...Just a rather stupid topic, especially compared to the Labor Day Weekend thread, but I was wondering if anyone besides me finds Mike Love humorous....listening to any of the SOT's we can hear Mike make light of the vocal responsibilities while still executing stellar Vox trax...he had trouble holding back his urge to leak behind a tree during the Hawaii concerts....and he had some funny thoughts to share about H&V's, (even if Brian was egging him on)...

...not important, but just wondering if anyone hear besides me finds him funny. Gold vest or no gold vest.

He'd have to be funny to release A German CD titled "Fist love"

Count me in as somebody who finds Mike Love hilarious, genuinely.  I'm big on that sardonic, self-deprecating kind of humor and I think he's got a great mind for it. Reminds me of the best Jewish humor, like Seinfeld or Garry Shandling.

I want to add that I would love to watch a Mike Love-penned sitcom. Agreed?

I think he's pretty funny. He once said he likes to make jokes that bomb and I kind of like that.

I think I kind of have that humor myself. I don't tell jokes in the way Mike does, but I will throw in some really offbeat comment just to fool with people and I find that funny. God I sound mean Evil

I wouldn't go that far. Although, if he has spent a lot of time working on his jokes, maybe that explains why he never really got good at playing any instruments.

The theme music for a ML sitcom would have to be "Good Vibrations" arranged in the same type of  jazzy style used for the show "Fraiser".

(MIKE LOVE enters the room and busts out a fake microphone)

MIKE LOVE: -in his bass voice- Lucy, I'm hoooooooooome. -laugh track-

MIKE'S WIFE: And where were you last night?

MIKE LOVE: Me and the guys were at the karaoke bar, and we got hauled away by the police for trying to sing acapella. -laugh track-

MIKE'S WIFE: And why did they arrest you for that?

MIKE LOVE: "Acapella" means "nude", doesn't it? -laugh track-

On "Party", Mike perhaps tells us a little more than he might want us to know about some of his attitudes while doing his "mincing caveman" bit in "Alley Oop" ("what a big bruiser he is").

My favorite Mike Love moment is during the Hartford 1973 show. After Dennis tells his Nixon joke, Mike says "That joke leaves a bad taste in my mouth".  Grin

Nixon joke:

Quote
DW:
Hey, I’m telling a joke...
He [Nixon] was walking down the beach... by San Clemente home... and he was walking down, looking at the sand, going “ah sh*t, what next”, you know...
And he looks and then said – in the sand someone urinated... in the sand – and he said “Rixard Nixon is a prick.”
And he was outraged. He called all his aides, called all the... the FBI, the CIA, called everybody in...

ML:
He has all his best ones in prison though...

DW:
So, wait a minute, so... he said “I want a urine analysis...”
ARE YOU LISTENING?!

Audience:  YEAH !!

DW:
Alright... “...and I want a handwriting analysis, within 2 days.”
So... 2 days later his big aide comes up and he says: “Sir, I have some very bad news to tell you.” He said: “The urine analysis... it’s, well... it’s Doctor Kissinger’s urine”... he said, “but, but the bad thing is, it’s in Tricia’s handwriting.”

[Audience laughs and applauds.]

DW:
Thank you.

ML:
Well... (how are you doing...) that joke leaves a bad taste in my mouth, ha.

Rule of thumb, think BEFORE you post. And THINK how it may affect someone else's feelings.

Check out the Beach Boys Starline website, the place for pictures of many countries Beach Boys releases on 45.

Listening to you I get the music; Gazing at you I get the heat; Following you I climb the mountain; I get excitement at your feet

If we're still on the subject of a Mike Love sitcom, I've always thought "Too Cruel" from First Love sounded exactly like the theme song to a TGIF sitcom from the 90's. That'd probably do for the theme song.

unrelated, but nowhere else to put it. I've been working on hammering out an idea for either a sitcom, or a series of short plays based around the Beach Boys dynamic, but not actually about them. About a crazy man, and his family and friends, including a permanently be-hatted neighbor who has a new wife every episode and has a number of ongoing legal battles against the protagonist.

Still haven't found any use for Al in it. I like Al well enough, but he just isn't meshing. Maybe he'll be the protagonist's podiatrist or something.

Maybe Al could be like Kenny in South Park and die a horrible death in each episode, only to turn up again next week unscathed?

David Letterman used to joke about this guy Al Jardine coming up to him and asking him if the Beach Boys could be on his show. How about something like that? A little guy, unwanted, but with $300 begging to be in the group! Grin

Never thought of that. But Mike doesn't laugh at himself as much as Conan does. I don't really see it. Mike is smirky funny, while Conan is laugh out loud funny.
