I don't know if this was already mentioned but here's what Steve Hoffman had to say about the discovery of this footage: Ron Furmanek found this original 16mm footage last year, turned Alan Boyd onto it, and Brother purchased it from the owner! It was found in the trash at the curb a few years ago in the SF valley. Two rolls of 16mm on rusted reels stored in even more rusted film cans. Goes to show that stuff is still hiding everywhere. http://www.stevehoffman.tv/forums/showthread.php?p=7855613#post7855613 That's true. And Glyn Johns recently found Desper's lost 1968 stereo mix of "Do It Again". The tape was still lying there on the parking lot where it fell from the car roof, you probably know the story. Was a bit dirty, but talented audio-people knew how to restore it and it'll be released on the next-next remaster-reissue of "Friends" in 2015. Stay tuned. See ya then.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: SMiLE and what would have happened

After the success of "Good Vibrations", the genius-press after 'Pet Sounds', Derek Taylor and the promotion Capitol already did for SMiLE, I think it could have been a good selling album in early 1967. After 'Pet Sounds' the BB were already the uncrowned kings of the 1966 pop music landscape and influenced other revolutionary bands significantly. SMiLE in early 1967 would have been the coronation.

This is amazing! And as mentioned, obviously more profesionally filmed with the film-lights standing around than we thought. Done by Capitol like the Pet Sounds promo? These films contain exactly what I hoped to see, mindblowing to me. Now we've seen snippets here and there, and to see it cut together like this is just, again, so amazing, hope to see the whole thing together sometime.

I like Brian with his long hair.
I think his hair was the secret to his success, honestly. It wouldn't be too hard to believe that he could do a valid follow-up to Smile if he just got his Pet Sounds hair back. He looks like the young Homer Simpson here.

Hey Slim Shady, where's the photo of Brian you have for your avatar from? Cool pic, don't think I've seen it before.
New to me too Great pic from a great era. Makes me long for a special Super Deluxe Edition of "Sunflower"+"Surf's Up" with all the great songs from that period. "I Just Got My Pay", "Games 2 Can Play", "Good Time", "Our Sweet Love" (Brian BV mix), "California Slide" (Dennis), "Back Home" etc. All those had a special vibe I like. (to post something on topic, sort of)

Nice little album. The party ambiance gives it an uplifting feeling, although it would be an idea to re-release it without the party, like "Devoted to You" on 'Hawthorne, CA' - beautiful, love that one. I also like all the outtakes, some more than the released songs, and there are many, as you probably know. You hear the Beach Boys - pure and live - harmonising and having fun together. Good that this album was done.

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Which is the best sounding MONO Pet Sounds?

Oh, I just found out that I have to follow Bubba Ho-Tep's picture-links for ebay offers. But the prices... a bit too high for me for an album I already own a couple of times. And of course, people hear different, the story with different tastes, I'm already a bit confused where to start. I read before that the Hoffmann CD is widely liked, I guess that could be another candidate for the CD collection. But I guess, since I already own 3 CD versions (I know that's not much compared to other fan-collections), I think I'll go with a LP this time. I'll see...

Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Which is the best sounding MONO Pet Sounds?

Hi there, Was listening to PET SOUNDS for the first time in a while yesterday and I don't know why I took so long to do this again. Still my all-time favorite album. I listened to the 2003 DVD-A. Question: When that DVD came out, word was that this is the real deal, the newest and best-sounding remaster. I talk Mono. What are your expert opinions? Which Mono is the best? Will the new Japan remaster be better? And regarding that DVD, why is it lacking "Hang On To Your Ego" + "Trombone Dixie"? Big complaint here. "Summer Means New Love" in Stereo is nice, I guess they wanted to present this new stereo present, but musicially, it's not quite as deep as the PET SOUNDS stuff and sounds out of place. "The Little Girl I Once Knew" would have been nice instead as well. Anyway, which Mono is the question... (LP's included).

"Think About The Days" - absolutely beautiful (did I hear some of the melody before? Can't remember the song and why, but the fairytale EP comes to mind). "Spring Vacation", better than expected after knowing some of the lyrics. A 2000's production like you would hear it on the radio, like it better than TWGMTR. What's the name of the guitar song? Sweet vocal by Mike.

I'll open my heart for you and offer my honest first impression of the 15 BIG ONES/LOVE YOU-twofer (yes, the 2-fers introduced me to the BB catalog):
I thought, that must have been the absolute low point for this group. How could they release something as terrible as this? And was I surprised to find out that LY is one of many fan's favorite BB albums? Yes, I was. I'm even surprised today. Ok, there are a couple of tracks I learned to like, some even to love, but all in all, production-wise and performance-wise, only hardcore fans can love albums like that IMO. I know that I'll probably lose all of my BB facebook-friends now.
