In my books that i own about the Beach Boys it say's that Dennis came back from Surfin and told Mike and Brian to write a song about Surfin!

The Morgans asked for original material at an audition in summer 1961, and Dennis told them Brian had a song about surfing. They didn't, of course, but by the next audition, they did !

You're misremembering Mike telling Brian they should write a song about surfing after coming back from a day spent doing same at Trestles in summer 1968, I think.

It's an autobiographical song about writing their first hit. Ironically, it wasn't a hit.

hi surfer,  checking in, we are all keeping an eye on you, your doing fine.  This is a friendly place, for friends.  Some of those books however make stuff up.  One book will say one thing, then the next one will say something different.  Dennis, no matter what you have read came up with the IDEA of doing a surfin' song.  That's why I picked this quote of yours, this is the right one, but only for the 1961 song called "Surfin'."  Everybody here is trying to lead you toward the truth.  The other song you mention was written in 1968, not so much about surfin', but just getting together with old friends and having a good time.  That's "Do It Again."   Hope you are watching BAD/Beck on tv right now, I am.  Let me pause a moment to listen and I'll be right back.  Got it on the dvr, all's well.  Okay, I don't really think Mike ever even surfed, but that doesn't mean you can't write a song about surfin' or about getting together with old friends.  One more time to be clear.  Dennis had nothing to do with the song called "Do It Again," not even the idea to write it.  It's getting late, and i'm off to bed.  You take care of you and yours. We will chat again soon.

I know Do it Again was written in 1968!  In 1961 this happend Dennis came back from Surfin and told Mike and Brian to write a song about Surfin!

I require clarification on Dennis telling Mike and Brian that they should rite a song about Surfin!

No, but seriously Surfer, Mike and Brian were most likely the people who came up with the idea behind their other surfing songs after Dennis suggested the idea behind "Surfin'" in 1961. Despite Brian not being a surfer and Mike seemingly only having a mild interest in it, they were known as a surf music group after "Surfin'" in 1961 and probably kept writing about surfing because it was what they were known for.

Okay, now I get it - similar to the day that Carl came back from Shut Down and told Brian and Mike to write a song about Shut Down.

Or the time Al came back from the chiropodist and told Brian and Gary to write a song about foot welfare.

Honestly, I think this question is a perfect example of something that goes under Thread for various insignificant questions that don't deserve their own thread...I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

Not trying to cause a fuss, just giving ideas for simpler ways of doing this on the board.
