I think Mike's corniness has evened out with his old age. It seems to come off slightly more palatable today than it did then...at least to me, it does.

I like what Mike says at shows, especially shows in countries where the majority of the audience can't understand him. I find his corniness really endearing.
To each his own but corniness has not been the best influence in the way the band is viewed. Add those flowing robes, turbans, sequined jackets, tight leotards, feathers, tacky jewelery and a little horn to toot and we have a genuine clown on stage.

I like some of Mike's banter. "Uncomfortable chair" is a genuine classic ! But sometimes it's - as someone already stated - just too much. And an absolute no-go is to make "funny" sounds during the songs.
Nowadays it seems to be better imo. He's cooled down. A lot of times in the 80s and 90s I had the feeling he was trying to hard to suggest the party/free living/hedonistic/good time boy image. Something that Bruce afterwards took over it seems (imo).

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST
To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Might this be the project that will surface later this year, according to Al?
