"The Right Time"- I really like this one ; Al sounds as good as ever ; How the hell did he do this ? I love the vocal blend on the choruses of Al, Brian , Scott Bennett and Matt. . My favorite part is the wordless vocal break in the instrumental break ; give me more of that !

I'll take more of that too!     Not to single out one point of a great post, but that wordless break with Brian singing bass, that was a true highlight for me. It sounds remarkably better on the "official" releases than it did on the advance video clip release, that bass voice from Brian just nails it.

As far as the "wordless vocal break"... when I first heard a lo-fi stream, I assumed that I was hearing a high falsetto vocal. Now I hear a Love You-style synth. Sometimes I still wonder if it is being doubled by a falsetto vocal...

 

If Brian was trying to destroy his falsetto, why did he keep singing in falsetto during those years?

Brian is in much better voice than Mike these days.

The vinyl is pretty awesome. The alternate track order is pretty effective so far (I'm on side 2 now). Ballsy, detailed sound, silent surfaces. Cool purple Capitol labels. BW is almost life-size on the back cover.

It was funny hearing Blondie sing "still that image stayed alive in my soul", and then it cut right to that hee-haw Jackhole thing.

Tonight, Blondie looked less like Darian's stoned uncle, and more like Bjork.

Between Brian's black shirt and the keyboard he never touched, it was like 1999 all over again!

Props to Brian for pulling of 3 new songs without missing a cue (with no one Fosketting him), as well as filling in Al's sections in Sail Away.  A couple of slightly rough vocal spots aside, he was running the show and on top of his game tonight. 

 

No acknowledgment of Blondie.  The mix didn't bug me as much as the creepy lighting. That said...

And also, Brian's 1st and foremost goal wasn't to make money, he's worked on album to get heard, to make people happy with his music and just because he likes doing it. Is this board q and a not any indication? He cares forefront about music, building vocal stack, arranging, mixing.

Listing to TWGMTR for the first time, baked to the gills. I thought the album was ending with the "Goodbye" at the end of PCH. Oh my god, the Beach Boys just said goodbye.

I think something called Melodyne was used to basically do what Autotune does, on the 88 album.

I heard that something was used on Orange Crate Art. If it was, the final product was still unfortunately pretty pitchy.

A lot of good points raised in this thread, but the one of the things that makes me think everything was carefully, consciously planned by Landy was Brian's will - modified so Landy would get pretty much everything. That's not something you improvise. That's something you really have to think about.

It also implies that Landy was considering outliving Brian.

What was Landy's will at the time? Who was to be his heir?
