Thank you all.  The way the live band shuffled the vocal parts over the years with the changing lineup, especially the falsetto, continues to be interesting to me.  And in this case, baffling...

Interesting.
Was Bobby Figueroa normally signing some falsettos during this touring era? I think Al sounds great in this show when he sings the falsettos.

Are the isos from that show floating around collectors circles? Would be very cool to hear.

Forgive me if this has been discussed or answered here, but who is signing the falsetto parts in the 1980 Knebworth show? I know Al does on some of the tracks, like Surfer Girl, but on some others, like I Get Around, I can clearly hear Al and Carl in the mix signing their normal parts. Looking at this video, it's clear to me that Bruce isn't doing it, (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GiekNHjkLTk) so who might it be?  The falsetto also sounds doubled to me, which I'm guessing was done as part of the sweetening in the studio.

Sweetening aside, I hadn't listened to this show in a long time and was blown away by it. I sure miss Carl.

Great points, DrBeachBoy...

15 years ago, I would've been speechless if you told me I'd get to see Brian perform again, let alone see him over 10 more times!

I also noticed no teleprompter (not sure how long he may have been performing sans teleprompter, if this is news at all or not)

Brian was using a teleprompter for the whole show.  Al forgetting the words to the first verse of Sloop might warrant Al getting in on the teleprompter action for future dates...

I believe I am in the minority in that I'd like to hear Brian delegate MORE leads out to the band members.  It's what he did with BB songs when he wrote them, and I see it as a natural extension of that.  I would've been disappointed @ Long Beach if Darlin' ft. Darian or Sailor ft. Scott had been dropped.

This is probably the closest we will ever get:
Help Me, Rhonda  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCTQT4QePU8
I Get Around  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGbh9oQ5b8w
From the Grammy Museum- Brian, Mike, Al, David unplugged and augmented vocally by Jeff and Scott.

thanks, have posted as DC310 on blueboard and as surfjohnb on BBB, though I haven't post there in years.

Ed also sang Al's part (or was at least an understudy/doubler) for the 1993 Box Set tour for "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring."  There is a rehearsal recording where Al says something like "here is Ed Carter's part" and then sings whole song with his harmony part way up in mix.  Sounded like a recording was made so he could listen and learn with the recording.

I like Jeff's falsetto, but I'd be curious to hear him singing Carl's or Al's parts in the stacks instead, given the current BBs have a wealth of good falsettos.  I think Jeff's full voice in the traditional Al range would really cut through a mix in the same way Al's does.  Here's a cool video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IH08wcE4Z60

Happy to be on this board.  Been a reader for a while.  I've posted on some other BB boards in the past, but this one seems to be one of the most active, so happy to be a part of it.
113  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Glen Campbell Live with Beach Boys? on: June 30, 2014, 11:06:17 AM
Do recordings of any live shows with Glen Campbell exist?  I've come across lots of live shows, but have yet to find a recording with Mr Campbell filling in...

The Al lead from Michigan State 1966 is a great example of how live Al could sing like Brian when he wanted to.  I've always admired his range and ability to change his voice to fit the part.
