Good God: Ladies and gentleman-the Beach Boys...Mike & Bruce fit in perfectly with the toxic waste of modern culture. They deserve each other. A bald, bitter man in a crazy-glued baseball hat & a Pug nose twit in shorts croaking away to 50 year old music done karaoke style. Eeeeeeeeewwwwww...Least they didn't do disco versions...I guess...

I'd say you also fit in well with the toxic waste of modern culture, if only for the abundance of spelling errors alone.

It's terrible that we have "Mike fans" and "Brian fans"... I love 'em all because they were BBs. This isn't '67 and Brian and Van Dyke aren't my friends, so I don't know what's up with the hate. At the end of the day, all we have is the music and I love them all for it. Rock on!

i'm thinking he meant it was good that they didnt do a disco version on Dancing with the Stars....

Oh, and to be technical, there's a promo cut of HCTN (disco) as a a medley with the early hits, and yes, they're disco too.   Thud

I wish the fanbase in general shared your beliefs, my friend. But Michael Love has written songs that speak to me. C'mon, who can argue with a timeless classic like Wrinkles? It's so sincere it could run for President and win the Nobel Peace Prize for accomplishing absolutely nothing! Smiley

That, and the majority of Brianistas suffer from tunnel-vision.

Forgive me, but I find this post ironically hilarious. Using the word "Brianista" is the exact type of "fan" that Dada is speaking of.

"Ladies and gentleman"? Maybe if you were speaking to Michael Love and his entourage. Smiley
"Pug nose twit"
"Least they didn't do disco versions..."

If you wanna be picky, there's nothing spelled incorrectly per se...but the ladies and gentlemen around here would like a pug-nosed twit like you to at least attempt proper usage of words. Smiley

I'm kidding, of course. Welcome to the board.

But Michael and Bruce are certainly better off than we are, so who are we to argue? Smiley

Well let's see...No one was being "picky"-you were... And you were wrong. See words mean something-but with a moniker (that means name) like yours (Real BEach Boy) no wonder it's confusing. Aka: there are no real Beach Boys anymore. They've been gone a long, long time. R.I.P. Thanx for the "welcome"  Mr. positivity-)

O.K. I'm in....But I'm not a Brianista....I just love his "spirit", and his soul....Truth: most of his solo stuff is crap. (imho) IT's either produced poorly, performed sub-par, or whatever, but it is what it is...and that's that...I got kicked off the blue board ayear ago for simply saying these things as gently as possible. So I'm no "Brianista"-give me that much. TLOS coulda been great, but they rushed it. How they wrecked M.A.D. I'll never know... The demo's fantastic! Anyway...What's painfully obvious to me nowadays is that Brian (when he feels like it) still has the writing chops-he does not have performance chops-period... And I think what's most obvious about the Beach Boys story, is quite simply that they all needed each other. BRian: the brains, Carl: the heart, Dennis: the soul-and the rest of the beautiful vocal blend...Forget the early magic without Mike Love lead vocal (even tho I can't stand the prick) ya gotta give credit where credit is due...Even in the 70's just listen to Airplane (killer Mike vocal!), or Big Sur (outtake)-just stunning stuff... And here's the sad part-they could still be making magic had the "spirit" of the endeavor not been lost many years ago...(Thank you, in large part to M.E.L. aka: the "prick"). O.K. I'm dune-but I'm no "Brianista"-) I don't think? Cheers.

Good god man, learn to use paragraphs. And you can't expect to make your first post THAT and not be accused of being a Brianista, although you seem to have a semi-reasonable POV.

By the by, I simply prefer Brian to the rest of the group. I don't actively hate Mike, he's just my least favourite Beach Boy and has done a lot of things i don't like, along with some things i do. I don't knock the efforts of Carl, Dennis, Bruce, Al, Blondie and Ricky unduly either. Brian's simply my favourite.

You know, for me it's like this; I don't care for any of them now. Like, I think they should all hang it up. Get over it. There's nothing worse than watching guys past their prime get up on a stage and think that they're still 21. I LOVE The Beach Boys. I think Brian WAS a genius at one time. I think the Beach Boys AT ONE POINT  could have ruled the music world, if they would have played their cards right. At some point though, IMO, you've got to move on to something else. Although for a lot of these guys, this is all they know. So in a way I understand, but in another way, it just looks like it's a bunch of old men who can't let the admiration go.
Another band that springs to mind is The Who. I LOVE The Who. The old Who. Whenever I see them now, though, Daltrey sounds like crap. Townshend looks like a mockery of his old self. Doing his windmill move. And Daltrey swinging that mic around. It's like a parody.
Mind you, I love the above people I mentioned. It's just that, to me, at some point you've got to let it go, man. Let it go. Because you just may end up doing your legacy harm. Which I think is what has happened to The Beach Boys, in a way.

Here's the problem with Mike and Bruce hanging it up. As long as they continue to sell out their lengthy concert touring list AND receive positive vibes from media and THE CROWD, the show will go on. I don't know about Al or even Brian at this point, but The Beach Boys show will continue until Mike has to be wheeled out. The Dancing show was a fluke. Mike had an off night and thought he could pull it off. It didn't work. Life goes on.

I think Mike and Bruce really are just addicted to the adulation, like a lot of performers are. They already have plenty of money, I'm sure, and you'd think that they would want to take the time to relax and enjoy the small fortunes they worked so hard for. Who knows how long their health will last? But it seems they prefer being on the road... Huh

Yeah, in short...Whenever someone (anyone) tours as something they are not-it's doing damage to the legacy. It's just sad, really.

....in their defense, a good work ethic keeps you healthy. That might be the only thing they can do well...er, depending on what the definition of well is.
