, and Jakob Dylan; Colbie Caillat; Moby; Train; and Richard Marx.

I don't know if this has anything new to say but regarding the VIP Package it was posted on facebook:

http://www.vipnation.com/programs/beach-boys/

I don't think there is any new info here, but does anyone know what these VIP events look like? Like, are people lined up and sent down a line to say 'hi' to everyone and snap a picture? Or is there a room where everyone is kind of just floating around?

I'm kinda disgusted by the US tour dates. There is way too many, these guys are 70 for f*ck sake

Huh? Both Brian and the Mike and Bruce band have played more dates in a year than are on this tour (and M&B do so regularly). There is clearly demand for shows -- people want to see them! That's why there are so many. That doesn't seem disgusting at all.

Quote
Not to mention big 18,000 seater shows are being added a month before the date, no way is that enough time to sell that many tickets..

I don't think those shows would be added unless they were pretty sure they could do so. If a tour is doing badly -- i.e., if there is not a demand for tickets -- you are not adding 18,000 seat venues.

Quote
Terribly planned tour, just terrible. And that just the US, we all know how badly they messed up the UK

What exactly is terribly planned about it? That they're selling out venues? That there is considerable public demand for tickets? That there is a public buzz about the band for the first time in decades? Seems like an expertly planned tour -- one with enough empty space in between dates that they had the flexibility to add shows if needed. And so they are.

I also don't see that they "messed up" the UK. They're simply not playing there. Given the holier-than-thou, privileged attitude of _some_ UK fans on this board and elsewhere, it couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of folks.

Quote
And not to mention not even promoting the announced Europe dates

As stated, not exactly their job. And it's still March, after all.

So because some British people apparently have shown a 'holier-than-thou, privileged attitude' every British fan deserves to miss out?? Deliberately provocative statement here by Wirestone, wonder why you said this, it reeks of a privileged and holier-than-thou attitude...

People are saying things like 'Well, we bought Sunflower and the yanks didn't' or 'Brian premiered SMiLE & TLOS here and not America because we love it more', but that's not the reason I'm annoyed or perplexed the UK hasn't got dates. It's just, y'know, Britain. A fairly big European country. Where lots of people tour a lot. That and the band (when they can), and Brian, seem to like touring here. I guess it's..... a case for Miss Marple.

I'm annoyed about the UKs inability to sort this out but not putting blame on anyone, it's just the borderline xenophobic 'getting what we deserve' statement that got my goat.

I think it's a terrible coincidence of circumstances that could have been avoided. Olympics, the Queen's jubilee, the BBs' 50th anniversary… all foreseeable

They've known since 2005 that the Olympics were coming, and they've known since since 1952 that it would be the Queen's 60th jubilee.

The Beach Boys knew back in 1961 that they'd be celebrating their 50th in 2012 and they should have taken measures back then to ensure the celebrations went smoothly.

Hang on… since 1961? 50th anniversary in 2012?

So what? Take a nice trip to central Europe. The Brits who cry the loudest they can't afford an enjoyable travel to the mainland are probably the ones who have 70 releases of PET SOUNDS in their collections, so I don't buy that.

You had me up until there, smiley face or no.

Travel is not an option for everybody as it costs MONEY. Some of us, unlike you, you condescending f*ckwit, have to worry about it. I have a landlord. I have to buy cheap food. I have a sh*tty job, a sh*tty degree, and like to buy records and drink on a Friday night to alleviate the immense tedium of life. Don't tell me going to Europe is so obviously the easy thing to do and I should suck it up. f*ck, I wasn't even sure whether I'd be able to see them if they DID come here.

Yeah, it sucks for everyone who's not going to see The Beach Boys. It's weird - Brian has played lots of dates round Europe in the last decade, so there is a precedent. Anyway, I hate it. I may voice my displeasure on a messageboard. As usual for everything wrong with my life, I'll blame the Tories. But I do not have a f*cking holier - than - thou attitude about it. I don't f*cking deserve to see Mike Love bust out 'Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen' or Brian's cigarette lighter joke. I just wanna see my favourite band reunite and I can't because of a arbitrary reason! Does being sad about that make me an whining prick? Does this post?  Grin

And everyone telling me to lighten up is seeing The Beach Boys, so that's f*ckING EASY FOR YOU TO SAY.

Man, I am f*cking angry today. I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.

Brian did so many important shows, premieres in the UK. Now once in 10 years it didn't work out. So what? Take a nice trip to central Europe. The Brits who cry the loudest they can't afford an enjoyable travel to the mainland are probably the ones who have 70 releases of PET SOUNDS in their collections, so I don't buy that.

Not everyone can afford to travel very far. Yes, Britain is not the only country to not have any shows this year - and were the language of the main message boards French or Japanese I'm sure you'd see a lot of French or Japanese people complaining - but it's hardly unreasonable for people to be disappointed that the band won't play the UK when they are playing sixty shows, give or take, in the US, which only has four times the population of the UK.

That doesn't excuse the entitled whining which some people have been doing, but your 'enjoyable trip to the mainland' thing simply won't work for most people. I'm doing that, because I happened to have a bit of a windfall at the end of last year and got to pay off my credit cards and generally sort my finances out in a way I never had before, but six months ago I couldn't even have considered it, and I earn more than the average. As it is, I'm going to be travelling on a budget airline and sleeping six-to-a-room in a youth hostel, and it will *still* be more money than I've ever spent to see any band ever. If my wife had wanted to come as well, it wouldn't have been possible to go at all.

You can afford to travel. I can afford to travel. But a lot of people can't. I know at least two 'big name fans' (people everyone on this board has heard of) who've said that they won't be going, not because they don't want to but because they can't afford it.

No-one is entitled to a Beach Boys show, obviously, but there *are* a lot of people who would dearly love to go to a show and can't, and while some of them whining about it in an entitled manner is somewhat annoying, dismissing them on the grounds that you can afford to travel and therefore so can anyone is much, much worse.

A decade ago I'd've travelled the world to follow this tour. I flew from the UK to CA to see Brian, I followed him around the UK on the Pet Sounds and first SMiLE tours… I spent a fucking fortune indulging myself.

Back then, I had a full-time job and no commitments.

Now I'm freelance, have a partner and two kids and have had to prioritise.  My girlfriend tells me I should bit the bullet and fly to one of the European gigs on a budget trip but I'm not about to blow money on something that benefits only me, when I've got a family to consider.

But please, Jaspy, read the posts: there's not an awful lot of genuine whining, rather plenty of laughing at the situation as a way of dealing with the disappointment.

Your condescending posts are the most regrettable here in fact.  If you can't laugh with us, then at least pay us the respect of not laughing at us.

In an attempt to get this back on topic...seeing Al last week at the Roxy really got me pretty excited about this tour.  He was really in good voice and it convinced me I couldn't just see one show.  I'll be in the third row at the Hollywood Bowl and in row 14 at the Red Rock in Las Vegas.  Anybody here ever been to that venue or heard anything about that venue?  Looks nice, I guess it is fairly new?

Figure you are asking about Red Rock? Not been there but a request if you are row 3 at the HB. Some fan pictures, if possible, from that close would be neat!

Maybe a thread during the tour other than the media section may be permitted by the mods.

UK has 62 million. US has 311 million. That's more than five times the population.
