So you believe Carl sings "I'd Love Just Once To See You" and the Wild Honey "Surf's Up"?

I see.

Yawn.
No, Brian sings lead on ILJOTSY and the few seconds of SU sound like Carl to me.

You, sir, are an idiot, and a deaf one at that. You're saying that having discovered and listened to all five takes, Mark & Alan looked at each other and said "let's f*ck with some people's minds and say it's Carl". When you hear the full track, you'll realise just how wrong you are.

And people wonder why I sometimes get a little cranky...  Angry
Thanks for the compliment, I just burnt your book.

It's Obvious You Never Read It, Or You'd Never Doubt AGD EVER.

Good point, I never did and never will.
I can't remember the song, but during discussion on this very board (as generally known not a good place for tolerant exchange anyway) I was even the one who corrected an error in that book when AGD swore to death it was Carl but instead Brian obviously sang lead. Was it "I’d Love Just Once to See You"? Can't remember.
Anyway, a day later it still sounds like Carl doing Brian or better Carl sounding like Carl to me. Can't wait to hear the complete song.

1999 watching 'The Beach Boys & der Satan' on TV with all the SMiLE footage from 'An American Band' ("Fire", "Bicycle Rider", "Surf's Up"). Was impressed that they even did promo films for never released music.

Dear sir, I nearly spurted my coffee over the keyboard from laughing.
Thanks for the compliment, I just burnt your book.
Of course I know all that , because I'm an intelligent human being.
But listening to these few seconds, it really sounds like Carl at times.
And my dog agrees.
I know, when the vault-rats state it's Brian, then they know what they are saying.
Just wanted to put a bit of pepper in the soup.

The piano could be Bruce. It sounds like someone who can play trying to sound like someone who can't. (the chord inversions and harmonics are too accurate for a self taught musician)

OMG, now it gets complicated! Grin

Yes, Carl sounds almost like Brian here at times.  Cheesy
Well ok, have to listen to the complete song.
But we agree it's not Bruce!

Oh, then I better shut up.
Now that I read your reactions I listened again and yes, it has to be Brian. Fantastic!

Erm... sure sounds like Brian to me.

I bet that's Carl.
Doesn't sound like Brian at all to me. And the very high notes sound exactly like on the 1971 version.
But I only heard that small snippet until now of course, perhaps the whole thing will change my impression. The whole tone of the voice, the count-in, everything sounds like Carl to me.

That little snippet of "Surf's Up '67" - I'm speechless.  So beautiful I can't even believe it.

It certainly is, and it's certainly not Brian who sings it.

The Macca Vega-Tables session

Date & Where: night before a big tour according to Al Jardine / 2nd session that day with Al Jardine according to Brian Wilson
(Version Al) Night before a big tour would be April 12, 1967 / the night-session (2nd that day) took place at Sound recorders
(Version Brian) Also April 12, 1967, because only day with two "Vega-Tables" vocal sessions.
(Version Beatles researchers): April 10, 1967

People present: (Verison Brian) Marilyn Wilson, Hal Blaine, Derek Taylor, Al Jardine, Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson
Source: Brian remembers that studio was decorated with Vegetables, he played pool with Hal Blaine using celery stalks for cues, tomatoes and radishes as balls, McCartney raised an eyebrow over that.
Plausible? I doubt.
(2nd possibility) Marilyn Wilson, Mal Evans, Al Jardine, Paul McCarntey, Brian Wilson

What happened: (Story Al) Paul in the control room, talking to Brian, Al had to wait long times between takes, Paul would come on the talkback and say 'Good Take', Brain blown away, couldn't continue the session
(Story Paul) he chewed vegetables

Conclusion: Paul was there in the control room for five minutes, Session aborted, nothing recorded

Remember that film was shot of a GV instrumental session too...it's heard playing out on SOT 15, for those interested. "Bob" and his camera are making too much noise in the studio - the whirring camera is audible - and Brian several times tells "Bob" to stop filming.

Piece this together: The "photos" of Brian with Tommy Morgan and Jay Migliori looks like a film print to these eyes too. Morgan and Migliori - practically any of the Wrecking Crew - would have no need to be at a vocal session.

So is this still a shot from the camera of "Bob" which we hear on that session?

Damn, I'm almost in shock if it is. That has been on the list of Holy Grail material for how long? If it is...

And another bit of mythbusting: Brian is filmed working the mixing board at Columbia. This was apparently a big no-no, even Bruce himself confirmed as much to AGD personally a few weeks ago at a show. Yet there is Brian, with Bruce in the background, working the controls on Columbia's board, a move against union rules which got his hand slapped away according to legend.

Has another myth been busted thanks to that film? Grin

The pics with the mixing console, Beach Boys and the guests look more like movie-stills to me than the Morgan/Jay Migliori-shot. And Brian is wearing the same shirt as on the famous darkroom/piano-bit from 'An American Band'. Perhaps an unreleased bit from that Denny-movie reel?
