Los Angeles – March 31, 2015 – The Beach Boys’ acclaimed 1966 album, Pet Sounds, will make its Blu-ray Audio debut on May 26.  The Capitol/UMe release presents the classic album plus six bonus tracks in high resolution (192kHz/24-bit) audio in three distinct mixes, including Brian Wilson’s original mix in PCM Mono, as well as Dolby True HD Stereo and exclusive new DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 Surround mixes, both produced and mixed by Mark Linett under Wilson’s supervision.

The Beach Boys’ 12th studio album, Pet Sounds is of one of popular music’s most influential and universally-acclaimed albums. Nearly five decades since its original May 16, 1966 release, the masterpiece has reigned at the top of countless critic and fan polls, maintaining its timeless rank as one of popular music’s most-cited influences. More than 100 domestic and international publications and journalists have lauded Pet Sounds as one of the greatest albums ever recorded. In 1995, Pet Sounds topped MOJO magazine’s special list of “The Greatest Albums of All Time” at No. 1, and in 2003, Rolling Stone ranked it at No. 2 on the magazine’s oft-cited list of the “500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”  The album’s “Good Vibrations,” hailed as the “Greatest Single of All Time” by MOJO and the “No. 6 Greatest Song of All Time” by Rolling Stone, is a timeless musical treasure in its own right."

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Pet Sounds (High Fidelity Blu-ray audio)
by The Beach Boys

Details

The classic 1966 album Pet Sounds will be issued on the Pure Audio blu-ray audio format in April 2015, over a year after the release was first touted.

While the delay has been frustrating, the new blu-ray arguably ticks all the boxes because it includes three versions of the album: the 5.1 surround mix, a stereo mix and a mono version. All are in hi-res of course.

The blu-ray edition is scheduled for release on 27/28th April 2015.

Track listing:
1. Wouldn't It Be Nice
2. You Still Believe In Me
3. That's Not Me
4. Don't Talk (Put Your Head On My Shoulder)
5. I'm Waiting For The Day
6. Let's Go Away For Awhile
7. Sloop John B
8. God Only Knows
9. I Know There's An Answer
10. Here Today
11. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
12. Pet Sounds
13. Caroline No
14. Unreleased Backgrounds
15. Hang On To Your Ego
16. Trombone Dixie

That might be a go too. I don't think my Blu-ray 3-D player will play SACD's though. I'd love to have those Analogue stereo vinyl albums but I'd have to upgrade my system to fully appreciate them!

Well, I'll save my pennies and I'll save my dimes!  Alan, you got a player for the SACD?

What's with the unused intro for Don't Talk? Is that the a Capella wall of Brian's thing to show the string players or is this a completely new thing?

Hey Mikie - I use a Pioneer Blu Ray Player which is capable of playing SACDs; the model is BDP-150, which is probably now supersceded.

It cost me $150 (probs 100 of your Gringo $). I also have a Sony Bluie that plays SACD that cost similar.  Peeps with more money than me have been known to spend $2k to $20k on SACD only players

I pump the Pioneer through a seperate DAC, as the onboard DACs are one of the many items where costs were cut.

If you have a Sony, Oppo or Pioneer Bluie player, look for the SACD logo amongst all the Dolby etc logos.
If you see it, happy days!

This one is 300 Gringo:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Home/Blu-ray-Disc/Elite-Blu-ray-Disc-Players/BDP-80FD

In the meantime, the Analogue Production SACDs are hybrid, so they also have a red book (CD) layer which will play back on pretty much any Blu Ray player, DVD or CD player; and will showcase the KG mastering nicely. WIN/WIN!

Just guessin', nothing to back this up, but I would probably get the A/P stereo vinyl (where they are Chuck mixes) sooner rather than later as they seem pretty popular and may sell out.

This is being rescheduled to align with the 50th anniversary of the original album, so look for it in 2016.

An SACD version and a Blu-ray version.  Don't forget this album is already available in high-resolution on HDTracks.  And didn't the 40th anniversary edition also come with a 24-bit DVD mastering?  Anybody want to compare if these even sound different?

Awesome! I remember when PS was released in 5.1 some years back on DVD (Clear disc). That was ace, and I'm sure this new release will be.

Was the stereo mix ever pressed on vinyl? (not the duophonic)

With all the reissues one would think that would be a nobrainer

Yes, it was in 2006 for the 40th anniversary.  Two discs: Mono - Yellow, Stereo - Green.

I've got a copy and I love it.

Anyone know about this upcoming STEREO Pet Sounds vinyl pressing? Haven't seen anyone mention it yet. Comes out 1/8/16 by Analog Productions...200 grams and it's Linett's mix. $30.
