I think you should interview Mike.

Hopefully by this time tomorrow, summerinparadise.flac will be able give us the answer to the question that has plagued Beach Boy fans, critics, scholars and biographers for time out of mind - does Mike Love or does Mike Love not believe in the existence of ghosts?

We're gona do do this sh*t.

A few things that I would do if I met Mike Love:

- Ask him to autograph my cd copy of BWPS.

- Offer him a football helmet explaining that "hats" are out and these are in.

- Ask him to autograph my left buttock.

- Offer him a good deal on a used bicycle, no questions asked.

- Fart very loudly and instead of apologizing say "damn, those ribs was good!".

- Roll my eyes like I didn't recognize him and say "what the f*** are you looking at, mister?".

I would ask Mike to get me a Diet Coke, please.

Maybe Mike's like The Ghost Whisperer, only without the cracking set of titties.

The show was fantastic though. The young guys are all great and Mike's bass vocals are quite good at turning me on.
Bruce's voice is shot. He took the bridge on Surfer Girl and it was pretty rough. He did warm up a bit but his voice can't handle taking the leads. He did lead on the trio of Pet Sounds songs (Sloop, Wouldn't it Be Nice, God Only Knows). Sloop and Wouldn't it Be Nice were passable but no way should he be singing God Only Knows.

I think what happened was Mike recognised you as the guy who's bike he ripped off. He panicked, then had Bruce divert the crowd's attention with a twenty minute rendition of "Brand New, Old Friends" while he slipped out the back door and hightailed it over the border to Mexico till the heats died down.

Same thing happened to me at the Palm Springs show. Okay, I didn't wait 6 hours... I just wandered around the perimeter of the casino drunk a couple times and then gave up. But what a let down!  Not really, it was a great show.  One of the best nights of my life.

I stayed at a hotel across the freeway from the casino.  The next day as I was checking out, the girl at the desk had a list of "Expected Check-Outs" and Mike Love's name was on it, along with a room number.  It could have just been that he put someone up there under his name, but I stuck around for a while hoping he would emerge from room 135.  It was not to be.  And then I started to feel like a weirdo so I left.

Ever considered the possibility that someone in his organisation has been reading this thread and reported back to him that there's going to be some wierdo waiting outside who's going to ask him really dumbass questions about ghosts and bikes ?

The "girl at the desk" showed you a list of "Expected Check Outs?"

And a "Room Number?"

Did anyone tell her that  hotel guests should their "privacy respected?"  Shocked

In my case, I had to ply her with drinks and grand offers of stardom.
Room numbers are somewhat important in these cases, wouldn't you say?

No, it doesn't.

Say, they are going through a casino/hotel in a "common area" (and not a discrete entrance/exit)- then, maybe they expect to see fans, and "might" stop for an autograph or photo.  That goes with the "territory."

But, I think that they have a "reasonable expectation of privacy" when they pay for a room.

Hotel staff are usually cautioned, or should be, that hotel guests should be accorded privacy as "guests" of the establishment.

I find it troubling that a hotel desk clerk would disclose a list of occupants and room numbers.

It poses a security risk.  I would either "warn" or fire that clerk.

i used to get them back in the day with no trouble at all. and not just the band members..the whole crew. some places gave them to me on hotel paper. all in knowing who to ask and how to ask, you see. made it quite easy to talk to them once you got to the right floor. handy info to have.

Steve -

This is not "back in the day" and if a crew person did that it is one thing and should "not" be a problem.

It matters "from whom" the info is coming.

The problem is that it is "coming from the hotel employee" who is "an agent" for the hotel.  So, it conveys the message that the guest privacy means nothing and that there is no policy to protect a paying customer.

Hotel (innkeepers) have a general "duty not to disclose your room number."  This came from a general website on "Smarter Travel."

I'm with AGD on this one.  I know everyone was probably joking about questions for Mike but still...those were some freaky questions and loving the music and the band that creates it is one thing - but being a crazed stalker is another.  I try to stay on the right side of the line.  As Foskett often says "Security..."

Call me crazy but I believe the Mike and Bruce and the band should be treated respectfully by the fans.  The music has been so good to me and that is just how I wish to show my thanks.  That said, humour always has a place...

I was at the show (it was great BTW) and I had the good fortune to go backstage before and after the show and spend time with the people who bring the music to life.  It was good fun.  Great guys.

BTW, Bruce did NOT sing the lead to Wouldn't It Be Nice (That was Randell Kirsch and John Cowsill on dual lead).  Bruce did sing lead on Please Let Me Wonder (as well as GOK, Surfer Girl bridge, first verse of Sloop, DYWD).

Highlights for me were:
John Cowsill going mental on the drums for Summertime Blues (wonderful drummer)
Scott's lead on Ballad of Betsy (especially the vocal harmonies at the end)
Mike bass vocal work all over the place and his lead on I Get Around in particular was beautifully arrogant (His vocalswere very strong last night)
Darlin
So Young (Randell has a sweet falsetto)

But the song of the night for me was Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring.  The Jubilee is a beautiful venue with great acoustics and hearing just Mike, Bruce, Scott, and Randell a Capella was other worldly good.  Those complex harmonies slay me.  Mike intro about Ron and Nancy was quite nice and sincere too.

If I get time I'll post the full setlist later.

Going to see them again tonight and tomorrow too.  Can't get enough of this music.

Thats possible. But:
#1: I never said I would ask him about bikes. That bike thing was an obvious joke about how everyone blames Mike Love for things that happen in the Beach Boys. "I thought jokes were supposed to be funny" premptive reply: I make jokes that I think are funny, I don't care if a dude a thousand miles away laughs.
#2: I don't know how the ghost thing is dumb.

I hear you. Of course, now it just seems too convenient for the list to be sitting out like that. It's clear that ML was only a pawn in a scheme that was actually focused on me. The question being: who was trying to lure me, and why?
