You mean the pics of the boys were going to be the cover or the red cover with the L.A. sign ?
In my original meetings with the art department, the album was going to be a gatefold, with my photos laid out like postcards in the sand. The liner sleeve was going to have the postcards with the song titles, with the time & credits underneath each card. When they commissioned the individual artists for the cards, they paid such incredibly high fees to the artists that they felt they could only justify the costs by making the postcards the cover itself - or so I was told... (Another in a long line of disappointments for me in Beach Boy land) I was so pissed about this that I didn't give them the finished group photo that's on the flipside of the liners; (the one where Brian is looking off to the side). I had given this picture, along with another shot with Brian looking towards the camera, to my airbrusher back in those pre-Photoshop days. He also took sections of ivy to replace the fence behind Brian. The record company at least took my idea & removed the ivy, to reuse the picture for a Japanese single of "Here Comes the Night": http://paradise-records.ocnk.net/product/1072 I'd never even seen this until it was used in a collage at the beginning of The Silver Anniversary book by John Milward - and still to this day don't have a copy. Really really nerdy question, ED, but do you have any pictures of Dennis' gear from over the years. Being an (attempted at least) drummer/singer myself, Dennis just endlessly fascinates me. Were the kits he used his own? Did he seek them out for specific reasons. Just any pics of his gear, and of him playing the drums, I could never see enough of. His technique is rarely talked about for a player who had such a powerful/solid sound, therefore I try and glean whatever tidbits possible from pics. I don't think that sounds nerdy. I would like to see that kind of pictures too. Also of Carl and his guitars
