Ack, what's with all the sub-audio range hum from the control room on the Sleep a Lot session? Someone should have filtered that out...

I think if they were to try and remove that frequency it might compromise the rest of the audio.

It would seem that this version of Vegatables is based in part on some sort of historical documentation because this sequence seems way too unconventional for Linett to have taken it upon himself and arbitrarily put together, and it seems to go entirely against the tactic of presenting things to Joe Idiot in a safe and tidy way, especially since they could have easily given people the familiarity of BWPS. Then again, i'm inclined to think, given Brian's methods then, that he would not have used both Do A Lot sections. In this version, it kind of serves as the chorus (amazing that at one point, the two singles he had planned for the album didn't have a chorus; i love him), which makes it even less likely that he would have used both versions. Who knows.

On a completely different note, considering--if what the person on the Hoffman board is saying is true--that they've flown in the Humble Harv Barnyard and IIGS vocals, which require time stretching, how likely do you think it is that Holidays will have the Plymouth Rock vocals from Worms flown in and manipulated?

I agree, I think there's definitely some historical reason for the sequencing - given the choice between using the BWPS sequence and making his own very "out there" fan mix, I would have to think that Mark would have chosen the former.  Hopefully all will be explained in the liner notes.
As far as "Holidays" vocals, I'd say that's a pretty likely bet, since presumably those would be the only vocals on there in any case.  A few vocals is better than nothing.

Okay...so thanks to having the right Firefox add-ons, I can tell you this:

- The two "Vegetables" tracks, while they sound impressive, are low-quality: they're MP3-encoded at 128kbps.
- The tagged title of that mix of "Vegetables" is "Vega-Tables [clean start]"

Now to see if I can poke around the source code and see if there are any other songs sitting there that are simply not linked. Smiley

really weird to hear the bop-bop-bop's in a totally different place than we're used to. the two "sleep a lot" choruses will also take some getting used to.

I'm dying to know if this is based on a vintage mix.

Just wanna point out that Mark and Alan worked on this project together, so we're not entirely sure who edited this one - either or both.

Holy sh*t, those tracks are awesome. The sonic details...parts never heard or buried under noise from crappy sources for years...unreal. Unbooted Smile, yeah baby.

During the first few seconds of the "Vega-Tables Fade", there is an interesting guitar picking that I don't remember ever hearing before.

Yes, I never heard that guitar part either! And there are several unusual vocals which sound new to me, or at least more present than ever before.

That session is fascinating too, just a glimpse but I could listen to that kind of thing for hours on end.

So much for the "Do A Lot With Toothbrushing Sound Effects" that was being hyped years ago...or is it? Cheesy

Assuming it ever existed, which I for one seriously doubt.

The mono mix of the fade contains a ukelele(?) part and a Brian vocal that were added during mixdown.  This mix was used for the GV Box version but because of the awkward crossfade used there it's easy to miss the ukelele at the beginning of the fade.  The full mix has shown up on SOT Vol. 17 and Secret Smile.

Fantastic mix BTW.  Manages to include a lot of the disparate sections without sounding like a "kitchen sink" mix.  I'm really curious about the mix used for CIFOTM, especially if it's acetate sourced.

That reel is probably buried in a closet next to all those Byrds tapes found in the Columbia dustbin... Grin

Interesting -- I had assumed that, while they were both co-producing the set, Mark was doing all the hands-on editing.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!
