Today's song is Barnyard.
I love Barnyard. And even though I love the version from The Smile Sessions, I find myself going back to the lo-fi sound of the boots without the lyrics for some reason. That short one minute of Smile has always fascinated me. I have to give it 5.

It's a nice tribute, but it's not for me. I've never been crazy about the tributes to the BBs. Barenaked Ladies, The Queers, Weezer...not my kinda stuff. But I agree with Hickory about if it turns anyone on to the BBs that it's not a bad thing.
*The only tribute to the BBs that I've ever liked was by a band called The Sand Of Times with a song called Beach Boys '76.

I was there too. August 16, 2002 at the Avalon Ballroom in Boston. It was the first time I saw him solo (seen him a dozen times since). I agree completely with Googa about Brian's enthusiasm and his voice back then. The First Pet Sounds Tour and the Smile Tour were the most memorable and amazing shows I saw him do. And it does seem that since those Pet Sounds and Smile tours some other artists have picked up on the "classic album" tours. I just saw The Damned perform two of their classic albums

Three Blind Mice
I would love to hear this piece as part of a completed song. After years of hearing only bootlegs it's nice to hear it on the Smile Sessions ("Three Blind Mice 10/15/65"). I like how Brian imitated the horn sound with his voice. "The horns should be a little more BAAAAH-BAAH-BAH...."
I can't say it's 5, and it seems better than 3, so I'm giving it a nice big 4.

IJWMFTT FIVE!!! I've been a Beach Boys fan since I was a little kid in the 1970s. Over time my favorite Beach Boys song has changed multiple times. But for the last decade or so IJWMFTT is the song I think of as my favorite. I love this song more than words can describe.

Sloop John B FIVE It's been described by some fans as the "sore thumb" of the album, and I guess I understand why, but I think it fits nicely on the LP. The vocal performance is out of this world, especially on the a cappella break. Pure gold.

My copy of POB is autographed by Dennis. It originally belonged to a DJ named Tom Doyle. Dennis wrote on the album cover "To Tom Doyle, Get Well, Dennis Wilson 9/26/77". Next to my Beatles Butcher Cover copy of Yesterday And Today it is a most cherished piece and is displayed in a glass frame.
I love POB and all of its moodiness. From the opening piano riff representing the flow of the river to the mournful farewell which ends the LP, it's a perfect album in my opinion.
Snap a picture man, that sounds awesome!
