When did The Beach Boys record a version of You've Lost That lovin' Feeling? I just heard it recently, and I was kind of surprised that Brian sang in falsetto.

Fall 1976. According to the engineer, Brian played all the instruments. Great version, but I think only that mixdown exists in the vaults.

Not a BB version - Brian solo: all instruments (keyboards, percussion) and vocals. Magnificent.

This, and Sherry She Needs Me, should have been on 15 Big Ones. Instead, we get to listen to crap like TM song, That Same Song, and Talk To Me. Does that make sense to you?

Brian's good, but even he couldn't put a track on an album that was released some four, five months before he recorded it.  Cool

I agree about TM Song (THE worst Brian Wilson song ever perhaps?) and Talk To Me (the original is WAYYY better).. but I quite like That Same Song.. I mean in terms of the material on that album it sounds pretty good to me. But I agree though, replace TM Song & Talk To Me with Sherry She Needs Me and YLTLF

TM Song has some cool little changes. Not to change topic, but IMO the worst RELEASED BW song may be "Match Point..." or "Make A Wish."

As it's technically a solo track, probably not...but it's by no means unreleaseable. It's one of the better unreleased recordings.

If they can put Still I Dream Of It and It's Over Now on a Beach Boys box, they should totally put this on a future one.

Maybe AGD can refresh my memory about this. I recall that the multitracks hadn't been found for this track, only a rough mixdown. I would hope at least the fidelity of that mixdown in the vaults would be better than what "circulates", which sounds like a fifth-generation cassette dub.

As for 15BO, I actually think "That Same Song" and to a lesser extend "TM Song" are two of the better tracks on the album. They are more enjoyable to me than the limp oldies covers.

Several Dennis solo tracks have made Beach Boys compilations, though, and there are also several album tracks in which only one Beach Boy appears. As for the compilations tracks, consider "A Time To Live In Dreams", "Barbara", and the less debatable "All Alone" which we were more certain was actually specifically a Dennis solo track. Wasn't "Brian's Back" a Mike solo track, too?

Also, "That Same Song" kicks ass.

Of course...I don't really mean to nitpick. This IS the Beach Boys we're talking about here. Smiley

The multitracks exist, and their location is known. What's circulating is a safety copy.

I love this cover - one of my favourite BB's unreleased tunes. Hope against hope it makes it's way onto a boxset.
