Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Brian has passed away!!!!

I used to come here every day back in the 2000's. The Beach Boys, and Brian himself, mean't so much to me. I like other bands too but the Beach Boys and Brian Wilson's myth/legend really resonated with me.
The music always came first, which affected me on a profound level, but the genius of Brian who burned out, abandoning a masterpiece that could have changed everything, the rivalry with the Beatles, there is nothing else like it in popular music.
The rivalry between the Beach Boys and the Beatles was about who would change the course of music and the rivalry between the Rolling Stones and the Beatles always seemed more of a popularity contest.
I will always love Brian Wilson, what he represents, the tortured artist and innovator, and the music of the Beach Boys. Their music is so brilliant, original and unbeatable in a lot of ways.

I just got back from seeing it at the Arclight in Hollywood. I loved it. I really liked that it wasn't made for someone who doesn't know who Brian Wilson is. A typical bio pic would be non stop exposition explaining who Brian and the Beach Boys are and what they are doing. Very well done.
I especially liked the sound collages for the audio hallucinations. I wonder if that is in fact how Brian experiences the world.

Smile is largely instrumental due to the nature of the project being unfinished. True, but I've often wondered what would be the problem with presenting Smile '67 as something like: Our Prayer/Gee Heroes and Villains My Only Sunshine Cabin Essence Vegetables Wonderful Mrs. O'Leary's Cow Surf's Up Wind Chimes Good Vibrations You're Welcome Maybe throw in parts of "Cool, Cool Water" or "Diamond Head" or whatever if you're feeling crazy and need some water with your Smile. You could use a couple of the weird humor attempts as skits to fill out the running time, maybe placing them with some of the unused instrumentals. Add in the rest of the songs as bonuses. If you ask me, that's better than the trying to mimic BWPS, which took an everything and the kitchen sink approach that really highlights the unfinished quality of some of the other songs. I agree with you completely. That is an album Brian could have released in '67. I don't like the BWPS sequencing one bit.

Frankly, this one sounds a lot more like a Brian put-on story than a Brian memory-loss story.
The more I've thought about it, the more I'm starting to think you're right. He probably thought it was funny making all these big-name people introduce him to John. Maybe he wanted to see how many of them he could get to do it before they caught on. Mental illness or not, it certainly sounds like something Brian would do. I agree. If this actually happened, it sounds like a put on.

Most of the tapes that were leaked are backing tracks. Very few vocals, so I bet we get a ton of that.
I have this bad feeling that, as most of the vocals were done at Columbia, they may have gone the way of the "GV" vocal multitracks in the spring 1967 turn-out. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
