Would be extra cool if timing just happens to hit at right time and this becomes a big time thing and lots of people see this.
Typically Sunday is the most watched night in the US. This show will be following one of the most popular shows on TV, 60 Minutes. It should do quite well and it will get a lot of promotion during the NCAA basketball tournament. Except it's Easter Sunday

I’m loving it. It’s bit like the recent remix of Cahoots by The Band. It’s a completely different way of experiencing the song and for me it works incredibly well. It compliments the original mix.
I think it’s better than the mix on the original release, myself. I like it too. I would be interested in someone more knowledgeable in recording to talk about the toning down, almost eliminating what I think is a zither in the original recording. That is why I like this mix and always preferred the live version to the original one.

I joked upthread that if someone handed me a check for $11 million my response might be something other than initiating litigation against them. And I do feel sorry for Brian, as it's even if it's "just business," the man is ~80 years old and it's no fun be a defendant in litigation at any age, especially when the subpoenas to depositions start rolling in. Believe me.
At the same, I don't judge Marilyn. As I said, I don't live in their world. And, of course, at a very basic level, a deal is a deal. If she owns half of whatever Brian owns with respect to those 170 songs, then she gets half the net proceeds and would certainly be entitled to an accounting of how her distribution was calculated. The same would be true for any co-owner of any business. And, also, it's important to keep in mind that we're talking about generational wealth here. In this matter, Marilyn may not only be thinking of herself but also Carnie, Wendy and the half-dozen, I believe, grandchildren on that side.
That's a bit overly generous as Carnie, Wendy and the grandchildren are also Brian's. Is there some expectation he wouldn't provide for them but Marilyn would?

With this discussion of That's Why God Made the Radio's melody, I gotta say I always thought it was more indebted to Silhouettes by The Rays in the same way Don't Worry shows influence from Don't You Care by the Buckinghams or It's Just A Matter Of Time with In the Still of the Night.
Don't You Care was released in 1967 I believe and Don't Worry Baby in 1964. Not Don't Worry Baby, but Don't Worry from No Pier Pressure. 🤭 Whoops! I need to work on my reading comprehension.

"I don't know how much effort Brian put into trying to get the song to Sinatra. But even if he wouldn't, why not give it to Dean Martin? The Beach Boys had a very close connection to Dino. "
Dean Martin's recording career was on hold in 1976. He wasn't that interested. He'd cut his last Reprise LP, ONCE IN A WHILE, in 1974 and the label would not release it until October 1978, after Jimmy Bowen did some sweetening and "contemporized" the tracks. Dean would not record again until 1983, when he did a country album, THE NASHVILLE sessions, again helmed by Bowen.
Yes, that's true. But still, if he wanted that song to be recorded by someone from that era and style, he at least could've tried to get it to Dean. But then I am wondering anyway, why at least Brian and Carl never worked with Dino. They were basically extended family, in the 80s Carl became Dino's son-in-law (although at that time Dean obviously had quit his recording career), but yet you never hear anything about it. It just seems strange to me. BTW Sinatra should've tried "Make it good" imo. What other older generation singers could have done it maybe? Sammy Davis Jr? Andy Williams? Tony Bennett? I don't think any one of them would have touched it without a complete lyrical rewrite.

I was at the 11/24/1976 show at Madison Square Garden and I remember Brian not doing much, but wore a fancy robe.
I was st the 11/22/1976 show in Cincinnati and I would agree. He was involved during"Love Is A Woman" and "Airplane " as I recall but little else. I think he missed his cue for Sloop John B and Carl took the lead. When I saw them in the summer of 77 Brian played bass for a short set and seemed more involved. Then the next summer Brian played bass the entire show and was very much a part of the band. I remember he sang lead on Wouldn't It Be Nice and did a good job. I saw them again in March of 79 and Brian had retreated to the piano and hardly participated at all.

Blown away by Russell Thompkins Jr's take on Don't Worry Baby at tonight's show (clip shown on Brian's FB page)
It really was unbelievable. What was amazing was that he sang it like it was just so easy for him! Like it was nothing, like singing the alphabet or something, instead of singing an incredibly high falsetto. What I enjoyed almost as much was watching Matt Jardine while Russell Tompkins was singing; he was just sort of shaking his head like he couldn't believe it. And when the song was over and Al introduced Darian for the next song, Darian sort of muttered "you want me to follow that?" Very funny. After the show I was standing on the street after most people had wandered off and Tompkins walked past me with some other guy. I had the chance to say that he was fabulous. He just said thank you very much and then disappeared into the Streets of Philadelphia. Brian told Al to introduce Darian the other night. It’s so funny cause he tells Al to do it and says Darians name . I don’t think Brian could do a show without Al at this point. If you told me Al would would take Jeff’s place and become Brian’s right hand man in their 70s in 2000 I would have laughed at you I think you're right. At this point, I can't even imagine what a Brian concert would be like without Al. On Saturday, at one point during Friends, Al looked right at Brian as they sang the line "we've been friends now for so many years" in the last verse. When you stop to think that these two were in high school together some fifty years ago, it really is kind of amazing. Some 60 years ago.

Another Reunion might also cause Brian to get his act together - can't phone it in when you're no longer the only top dog
He did for many years starting in the 70's. I would argue it's a lot easier to phone it in as you say when you are not the top dog.

When Love retires there is an obvious person to take over the Beach Boys touring band: AL JARDINE!! And I would definitely pay to go see a band with Al, Jeff, Bruce, and whatever relatives of BB members are willing to go along - Carnie, Matt, etc. I'm sure Blondie would be amenable to doing what he has been doing for Brian. Mike has the license and doesn't get along with Al but if Mike was gone, what would prevent Al from getting the license?
Why would Mike retire and not Al? Being one year older?

Is the story about Denny kicking the you-know-what out of Manson true? From what I read, Manson showed Dennis a bullet and made some comment about Dennis' kids and Dennis proceeded to put a pretty good beating on him. Manson ended up sobbing on the floor.
I don't know but I hope so.

I think this show has kind of been "jumping the shark" in the last few years, but certainly cool to see the BB track. I'd argue Sheldon's "ear worm" melody stuck in his head actually didn't exactly match the lead melody of "Darlin'", but it was kind of a jaw-dropping moment for me to see in light of how obscure a reference it was.
They never explained where Sheldon had heard the song in the first place. They've never established he listens to or likes the BB's.
Although they didn't explain where Sheldon had heard the song, Sheldon said he was not a fan of the group because they had "beach" in their name.

Question about Jason Fine and the forthcoming I AM BRIAN WILSON biography. Brian recently mentioned that they 'had some guy writing it but he crapped out and now they have someone else helping him (Brian) write it', I'm paraphrasing. Is Jason Fine still the guy writing I AM BRIAN WILSON or do we not really know?
I presume since he continues to pen articles and interview BW that means "yes".
I was thinking the same thing. The article mentions them walking in the park in the winter time so perhaps this was written several months ago. But it also mentions the current tour being iminent.
