I was one of the very first to order it, for $110, with super-extra-fast international shipping, and it's not yet shipped. That said, it'd be the first time Amazon lets me down. The delivery estimate for me is Nov. 3 - Nov. 7, so I'll wait until then before complaining.

Did you rip it? that's a semi-normal ripping issue

No, the problem's on the CD. Other people have reported this problem as well.

On the 2-CD set: is it only my copy, or does the stereo mix of H&V (track 21 on CD1) have a problem? Near the end of the song (03:32), after "I'm alright... By the heroes and...", the last chorus kicks in SUPER FAST and then slows down. It's really noticeable.

Two questions:

1) if any of you already have both the boxset and the 2-LP set, what's the "inner sleeve art" that's supposed to be exclusive to the 2-LP set (i.e. not contained on box set vinyl) ?

2) On the 2-CD set: is it only my copy, or does the stereo mix of H&V (track 21 on CD1) have a problem? Near the end of the song (03:32), after "I'm alright... By the heroes and...", the last chorus kicks in SUPER FAST and then slows down. It's really noticeable.

Great interviews, fantastic footage. Makes you wonder about all the treasures we still haven't been able to see.

My local store had the 2-CD set AND the boxset. It was very tempting but more expensive than the one I ordered online... So I decided to wait for the boxset to arrive, but I bought the 2-CD set.

It's good. Very, very, very, VERY GOOD.

I don't have anything more to say at the moment.

That's what I'm going to buy too, man.  I still can't justify spending so much on the big boxset but it looks great.  I'm going to have to make do with the 2cd set, did you get yours in the States?

I know to 'us' we think this is a huge release, and it's pretty big, but unless it's like the newest/hottest/hippest rap act out, a LOT of stores put the CD's on the shelves ahead of time.  I'll bet you could buy it as soon as they get it in in about half the mom and pop stores and probably a lot of the Best Buys, etc.

Edit: Just noticed you're from France.  Viva La France!  BTW Thank you for the beautiful statue.

You're welcome! Should the Chinese claim their money, don't hesitate to scrap it, it's worth a fortune in bronze and steel  Grin

Also I think you may have misunderstood me - I grabbed the 2-CD set immediately, but I also ordered the boxset on Amazon.com. When I held a boxset in my hands today at the store, I toyed with the idea of immediately buying it and cancelling my Amazon order, but the €62 difference compared to the one I saw in the store today makes it okay to wait just a few days more.

Then again, chances are you'll be able to listen to the boxset soon without even spending a dime on it. Not that I condone such practices  Grin

It may also be a nod to the Crow Nation.

Alternatively, on the "Your Orders" page, above "No orders found", click on "open orders".  Wink

From time to time, we might have our own internecine or whatever you call it, squabbles...

...But these are merely minor annoyances compared to what this board actually is - the best Beach Boys board around, a place full of interesting and nice people who share information, and most of all, their passion. May this board go on for many, many more years.

And we're gonna do it for world peace and love and harmony! Yeah!  Grin

So yes, you can buy the entire album for $3.99 from the Amazon MP3 store.

If you want to buy the physical copy you can buy the extra tracks separately from Amazon! This is a change for the better.

IF you live in the USA.

Interestingly, they played Les Paul & Mary Ford's "How High is the Moon", which was discussed on this very board a few days ago because a part of it sounded like Smile section.

Here's an old French commercial, one of my first encounters with the Beach Boys. I was 1 or 2 at the time, but I remember liking this ad a lot, it's one of my earliest memories, if not the earliest.

290  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Your first SMiLE experience.. on: October 22, 2011, 02:09:38 PM
My first encounter with Smile was with the "Made In USA" compilation (H&V and GV), that I used to listen as a kid.

A few years later: I was searching for BB music on... KaZaALips Sealed Most of the available songs were hits, or at least songs that I knew... Except for that one song that only one person was sharing, and that had a strange name... "Cabinessence". When I finally got it I started listening to it over and over again, not really knowing whether I liked it, not knowing why I was playing it so much, but knowing I had never heard anything like it before. And then it hit me: the song was simply fantastic, kinda in the same vein as H&V and GV, and I needed to get more of this. The Beach Boys did that?

So I went on the Internet, typed "Cabinessence" in Google, and found out about Smile. Over the following months, I grabbed all the information I could about the album, along with the few tracks scattered on old abandoned websites. The next step was the GV boxset, then the "Project Smile" CD, then BWPS, and then all the bootlegs and many fan mixes. And, in a few days, the Smile boxset, of course.

There's a lesson for record companies behind all this. I illegally downloaded one track, and ended up buying the entire BB discography.  Grin

Peter Max needs to die quickly - here's why. He wants to ruin a few dozen original Corvettes.

Be sure to read it, it's Beach Boys-related.

"Adobe Flash plugin crashed". I'd be very surprised if you could actually listen to snippets of all the tracks anyway.
293  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: New studio album (Ocean Way sessions) on: October 14, 2011, 01:42:05 PM
"Ocean Way" sounds great to me... There's also "Cousins, Friends and Brothers", but it's too long and unfortunately only one of these brothers is still with us.

So I'm suggesting an alternative that will please at least two parties...

294  Smiley Smile Stuff / General On Topic Discussions / Re: Had a SMiLE related nightmare last night on: October 09, 2011, 11:39:08 AM
This happened a month ago: I had just received the Smile boxset! LOL

It was quite large: it came in a wooden crate, probably  50in*50in, with 2 vinyl discs, a dozen CDs, a few photographs, other stuff that I can't remember, and TWO books, one was a paperback, the other a hardcover, but they had the same content, and they weren't just about Smile, but about the entire BB story... About 1500 pages  Shocked

I also dreamt I was listening to the CDs, I distinctly remember they weren't Smile tracks, actually I had never heard these pieces of music before, so they must have been something I invented in my sleep LOL They sounded very good but sadly when I woke up I couldn't "recreate" them (this happened before, in a previous dream I was with Bach, he was playing the harpsichord and I was playing the piano, and "we" came up with something great... That I couldn't remember either)

Back when I got my first taste of Smile material, way back in the olden days of 2001, I was but a mere 17 year old kid. The Smile material was one of those musical experiences (others include Days of Future Passed, The Dark Side of the Moon, The Doors, Are You Experienced?, Kind of Blue, Ligeti's Atmospheres, Bach's Mass in B Minor, The Second Annual Report of Throbbing Gristle, Dreamies, Haackula) that opened up vast catacombs of wisdom and thought in my young mind. I remember finding the music frightening in the best possible way. I wouldn't say it gave me NIGHTMARES per se, but it definitely made me look at music differently. A lot of my views on Smile are based on those early listens. This is something that I felt BWPS lacked - the eerie, malevolent sound. The sound that was going to scare a lot of people.
My first encounter with Smile is remarkably similar. I remember "Fire" and "CIFOTM" were especially frightening, partly due to the bad sound quality. I don't really know how to describe it, but the songs had some sort of "came from six feet under" quality. Listening to the songs at night in complete darkness was really a one-of-a-kind experience, that I haven't been able to reproduce because I now know the songs too well. But the effect these first few listens had on me is forever linked to Smile.

Dude! That's, like, a bit harsh. Just sayin'. That said, at the end of the day, I agree with you. Alot.

Don't get me wrong - obviously his death isn't good news, but all the undeserved praise and fake emotion is annoying.
297  Non Smiley Smile Stuff / The Sandbox / Re: Flossing on: October 06, 2011, 11:48:58 AM
I don't get the point of flossing if you brush your teeth correctly.

You cant brush the spaces where your teeth are touching!

With the right toothbrush, you kinda can.

I get the impression that flossing is mostly an American thing anyway - we have dental floss in stores over here too (France, and Europe in general), but I don't know anyone who uses it. I certainly don't use it, and I've never had any kind of problem with my teeth...  Huh

I had been looking for such a list for a very long time. I don't really care about the dates, I just want to know what-can-be-found-where. Thanks a lot for this.  Thumbs Up

At the very least we can expect this kind of spread:

That was... Interesting. For some reason I felt compelled to read it all.  Lips Sealed
