I believe you, DonnaK. While we obviously disagree on this topic, I absolutely believe you reported what you heard. While I'm not that familiar with David's interviews, I've been saying for years that Al says the loopiest things. I actually look forward to Al's interviews JUST to hear/read what contradictory things he will say. Right now, to Al Jardine the new solo artist, a Beach Boys' reunion is "uncool", until the telephone rings...

Thanks Sheriff. YOU are not the person I want to have p.o'd at me!!!! Just reporting the facts as I heard them!!! I don't want anyone p.o'd at me!

Well, yeah.  Maybe Carrie could answer for David?

I really don't have any idea what David said to Donna that left that impression...I know he discovered the Rock Star energy drink that day and was even more hyper than usual, so I can imagine that whatever it was, it was probably pretty funny.

Does he think its realistic that all the elements will align that need to for a reunion to logistically work out?  Not really.  But I would not say that he is "adamant it will never happen."  Johnnyhypothesis is right...he just wants to be out there playing, so of course he would want to participate IF anything happens.

Don't mean to stir anything up, but I told the truth as to what they said to me. Whether or not anyone was hyper that day didn't have any affect on my hearing!!!!!

Sheriff, I told you before, Al and David said NO to the reunion. What makes you think they will change their minds? What about Brian saying NEVER?Huh??  Let it go man....................

Thank YOU, Awsoman!!!!!

Sheriff, you are on die-hard optimist, I'll give you that!!!! Yeah, I can really see Mike coming to Al's recuse if he needed help...... You need to get off your drugs...you are obsessed with them in the BB world of the past. Cripes, almost everyone under 35 was on drugs at that time.
131  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why a reunion won't happen..... on: July 22, 2009, 07:25:19 PM
It's been a long time since Mike and Brian collaborated together with music or anything else for that matter. Brian's worked with Tony Asher on Pet Sounds, Van Dyke on Smile, Scott Bennett for TLOS, etc. When WAS the last time he and Mike did a song together?Huh

I think that Brian has passed the musical stage of the Beach Boys and gone further ahead muscially. I was listening to TLOS last night, and the horns, violins, flutes, etc. all the instruments that Brian uses in his band now, is so much more advanced than the Mike/Bruce band. I'm sorry to say that the Mike/Bruce band could just be another tribute band who keep touring the world like so many others. Even Al does new music for goodness sakes.

Surfergirl, this is not depressing, it's something that we "discuss" on a fairly regular basis. Someday, we'll all get to say "you were wrong about that, and I was right".  Only time will tell.
132  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why a reunion won't happen..... on: July 22, 2009, 12:52:24 PM
What if you had said ".......please do a reunion thing........" ? They'd have answered "it will probably happen, don't worry about that, etc".

I don't think so babe. I think they are honest enough to have said something like...."...you never know how things will play out, or we'll see....."  In talking to David, I feel he is an honest guy and wouldn't B.S. me about that. There's a quote somewhere about Brian saying no to the idea as well. I personally think it would be a fiasco and a mess. I don't want to watch a meltdown in progress of my favorite musicians and I think that would be the result. IF it did happen, where would they go from there?Huh I think things are just fine the way they are. Which poet said "You can never go home again"?
133  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why a reunion won't happen..... on: July 22, 2009, 12:47:24 PM

I personally think that Mike does the big talk on the reunion to look like the "nice guy" extending the olive branch and when it doesn't happen, he can fall back on "well the other guys didn't want to do it" excuse. In reality, Mike has always been the one to stir the pot with the lawsuits all along.

I could not disagree more. Of all the surviving Beach Boys, Mike is not only the one who would want it the most, I think it's actually a priority in his life/career right now. Sure, touring around the world with Bruce, his son, and some good guys is a great gig. But, doing a 50th Reunion is something new, something special, and above all, Brian would be included. That's what Mike wants most of all, to do ANYTHING with Brian....

Well, I guess Mike should have thought about THAT years ago before he started all the lawsuits.
134  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why a reunion won't happen..... on: July 22, 2009, 10:05:54 AM
I didn't mean to come off as snobby and am sorry you took it that way. I was getting autographs from David, Al, Matt, etc when I said".......please don't do a reunion thing........" when they both spoke out that it will never happen, don't worry about that, etc........ I was walking away from the booth and they were both still assuring me. They were emphatic about it. I wasn't about to go back up to them and say "Why?" I assume it is a personal choice and I'm not about to ask why. I have my own thoughts on it and am glad they feel that way.

I was talking with David and some other band members off and on all day from the soundcheck at 9 A.M.  on. I never wanted to corner any of them and start asking silly questions. In fact, all of them were staying at the same place as I and many other fans were. It was a short walk down the street from where the event was held. We'd run into them in the hall, elevator, etc. and all were very nice, down to earth people. They were "off the clock" and we had talk about the food in the restaurant, etc. but never reunion things.

I agree about the management thing posted above and Brian has been away from the Beach Boys group scenario for years now and that ship has sailed. I personally think that Mike does the big talk on the reunion to look like the "nice guy" extending the olive branch and when it doesn't happen, he can fall back on "well the other guys didn't want to do it" excuse. In reality, Mike has always been the one to stir the pot with the lawsuits all along.

I really don't think the "general public fans" give a rat's behind whether or not they have a reunion. I don't think that there is mucho bucks to be made on it either. I'd rather see Brian and HIS band play or Mike/Bruce or Al, but NOT together again. There's too much history there. I think a reunion would not be worth the trouble/heartache/lawsuit that would come out of it and you know there is nothing to gain by doing it.

Sometimes I think we over analyze things on these boards and the reunion thing is one of them. No matter how much we want/don't want it to happen, it's up to the actual people involved and I really think we should let sleeping dogs alone.
135  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Why a reunion won't happen..... on: July 21, 2009, 10:49:18 PM
They both said it will NEVER happen and were very adamant about it.

Did they say why it will "never" happen, in their opinion?

Do you actually have to ask why they feel that way?Huh Please.

As I mentioned before, after speaking with David Marks and Al about a reunion, they say it will never happen, and I totally agree with them. I truly wouldn't want it to happen either. That ship has sailed.................................
138  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dennis' hair... on: July 20, 2009, 08:23:30 PM
Yeah, I see what you're talking about.....I have no clue what the deal is with his hair there, but from what I've seen and everyone says, he never dyed his hair. I'm going with them.
139  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Mike in the Monitor on: July 19, 2009, 09:57:37 AM
After asking Al and David Marks about a reunion while talking with them at Mayfest, I am confident it will NEVER, EVER happen and that's fine by me.
140  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dennis' hair... on: July 19, 2009, 07:43:47 AM

Let's see if that worked. Of course it's going to be dark now, as it's a black and white photo!!! Well, I tried!!!!!

How about it Billy?Huh I was really taken in by her, but then again, I take in stray cats too, who are much more thankful and trusting.

This all happened at the same time Bluebird had gotten us wristbands for the South Bend show on 11/13/08. I had been contacted by her on 11/12 and she hit me up for money on 11/15. I mailed her the money that following week. What a fool I was!!!!
143  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Another one of Bluebird's victims....I've omitted the author to protect them! on: July 13, 2009, 07:41:29 PM
Just wanted to let you all know that I wasn't the only one who was a victim of the bird!!!! I omitted the sender's name as I don't want to embarrass them!!! Read on...........

gotten me tickets for my b'day in September to see Brian at the Keswick in PA on 11/22. I'm really excited! A few days later, I saw a post on the Blooey from Bluebird about that show. Now, her and I have been sending forwarded emails back and forth for years, but I'd never spoken to her or had any kind of personal contact with her before now. I emailed her about any pre-show meet ups for that night that she may know about, since, what the hell, right? She wrote back and said that she'd be there, would keep me posted about anything that was being planned and asked if I had ever met Brian. I told her I hadn't, and she asked me for my phone #, saying she'd like to discuss "something that would make me SMiLE."

I gave her my #  (1st mistake) and she called me at 9:30 on a Friday night and talked non-stop (and I mean she barely even took a breath or let me get a word in edgewise) until 2AM, telling me stories about her close personal relationship with Brian, Melinda, VDP, the band, the road crew and practically everyone ever associated with Brian and the Boys. Most of the things she said were so outrageous (she was sitting on Brian's lap and he was playing with her hair  (ew!) and asked "Blue, how can I make Smile better?" and how VDP followed her around a party for hours one night until she finally agreed to waltz with him and everyone stopped and watched them and gave them a standing ovation, how Brian asks her advice on when to release albums and where and when to tour) on & on - horror stories about her financial woes and how she's losing her house, her car, has no job, no money, her health is bad, her cat is sick, her family won't talk to her anymo re, she has no insurance, and no one to help her. She also offered and promised that she would get us backstage at the concert and introduce us to the band and everyone and make sure I was able to meet and "spend some quality time with Brian." Yeah, right.

I told her that would be great if it worked out, we'd see how it went that night, but that I wasn't going to get too excited about it (since I barely believed a word she said about anything else!) I finally got her off the phone and all was cool until the following week when she called again and left what she said was an urgent msg to call her back ASAP. I called her (stupid me) and she told me that Comcast was cutting off her cable, phone and internet, and if her cable and internet were cut she would lose everything since the only hope she had left was the money from the family heirlooms that she was being forced to sell on Ebay to make enough money to put gas in her car and pay her rent. Then she asked me for money.

I told her I was sorry for her troubles, but couldn't help her, (not that I wouldn't try to help anyone normal that ever asked me) The fact that this crazy, loser woman that I barely know and have never met in my life would ask me for money made me sick. The fact that she can follow Brian around the world and leave herself in such a situation shows me what a loser she must be. I'm not here to judge, but I wanted to let someone know the deal about her. The stories she tells are absolutely impossible to believe: She knew about 9/11 before anyone else, and donated $1500 to all the Red Cross offices (?) in her area, filling them in on what happened that day before anyone else knew. When I asked her (about most of her stories) how they could possibly be true, how she could possibly follow Brian around the world being how things were so very bad for her, she started double-talking and bullshitting her way through some lame explainations that made abs olutely no sense. (Remember the oversized check?? Mike would have gotten a huge kick out of all of this!) She told me that Brian promised her that he would take care of her if she ever needed anything, just to call him, and he gave her his personal unlisted phone #. Then she said that for some reason, Melinda is blocking her calls and now she compares Melinda to Landy (when at the start of our conversation Melinda was like a sister to her, but is now jealous of how much Brian likes her) since she knows Brian would take care of her and give her anything she needed if only Melinda would let him. I'm afraid she is completely insane, and, needless to say, I'd rather never meet Brian than meet him through someone like her.

She gave me a day-to-day account of her disasterous, short-lived marriage to John Moon (all his fault, of course) and says she wants to divorce him but has no money to have him served with international divorce papers - if she CAN get her divorce, she has $58,000 waiting for her from a death benefit that she never collected from her 1st husband that died in the 70's.  She got a call out of the blue letting her know this $ was waiting for her, (since the 70's!) but not until she's divorced which is why she needs money FOR a divorce. She told me stories about Brian telling her how much he HATES Sue & Stu, how he wishes he could have them blocked from ever attending any of his concerts ever again, and how she was friends with them until one day when she called them and Stu started yelling at her to never contact them again (and here I was thinking I'd never take Stu's side on anything!) all because they are so jealous of her close, i ntimate, personal relationship with Brian.

What crap. She is nothing but a loser scam artist - a very bad liar who tries to play on the sympathies of people who don't know any better with promises becoming her new best friend and meeting Brian. The only reason I'm even telling you all of this is because I don't know if you or any of the other Headz are in touch with her or not and didn't want to post it on any of the boards since she reads them all. Just in case, I wanted everyone to know that she's out there making promises and looking for $$ and to be aware and very wary in case she has any way of contacting you. She obviously needs help, just not the kind she thinks she needs. Please feel free to forward this to all the other Headz if you think they should know, just so no one else has to deal with her. I doubt I'll ever hear from her again now that I've turned her down and I seriously hope not, Brian or no Brian. I've noticed that she's posting on the Blooey again, so somehow she mu st have paid her Comcast bill without me. It's a miracle!! (Or maybe Brian paid it - haha!!)

If you happen to have the book The Beach Boys Pet Sounds by Kingsley Abbott, check out page 94. There is a photo of a British release cover of a 45 God Only Knows in which all 5 (except Brian) are on it. It shows Dennis' hair very dark, but I'm sure it's the lighting.

I tried to scan it and send it but the file was too large!!!

I must admit, I broke (literally) down and bought 2 tickets for the Milwaukee Wisc. show for Oct. It will have to be an overnighter for us, but he's not coming to Chicago this time. It cost me $192.00 including a 5.00 fee for parking. Mind you, these are $75 seats in the 15th row and aisle seats. For that much money, I would expect a wristband for a signature, but in my thought process, you never know if this will be his last tour.................................or mine!!!!!  My friend Pam loves his oldies so she decided to come along, which makes it more enjoyable all around. I'm hoping he does Imagination, but I'd rather hear the complete Pet Sounds again.

I think I am going to go to this one.  I'm less than two hours away, so the drive won't be bad.  I don't know if I'll buy the $75 seats, especially for a GH show.  I paid $100 each for third row center seats for the Smile show in Madison in 2004, and it was one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.  Like you said, though, Donna, this may be the last time he comes around these parts.  Maybe I'll buy the $50 seats, and use the saved dough for a nice dinner before the show.

I always have to go for the closer seats when I see Brian....don't know why, but I do. As I said before, he's not coming to Chicago this time around, so Milwaukee is a given. Maybe we'll all luck out and there will be emply seats closer and we can all "sneak" down and sit in them. I'm game!! Let me know if you are!!!  Thanks for the infor Jeff...I'm sure we'll have a great time...wish you were coming too! I got 15th row center aisle seats, which is pretty good.

Well, I think about this way, if it's having people hear Beach Boys that normally wouldn't because of this music, then it served it's purpose regardless.

Ditto, babe!

Not goofy, but back in the stone age, when I was in 7th grade and the BB first came out, I bought the 45 Surfin'. God, there were/are great!!! Do you guys know what 45's are?Huh? LOL LOL

Then, in 1966, when Pet Sounds first came out, I was in love with Roger, who used to sing Wouldn't it Be Nice to me........

Then....well, nevermind................................................
