As much as people of my 'generation' think it's so hip and out there, I'm am not a huge fan, I always argue how they didn't do the voices, just the music, not a lot of participation...To me it's the Beatles meet School House Rock.

But there are 3 good things that came out from it:
1) the Beatle 'music videos', I do like what they did with Nowhere Man and Only a Northern Song.
2) We received the Lennon gem: Hey Bulldog
3) George Martin's score is fabulous, in particularly the suite for Pepperland...I listen to that song all the time, getting up for work, driving, whatever; has such a good feel. Am I missing any other George Martin gems from his catalog besides the YS OST?

What are your top 3?

Hey Bulldog is one of my all time favorite Beatles tracks.  The Ringo/Paul rhythm section is incredible.  And Only A Northern Song is probably right up there as my fave George track-although I like the version on the Anthology cd, without the sound effects.

As for anything else good to come out of it, I'm at a loss.

I like all the soundtrack songs, especially "Hey Bulldog" and "It's All Too Much".  And the footage for "Eleanor Rigby" is an excellent visual interpretation of the song, I think.

OH YEAH!   Forgot that was coming out, I think it'll be cool, I'd love to see some of the sequences in 3D...maybe under the influence of something.

That Robert Zemeckis never lets me down

Three good things that came from Yellow Submarine?

1.

Old Fred - Where ARE your friends, anyway?
Ringo - Just playin'.
Old Fred -Just playin' what?
Ringo - Just playin' around.

2.

Ringo - I've got a hole in me pocket.

3.

Ringo - Woe...is...me. Liverpool can be a pretty lonely place on a Saturday night...and it's only Thursday morning. I'd jump into the River Mersey, but it looks like rain. Nothing ever happens to me...

I love the whole thing. Watched it as a kid before I was seriously into the Beatles (although I think everyone is kind of into the Beatles from birth...) and loved it; that didn't diminish at all as I found out they were more soundtrack and inspiration than anything else. But what's wrong with Schoolhouse Rock?!?

Schoolhouse Rock is fricking awesome. My favorite? Lolly Get Your Adverbs, and the adjective one; 'Got home from camping last spring'.

I'm a HUGE Yellow Submarine fan. It's a classic. I saw it when I was little, and I've loved it ever since.  I collect Yellow Submarine memorabilia. I collect pretty much anything I can find and afford. Even some things I really can't afford.  Grin

I watched it when i was a kid too, and it's still great. Although as in Beatles films, Ringo tends to get the best lines

Oh, if only the WWF had such classic writing as the Blue Meanies did.
Speaking of which:

1. "Pepperland is a tickle of joy on the blue belly of the universe. It must be scratched."
2. "We meanies only take NO for an answer!"
3. "Today, Pepperland goes BLUEly!"

One final thought.

I never thought the movie was that trippy or clever.   I preferred the midnight showings of Betty Boop and Felix the cat at the local theater.  Now THAT was trippy.

Absolutely true, the Submarine DVD has interviews with the original voice actors. By all accounts they picked the fellow to do George from a pub. Paul does a good impression of the fake liverpool accents in the Anthology film.

I hate that people my age like it because they think it's "trippy,"  there are far more trippier films out there

The $300 nostalgia trip:

from http://www.rarebeatles.com/photopg8/yellowsu.htm

The Beatles Yellow Submarine (movie comic), published by Gold Key / Western Publishing, 1968. Issued with a 12-1/2" x 20" Yellow Submarine pull-out poster (shown below). This is the second rarest Beatles comic value-wise, and very scarce in NM/Mint condition. Two NM+ copies turned up last year and promptly sold for $300.00 each.
