Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Unreleased Brian songs shared on Instagram as a tribute

Confirmation from Todd Sucherman today on Facebook, regarding a new Brian album:
An unfinished Brian Wilson song: In October 2023 I was hired by producer Joe Thomas to record a couple songs for Brian Wilson. Joe told me the plan was for this to be his final record, and this song “Never Land” was to be the final song ending the record. Shortly after this Melinda Wilson passed away, then Joe passed away, and then Brian. I can’t share the music but I can share my ten parts I recorded for the end section into a “long goodbye” fade out. I imagined Brian soaring over the ocean and disappearing into “Neverland” which is what I tried to convey with my parts. I hope you can feel it, and my heart was so deep into this. I wish this could have been finished, but alas…

I mean...no.
We saw them several years ago and all of the performances were synched to video screens, and Mike was doing the hard sell on his new solo album. I was just kind of angry for most of the show, and it didn't help that the old boomer lady behind me tugged on my shirt tail and told me to sit when literally everyone else around her was standing for the fast songs.
I can't pay $200/ticket if I'm going to hate the fact that I even went.

On Glen Campbell's final tour, he performed a few songs from Ghost on the Canvas. I'm sure he relied on the teleprompters for those songs.
Yes. It's also worth noting that he learned and recorded those songs during the early stages of Alzheimer's. So he was still capable of assimilating new musical material and retaining it during that stage of his illness. "I'm Not Gonna Miss You" was recorded after he was done touring and was of necessity simpler material, but he was still able to at least briefly retain the words and musical phrases and turn in a good performance.

I believe this was the track they were recording after Brian's final tour concluded. Which would explain Brian's rather fragile vocals. Apparently Darian is handling all or most of the vocal harmonies. Overall a pretty good track despite Brian's weakened condition.
I hear Brian pretty clearly in the harmonies, especially at the beginning and the end. He has what sounds like about two parts in the baritone register. The falsetto sounds like Matt to me, but I'm not sure.

Very respectfully, he responded that he didn't feel the track honored the legacy and that I should do something else with my talent (paraphrasing). He was very kind and I want to stress that I don't feel anything negative towards his response.
Never should've asked him. *This* is the thanks integrity gets you!

To me, the AI vocals sound much more convincing than AI photos.
Imagine the possibilities. Using Brian's current voice to do a lead vocal for What a Fool Believes, and then slipping it into his jukebox...
Actually, I'd like to hear that.

This is all so freaking fantastic. As Brian seems to be pretty much done recording, these sort of projects will fulfill a real need. Keep it coming, please!
I wonder if it would be possible to, for example, take multitracks of vocals from a Beatles song, including backing vocals, and replace every single track with an AI Beach Boy equivalent (using the recorded tracks as guide vocals, rather than re-recording one's own). Here, There, and Everywhere?
(Well, heck, this would be the best way to replace vocal tracks on BWPS.)

Al chimes in, FWIW: https://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/2022/12/al-jardines-still-having-fun-fun-fun-with-beach-boys-brian-wilson-and-on-his-own.html?fbclid=IwAR2W9qG61R5bN4WkaEYYYJbBphDDYigFqpBpZlhzbCHgDGnP3EDUNWSWVrAQ: Brian canceled the balance of his 2022 dates during the summer. Do you think we’ll see him back on the road ever? A: I’ve got a feeling, yes. I believe there are some offers for next summer coming. I’m just speculating -- a final tour this year, maybe. Why even say that, though? As long as we’re healthy...Brian doesn’t give you much as an entertainer, because he’s really introverted and he’s a really a studio genius, a songwriting genius, arranger. He does love to be out there, though, and when he’s on, man, watch out.

Any word, rumours or innuendo as to what they are working on.
Has Brian done much or any writing lately? To get photos like this suggests an album to me, but maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Maybe it's a Strings & Horns sequel to At My Piano . .
Equally, it could just be a one off track for someone else's project, a tribute album or the like.
True, but the slightly–hyperbolic wording of the post (“new hit record”) suggest something more than Brian and Matt recording barely–audible backing vocals for another artist.

I’m not FB friends with Darian, but I can see posts from a few days ago on his feed, but nothing about this. Did he post them to a different page? Is it possible to post the photos here?
They were posted by Tomorrow Lab studios. Darian was only tagged in them. They are public, so I see no reason why they can't be shared. Thank you. TommorowLabs and Tommorowland pull up *very* different results. Brian seems to have some kind of bandage around his right wrist.
