Apologies if this has been done before. Wild Honey was released exactly 3 months after Smiley Smile, but what if they had just waited a while and picked the best of all the songs from that late '67 period.

And let's say Capitol DID release a SMiLE album as was bandied about at the time, so finished SMiLE tracks would be included on that.

This tracklist is personal taste and so a few things have been left in the can, but please feel free to do your own — also what would be a good title for this album?

Can't Wait Too Long (A Cappella Mix)   0:52 ("I miss you darlin, I miss you so hard'' into......)

Time To Get Alone   2:38
Country Air   2:16
Little Pad   2:33
Cool Cool Water   2:58

Very nice idea! I have two objections to your list: The Letter, and Here Comes The Night. I must log out now, so I'll return tomorrow with some ideas. The beauty of your concept is that there emerges a great autumnal LP (my view), something entirely of its own.

My last thought for now: it should be coherently mixed and produced, preferably in real stereo (in the style of Friends).

Later, the Don.

I think that H&V would have to lead off the album....

But if Capitol had released a Smile album, why would H&V, Wind Chimes and Cool Cool Water be on this?

Apart from the little piece of nit-picking...

Watch this space. I shall debate this when i am back from the pub, methinks.

It's the original version of Cool Cool Water, not the Sunflower one so it wouldn't include the Dada water chant. No answer for the other two, but then I decided to break the rule by sticking a Smile recording of Wonderful in there!

Smiley Smile versions of Wind Chimes (far superior and rather sinister imho  Evil ) and H&V. Cool Cool Water (though based on Da Da) was done during Wild Honey (or thereabouts).  Smiley

Some things I left off for a reason... never liked SS Wonderful compared to the perfect harpsichordy breezy original. Gettin' Hungry I find a bit throwaway (no offence to anyone). Mama Says.... surely better as part of Vega-Tables.

There were some truly awesome sessions for With Me Tonight during SMiLE, though I love the SS version too.  Cool

Perhaps under the circumstances from over that past year:  Been Way Too Long could be the album's title.

BTW try Time To Get Alone followed by Country Air (stereo version if you have it)... they sound like a great pair and have a similar sentiment!

On the topic of alternative BB albums, how about this version of Sunflower:

Side A:
1. I Just Got My Pay
2. Loop De Loop
3. Good Time
4. When Girls Get Together
5. Susie Cincinnati
6. Games Two Can Play

Side B:
7. Take A Load Off Your Feet
8. Walking
9. At My Window
10. Back Home (this version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHEzk9ZKVik)
11. San Miguel
12. Tears In The Morning
13. This Whole World

To be honest, that probably would've been Brian's favorite Beach Boys album. "Loop De Loop" would've been the album's single, a double A-side with "All I Wanna Do".

When I mix those albums I also like to include Riot in Cell Block #9 outtake from Party, just seems to fit.

Never gave any thought to a "Smiley/Honey" album.  To me they are so different in style.  Interesting ideas though.

A while back I thought about starting a thread discussing what if Smiley Smile had been issued using the existing SMiLE tracks instead of rerecording tracks like Wonderful, Wind Chimes, etc.  The Boys would only have had to record Fall Breaks, Little Pad, With Me Tonight, Gettin' Hungry, and Whistle In.  Half the album was already "in the can".

"Fall Breaks and Back To Winter"

If Smile had been released, they wouldn't have used this as a track as its a overdub from Mrs O'Leary's Cow

I am completely obsessed with Willy's original idea, albeit that it's expanded in my brain by now. Work in progress: construct the best autumnal album from SS, WH, Friends, and 20/20. Ditties like 'Sail Plane Song' are allowed. Perhaps a brief instrumental interlude too, e.g. 'Til I Die' from EH.

Only demand: autumnal and peaceful.
