101  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Did Landy ever realize he did anything wrong? on: March 10, 2015, 11:15:05 AM
A lot of good points raised in this thread, but the one of the things that makes me think everything was carefully, consciously planned by Landy was Brian's will - modified so Landy would get pretty much everything. That's not something you improvise. That's something you really have to think about.

It also implies that Landy was considering outliving Brian.

Ummmm, Can I have your chair?

It's creepy to me cuz the guy next to Brian looks a lot like 1979/1980 Brian. Which is kinda crazy.

BRIAN: Uh, Eden, you said you were bringing Little Richard.  NOT cool, man.

EDEN: Just keep this on you until you meet a chick named Marcella...hur hur hur hur

*boop*

BRIAN: AARGH!! Sh*t, man, keep that thing away from me!!! Oh jeez, there's a damp spot where you touched me. What the hell?!

CHUK BRITZ (on talkback): Brian, you said you wanted a horse. The studio door is kinda small, so I thought it would be easier if everybody just brings a piece, and we put it together....we'll overdub some vibraphones and double bass...

BRIAN: I'm going home and going to bed for 5 years. RIGHT. NOW.

Wonder if Brian's a urinal guy or a stall guy.

I sourced that Bellagio 10452 page yesterday, checking to see if you had Brian credited for both tracks on Ryuichi Sakamoto's Beauty album.  You did.  Some people say they can't pick out his vocals on "We Love You" - I think he's buried deep in the vocal mix, but there.  It was an interesting project for him to be doing in 1989.

Wasn't his contribution to that track a big, honkin' loud wall of Brians? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=32eOECAT5E0

Starts around 1:56.

Do you like the song and wish it was longer?
I made a quick edit with double verses before each chorus.  Enjoy!

Nice, but I think there's a beat missing before the first chorus.
108  Smiley Smile Stuff / BRIAN WILSON Q & A / Surf's Up 2nd section on: January 26, 2015, 10:29:48 AM
Brian, did you ever plan additional instrumental parts for the second section, besides just piano and lead vocal? Would it have been much different from the version we know?

Please consider finishing and releasing the "Life Suite"!

Great guy, that Ray Lawlor, violating Brian's doctor/patient confidentiality issues and his privacy. Oh, but he's a well-paid aviation executive with enough time and money to go around chasing after his so-called friend. The friend who no longer apparently speaks to either David Leaf or Van Dyke Parks, for whatever reasons (wonder what happened to those relationships of Brian's). Every time Ray comes on to a thread, a chill comes over and everyone starts talking about beer. Whatever. I guess I have an agenda. He reminds me of Frank Lima, a sycophant of Ray Davies who follows Ray around on various tours and has lunch and dinner with him. Frank also participates in Kinks message boards, but at least he's nice to fans and doesn't try to be high-handed and try to set the record straight. As if he'd know, because he doesn't.

I'm waiting for Mike Love to send me a check. Because every time someone says something vaguely critical of Team Wilson or his friends (who for all anyone knows may have been sent here by Melinda, in exchange for continued access to Brian, or they did it on their own with that thinking in mind), people are accused of being closepersonafriends of Mike Love. Flame away.
And that, my friends, is the very last post you will EVER see of this asshat. I don't care if somebody spams my PM box begging for his/her/it to be reinstated. It will NEVER happen. KittyKat is now at the bottom of the litter box and will never return.

Edit-

In case anyone asks, KittyKat's banning has nothing to do with being critical of Brian*; he/she/it has been asking for it for well over a year now (literally...I've never had anybody *dare* me to ban them before). It's one thing to have an opinion. It's another to actively try to start sh*t, like this feral freak has done pretty much since registration. This was more along the lines of a 'last straw' type of deal.

*-Oddly enough, I've had a a couple of people accuse me of being Brian-biased AND biased towards Mike. Guess it depends on the season and alignment of planets LOL

Now can we have Ghost back, please?

Dennis is now represented by "Do You Wanna Dance", which sounded like a single lead vocal track from the recording. It sounded rather ghoulish in its seemingly-autotuned flat affect.

The video on the screen during was some live early-60's footage of Dennis.

Mike & Bruce did this song last night...did anyone see this show?

Yes, I'm sure some people did.

Actually I was there. Note their costumes on FB. The audience was like a bunch of 80-year-olds watching Doo-Wop on PBS in their Barcaloungers. I stood up during a fast song, and one old biddy tugged at my shirt because she couldn't see.

122  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Dream about the Beach Boys on: August 29, 2014, 08:20:57 PM
I was driving back home, heading east from somewhere in the American midwest-- perhaps Ohio.  My Honda Civic started to have problems after I got a tank of gas.

I managed to get my rough-running car to a service station, and they diagnosed my problem as being horsemeat in the gasoline. The chief mechanic-- a man under 45 with a mustache-- said that I should call Brian Wilson; he might be the best person to talk to, and just happened to be performing nearby that day.

The mechanic dialed up Brian and handed me his phone. After exchanging pleasantries, we got down to business. Brian seemed to have some knowledge of the current issues with horsemeat turning up in gasoline --which had been getting a substantial amount of coverage in the media, to the point of overload--, and we talked about it for close to 10 minutes.  The solution would have something to do with filtering or straining it. Not sure the gasoline would need to be replaced altogether, but it would end up the color of beef bullion-- the mechanic showed me some in a jar.

Brian said to leave open the possibility of trading the car in in its present state, for one of the cheapo reconditioned used cars on this service station's lot. I believe he said something like "I hear he has some pretty nice ones there." I didn't necessarily get the sense he was in cahoots with the dealer-- he's Brian Freaking Wilson, after all.

I fretted about my car being worth maybe $2000 more than the other cars on the lot-- I couldn't imagine the dealer handing me a 2002 Jetta or something similar, and a pile of money to boot. I don't recall what Brian said, but somehow he reassured me that all was not lost.

At the end of our conversation, I mentioned the recent sale of the SMiLE acetates. This did not interest him. We cordially said farewell, I hit the red button, and amiably handed the phone back to the mechanic.

Brian's a really nice, down-to-earth guy on the phone. When I said goodbye, I had the sense that I had made a friend...and to top it all off, my car runs GREAT now. I run the iron horse.

Re this:

Great mix, free of board echo. Mike's backing vocals are nice and prominent in the mix.

The Beach Boys, in their usual non-C50 state, are a cooler, leaner, more straight-tone blend. On In My Room, Mike and Jeff really blended well (sep. In My Room), and anchor the harmonies. Now that Jeff's voice is all over TWGMTR and everything in the C50 tour, his voice adds authenticity and familiarity to the MB band. This is the best I've heard the MB band's vocal blend sound. Never thought I'd say that, but they sound fantastic.

Brian's band has a generally warmer vocal blend, and Brian blends much better with them than he did 10-15 years ago, because of how his voice recovery really took off after 2004. Foskett never really fit the blend at any point, valuable as he's been in many ways. Matt Jardine in Foskett's place will be the icing on the cake.

I really think this fixes the vocal shortcomings of both bands. And personally, I would now actively seek out tickets to MB, rather than being relatively ambivalent.
