I think tracks 8-12 on the second LP are exclusive to that, but keep in mind we haven't seen the contents of the box set itself as of yet.

Also, fires breaking out on November 1st would be...kind of awesome? But that would totally freak Brian out. But it should still happen.

Okay, here's the freaky thing. Hand to [whichever deity you worship, if any], I am telling you the truth. If I'm lying, then I promise I will go to a Mike'n'Bruce show and kiss Mike's bald head for good luck:

The day....THE DAY...in March that it leaked out that this Smile box was happening, about half the houses on the block where I used to live burned down. Honest to God.

The day of the press release: all that s**t in Japan happened.

A couple of days before we have our first actual evidence of the set existing (that is, a picture, a partial track list, and Amazon pre-order), there was an earthquake on the east coast.

And now that it's out, there's a hurricane about to hit the east coast.

That just about covers all four elements, no?

Well, I goofed.  I'm a newlywed, only 2 months into my marriage and thought it would be best to make sure with the wife before ordering.  When I returned home after our night out, the price jumps up to $146!!  I knew I should have ordered without seeking permission!  Oh well, I still ordered.  SMiLE is worth $146 to me.

What do you guys think the 60 unreleased photos will consist of? I'll start with a few,

1: Mike and VDP dropping acid together.
2: Al on his hands and knees grunting like a pig.
3: Brian holding up a mastertape with "Surf's Up Pt2" clearly written on it.
4: Mike doing the chickendance during a playback for "Barnyard".

Wow, the tracklist from the CD and LP sets are awesome, I can't wait to see what other tracks are on the boxset!

Not totally important but did anyone else notice that the 2CD set comes with a SMiLE button?

Too bad Greg Larson or the Coach wasn't around for this.

And I don't want to crow here, but it indeed looks like discs 1 and 2 are identical in the 2-disc and 5-disc sets, as I had predicted.

I seriously doubt the box CD2 will be the same as the 2CD set one: doesn't make any kind of sense.

The versions we know are half a side of vinyl.... hmm... haha

"Surf's Up 1967 (Solo Version)"

what could this be?!

Possibly the recording of that Leonard Bernstein special on CBS?

No (if my supposition is correct).

Mark Linett said back in March that the LP version of the "finished album" would cover three sides of vinyl.

Even though it was meant as a joke, a can of Redi-Wip(or however it's spelled), a fire hat, and the brian poster would make a seriously beautiful set.  Grin

9. Vega-Tables - Stereo Mix (Side Four)
10. Wind Chimes - Stereo Mix (Side Four)
11. Cabin Essence - Session Highlights and Stereo Backing Track (Side Four)
12. Surf's Up - Session Excerpt and Stereo Mix (Side Four)

I'm confused. Isn't disc 1 of the vinyl supposed to be the "completed" album? Why are Vega-Tables, Fire, and Wind Chimes on disc two of the vinyl?

Check the original March stuff - the first three sides of the vinyl are the 'complete' album (see also the 'side' listings).

Too bad Greg Larson or the Coach wasn't around for this.

Coach & Greg are not forgotten. Even in absentia, they're part of the story.

Speaking of those gone but not forgotten,Phil was watching this thread earlier today and was conspicuous with his silence. LOL LOL LOL LOL

Last I heard, he was banned.

"Surf's Up 1967 (Solo Version)"

what could this be?!

Possibly the recording of that Leonard Bernstein special on CBS?

No (if my supposition is correct).

Well then it will be interesting to hear another version of my favorite song of all time.

I think tracks 8-12 on the second LP are exclusive to that, but keep in mind we haven't seen the contents of the box set itself as of yet.

All of side four should be exclusive to the LP set:

Quote
8. [You're] Welcome - Stereo Mix (Side Four)
9. Vega-Tables - Stereo Mix (Side Four)
10. Wind Chimes - Stereo Mix (Side Four)
11. Cabin Essence - Session Highlights and Stereo Backing Track (Side Four)
12. Surf's Up - Session Excerpt and Stereo Mix (Side Four)

Also, from the description of the vinyl in the box set (via Amazon):

Quote
Gatefold 2 LPs: Features full tracklisting of proposed unfinished album + stereo mixes and session highlights (not available on CDs)

I was going nuts at work today thinking about this, and then I come home and see all the new developments, very exciting.
I'm not too happy about BWPS being used as the tracklist, it is what we expected all along, but I really was hoping they'd take a less conventional approach and do something new.
