Title: General Bootleg Question
Post by: junkbondtrader on August 29, 2010, 04:28:56 PM
I notice that alot of the same BB Bootlegs have the same music on them. So my question is what BB bootlegs do you consider essential? Are there a few bootlegs that have certain music you can't get on other bootlegs?

Thanks for all your help

Around these parts, we have no idea what you're talking about, as bootlegs are frowned down upon. However, if you choose to Perhaps Maybe  talk to someone else privately about this,  that is entirely your own decision.

I realized you couldn't post links or tell people where to find bootlegs, but I didn't realize you couldn't even talk about them. Whats the difference between talking about unreleased songs you've heard and then talking about the "album" there own?

You are correct, sir. Stop be so paranoid, Million Units!

Nearly every bootleg has something unique, sadly. However, if you got the Dumb Angel series, and Archaeology you might be all set. Possibly with Get the Boot as well. Oh, and you can never have enough Smile bootlegs, of course   ;D

if your including live bootlegs, the 1972 Carnegie hall performance is a must.

All This Is That on the Sea of Tunes label is a good one to get. The Garage Tapes is a must.

Get the Boot is fun, maybe not essential but stuff you've always wanted to hear that you've read about for years

One of the highlights(at least for me) is the original version of Oh Darlin' that has the original lead vocal from Brian. The lyrics are also quite different.

Track 8 isn't an alternate version, it's from the jaw-droppingly amazing 1993 Red Barn rehearsals.

Track 24 is a fragment of "Love, Remember Me" from the Bambu sessions.

Or so I've been told, as I don't actually have anything like this in my possession, you understand. That would be a bad thing.

True - I would have thought all the same BB boots would have exactly identical music on them.

The Dumb Angel stuff is great.     Get the Boot has some good stuff.

The unplugged/box live set from 93 is a must have.   A lot of the SOT stuff just drives me nuts after awhile with all of the takes.   But excellent quality and good stuff if you are making a comp along the lines of a Hawthorne.

The version of Love Remember (although not great sound quality) sounds a little different with the drum effects, it sounds very 80s influenced (although it predates that decade/genre)

my favs from this boot are:
Time to get Alone track
Won't You Tell Me (really good vocals)
Had to Phone Ya track
the Love You rarities included

BTW, what is Where We Are?

8. All This Is That (Stereo Alternate Version) 3:52
Track 8 isn't an alternate version, it's from the jaw-droppingly amazing 1993 Red Barn rehearsals.

Andrew, I thought that was from the sound check for the Paramount Show in 1993. There are several other songs that were soundchecked that day (again, so i have been told.......)

It's always been described to me, right from the beginning, as being Red Barn rehearsals, which would of course explain 1) the pristine audio quality, and 2) the absence of Mike. Just to be sure, I double-checked with someone who would know.  ::)

Wonder if any other of those Red Barn sessions have leaked into, er, the public realm. Not that it would make any difference to anyone here whatsoever, this being a strict church-going forum.

The truth is out there.

… and after rooting through my collection I find that the truth isn't necessarily "out there", more "in there". Maybe time I got them all sorted into alphabetical. Or chronological.

Or if you're like me, actually label the damn things properly: Good Stuff VII and Not To Be Copied XXXIV isn't much help six years later.  >:(
