This was the winner of a fan contest last year - you could submit a music video for the song to Tongal. I submitted one  Tongue

You really like this? I think it's just one more example of how some cliché gets stuck so hard in the mind of whoever-did-this that the point of the song and the "spiritual aspect" (for lack of a better word) is totally missed.

And, but that's another topic and has nothing to do with the video, I don't like the obvious cuts in the song. Like Brian's "like most days". Of course they tried to get as much Brian into it as possible but that part is so out of rhythm and ruhsed that it sounds just terrible to my ears. It's like Brian doing some fun ad-libbing during recording but not as part of the song.

a diseased bunch of mo'fos if there ever was one… their beauty is so awesome that listening to them at their best is like being in some vast dream cathedral decorated with a thousand gleaming American pop culture icons.

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

You must dislike quite a few Brian Wilson compositions if you can't handle metric discontinuity. That opening vocal nuance has got to be the most interesting and fun part of an otherwise tiring arrangement.

Just my humble opinion: Even if you consider it interesting and fun, the point is that it doesn't even seem like it was meant to be there, and that's why it sticks out; more of a wacky ad lib that in all likelihood wouldn't have been in the final version of the song, had it been released at the time it was recorded. I'm all for more Brian content when possible, but this doesn't quite work to my ears if this is to be the final, "official" version of the song.

Mind you, I really like a lot of the MIC "Sail Plane Song" psychedelic additions they did, which play like BB fan fiction, but still sound cool - but it's because the proper untouched version of the song was previously officially released.

do you also dislike the laughing at the beginning of Little Pad? or the last line of I'd Love Just Once to See You?
I cherish these fun and/or ad-libbed bits by Brian. they're quirky as hell, just like the man himself, and a peek into his one-of-a-kind mind and sense of humor. the "like most days" line fits perfectly to my ears.

whereas I really can't stand those effects that were added to Sail Plane Song. completely uncalled-for, and completely un-Brian.

to each their own I suppose.

I don't mind any of the laughing on Little Pad or the last line of I'd Love Just Once to See You, because I think it was the artist's intention for those parts to be on those songs. I really doubt (just my opinion) that the "like most days" Brian ad lib was going to be present on the final version of that song; IMO, it just doesn't fit, and seems like it was a deliberate attempt by the set's compilers (who I have lots of respect for, not intended as a diss) to simply interject more scraps of recorded Brian-isms into the songs whenever possible, because it's assumed that fans want that.

Having heard the Carl-sung version of the song (with Carl, not Brian, singing the intro vocals), I think the absence of the "like most days" Brian ad lib makes the song better, and I imagine it would have been released like that if the song had been on an album in '78 or so. If the Carl version had been officially released, I'd have no complaints, since the Brian ad lib would simply be an alternate version, and alternate versions of previously-released songs are always welcome in my book.

The Sail Plane Song effects are interesting in that I believe the intent was to approximate a sound that Brian may have been going for around that time, had he been emotionally inclined to be able to finish more material in that era beyond the demo stage. I do wonder if Brian had any input in the effects that were put onto the song - if the effects were in any way based on his suggestions of what he might have tried to achieve (or at least the sounds, however unrecorded, that he was hearing in his head at the time), or if they were entirely, 100% fan-fiction by the set's compilers. I'd tend to think the former, but that's just a guess.

But I'm glad the alternate Sail Plane Song version exists, since it's more BB material to digest; we already have the proper, unmolested version of Sail Plane Song on Endless Harmony. Not so for California Feelin'.

Ahh, so you've appointed yourself to be the spelling police for this board( among other offices)?
Perhaps it would be better for you  to get some remedial training prior to attempting to correct the typing slips/spelling errors of others:

The exact same thing goes on in a car forum that I post on.  Some people like to use GM's bailout for reason to not like a certain car they make.  Yeah ok, fine that's your opinion.  But bringing it up every time a new GM product comes out is ridiculous.  The mods stepped in and started issuing warnings and if you still kept it up guess what?  You're gone.
Proper english for the yellow would be " The exact same thing goes on in a car forum on which I post"
The red should properly be "a reason"  or "the reason"
The green...  who is referenced as "you"?  The man in the moon? Everyone? No-One?    Or perhaps you were trying for a sexual joke?

Come back when you grow up kid....

Mikie corrects you all the time, I don't see you saying anything to him. Cincinnati Kid was just trying to be humorous. Isn't it what you do on a daily basis too here? So-called "smart" jokes? Don't be such a hypocrite.
