Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Songs That Could’ve Fit On Pet Sounds

I have to agree with CD; easy call for me. My immediate thought was also "Please Let Me Wonder." Funny, but being that it was borne of the time, I'd have expected more votes for "Good Vibrations." That's cool, though. I've never been one to think of GV as a very 'Pet Sounds-y' piece. If I had to put GV along with any album, it feels to me that it would've been more at home with whatever majesty my mind thinks that a completed Smile would've ended up as. As it played out, though, 'Vibes' stands alone as a perfect single release. And PLMW gets my vote, here.

The clockwork cycle the release of a previously unheard track goes in the Beach Boys world of fandom:
1. Gush over a song that will be released soon because it already has a mythical, legendary status. 2. Exclaim how "I can't wait!!!" a few days before release. 3. Stampede to be the first to get a copy. 4. Lament the fact that you are one of the ones who can't get it and promise to be the best friend of whoever uploads it for you. 5. Finally get a copy and almost orgasm prior to even play the song. 6. Bag the merda out of the song because it doesn't live up to the hype you yourself created - strangely enough you also forget how you have been demanding this released for the last 10 years. 7. Repeat cycle for the next previously unheard song release.
More precise than an atomic clock.
Eh, I don't know. I'm a citizen of the world of Beach Boys fandom, and I never bagged on, say, "(Wouldn't it be Nice to) Live Again." (Or in other, non-BB instances, something like Nirvana's "You Know You're Right" or the Threetles' take on "Free as a Bird"/"Real Love." I was agog over the thought of hearing them. And in their own way, each lived up to (or exceeded) my expectations. Speaking for myself, I always thought the instrumental and Hawkins versions were beautiful (and what I'd give for a Dennis sung version!). But I can't say that was ever pining to hear the "Queen version." It just didn't sound like an ideal match of artists to me. That said I was certainly curious. And why wouldn't I be? It's an unheard version of a number I quite enjoy, written by an artist I really, really like. I simply didn't care for what the new version added to (and subtracted from) the previous work.

I could read it and I'm not a subscriber. But maybe it was one of the few free articles you have each month when I did read it. There are no big revelations. In fact it sounds more like a not very detailed school report.
Yeah, but still... I was able to read the piece and it was nice. Thanks, Rock'.

SOL.....UGH! Complete embarrassment. Could possibly be the worst tune they ever recorded, certainly one of the most embarrassing.
Absolutely! All you ever needed to know about myKe luHv in one miserably, perverted song. Further studies would conclude with the viewing of his "Lifestyles" video showing him rubbing mineral oil all over his body. "Have mercy!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdYbymafUd0Jesus Christ, that video. It's terrible. Embarrassing. Uncomfortable... I love it!

I don't know but something tells me it would go like this:
Paul: I heard it, yeah. That's the thing, really, is that George was a beautiful guy and inspired others.
Ringo: I haven't heard it. (after being informed he heard it yesterday) Oh was that the one? Yeah, well, it was great.
Coming from a diehard Beatlefan such as myself? All I can say is: "Yup. This. So much this." Very well played, CSM. Congratulations, you win the thread! I'm pretty sure most everybody in the "Beatles world" would react to Mike trying to attach himself to George with the same reaction that many fans here have, which is something along the lines of "Huh? How much did George Harrison ever even think about Mike Love let alone utter his name in public?"
Well, yeah. Probably this, too.

TWGMTR. Those suite numbers. That, and has already been mentioned, the additional BB voices. But damn, that suite... Incidentally, what do you folks think: Any chance in hell we ever see the entirety of the suite completed and released? Even if -- barring the use of any potential vocal passes left over from the TWGMTR sessions -- Mike and Bruce may never appear on the remainder of the set? Maybe Brian, Al, Blondie and/or David finish up the tracks and put them out as part of a BW solo record? Wait -- was it ever confirmed that NPP had some elements of the Life Suite? Bah! I'm losing it. Anyway, as lovely as TLOS is, I'm going with TWGMTR.

Sssssshhhh........The audience aren't supposed to know that!
From the looks of things, I'm guessing most of them didn't. Anywho, it was a fun night. It was, of course, never going to be the same as it was in 2012 (and it didn't even feel quite as special to me as seeing BW at the same gig last year). But the crowd was grooving, Mike was jovial, the band was tight and (as pointed out in the review linked above) once the musicians hit their stride, the tunes were delivered pretty darned well. You can't take that away from them. It was my wife's first time seeing the group perform live in any iteration, and -- though she's hip to what is missing without the addition of (at the very least) Brian -- she seemed to really enjoy it. My six year-old daughter spent the majority of the show up on my shoulders, and she sang her little heart out during "California Girls," "...Rhonda," GV and... yup, "Kokomo." So yeah, a splendid time for all. Even if (at least for this fan) the fun, fun, fun I was having was still inseparably intertwined with thoughts of what might have been. *sighs* "C'est la guerre."

I'll be there!
Last year I enjoyed Brian and Co. with my daughter and mum at the State Fair. This year, my wife will be accompanying the little one and I. Other than experiencing the mind blowing C50 tour in 2012 (Darien Lake), this will be my first time seeing Mike/Bruce onstage since, oh... 2004? Looking forward to it!

Those are good shots. I am still kicking myself for NOT ignoring the "no photography" signs at EMP in Seattle when they had the great exhibit of NW rock 'n' roll. They had some really great stuff in there from the Ventures, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Buck Owens, Ray Charles, the Kingsmen, etc.
Hey, thanks! And I would have liked to have experienced that EMP exhibit myself. Photos, or no, it sounds like it would have really been something.

Apologies for straying a little off-topic, but my wife and I visited the Hall for the first time yesterday, and I thought these might be of some interest: A couple of Carl's guitars: One of Denny's kits: One of Mike's stage outfits (with a hint of Carl's jumpsuit): The quality may not be great, but truth be told, I was lucky to even get these. They disallow the use of flash photography and the area housing these particular artifacts was lit appreciably darker than other wings. That, and these were the final snaps I was able to take during my visit before my camera's battery ran out!

In my previous post, I was only saying that if one had significant doubts about a variety of Brian signatures of recent years, I wouldn't expect them to pursue something even like the PBS signed Blu-ray, or at least try assume it was going to be legit.
Understood.

This would include the PBS packages, any third parties selling autographs (e.g. Premiere), and so on. I don't mean to derail, but I recall folks here generally asserting that BW's signature for the PBS package seemed to look legit. I never specifically solicited an opinion on mine (I'd like to think it's the real-deal), but here it is for reference, anyway:
