When do you guys think the promotional campaign will get underway...if there'll be any at all? If this really is for average fans too, they'd better get some advertising going soon.

God must’ve smiled the day Brian Wilson was born!

M*A*S*H* rules them all. The first three, or even six, seasons are excellent. And on the dvd you can turn off the laugh track and it becomes a much better show. I'm gonna go watch some season two right now!

A lot of the songs that Brian recorded during his solo career like "She Says That She Needs Me," "Soul Searchin'," "California Feelin'" in their Beach Boys incarnations. I've heard low quality bootleg versions on the internet but it will be great to finally own official and good sounding versions. Also, on the live disc, I'm looking forward to "Help Me, Rhonda," "Sail On, Sailor," and "Wild Honey" with Dennis, Carl, and Blondie Chaplin on lead vocals respectively, the original version of "Back Home," "It's a Beautiful Day," which is a song I've always really liked but again, never had an official copy of, the Lei'd in Hawaii outtakes, the 1964 BBC session, and "You've Lost That Loving Feeling" is one I'm especially looking forward to. This is going to be such a great set.

That's gonna be cool, For me, Barnyard Blues because I know nothing about it other than it's a Dennis song.

Nah, this thread was screwed from the start.
Personally, I can't wait to hear the 1974 Brian demo of California Feeling. But at the same time, I'm almost afraid to. Hearing this just might make us totally re-evaluate the way we currently understand the "evolution" of how the young sounding Brian from 1973 turned into the gruff, overweight Brian of 1976. It will almost certainly "queer the pitch", as they say.

I'm with ya. The guy from the board who said he heard it last year said it almost didn't sound like him. Should definitely be interesting to hear where his range / breath control was at. Do we have any other high quality studio vocals of Brian from '74 (other than the spoken bit on Child Of Winter)?

I thought that the California Feeling demo was supposed to be the last known recording of Brian in 100% "original voice"?

Hold on. That California Feelin' won't be the Brian version will it?
From the looks of it, the demo version on disc 6 will be the one you're after.
Going to be interesting to hear what was going on with Brian's voice on this one for sure.

There's a nice handful that I'm looking forward to hearing. At the top of list is the demo of "California Feelin'" just because its probably been eight or nine years since I started wishing I could hear it. A 1974 Brian Wilson solo performance...yes. I'm also intrigued to hear the version of "California Feelin'" which comes from the
L.A. (Light Album)
sessions. Yes, we've heard it on boots before, but the press for the box says the song features a lead from Carl, Bruce, and
Brian
, so I'm intrigued to see if this one is any different from the one on the boots.
I'm also really looking forward to "Where Is She?" because it's
Sunflower
-era Brian, with a Brian lead vocal. And Alan Boyd had good things to say about it, and it seems like he knows his stuff. And it's supposedly a waltz. And I love Brian's late '60s waltzes, so I imagine this should be great as well.
Otherwise, I'm super excited for the live "Wild Honey" with the lead vocal by Blondie, the 1963 "Back Home", and "Barnyard Blues" because it's supposedly a Dennis/Carl co-write from the '70s. Lastly, I'm excited about "Soul Searchin'" and especially "You're Still A Mystery" because it'll be great to have them in great quality and it will also be interesting to see if they are basically the same as the leaked versions or if they are a bit different.

I'm kind of hoping that Soul Searchin and You're Still A Mystery will have the unbooted backing tracks. In other words, I hope they sound like the versions Carl heard and rejected. They may very well suck, but it'll give us a better understand of the aborted 1996 sessions.

I know the box is expensive but when I think about the $£$£ I've forked over on boots it doesn't seem so bad when you think about what we are getting. "Where is She" is very intriguing. To hear a unheard Brian vocal from that era, I can't wait.

Me too! Will be a rockin' version, I'm sure and probably has the 'Oh mama, she's sweeter'-part. The well-known video with Blondie singing WH misses this part.

Family Guy for the win.......
Now can we get back on topic?
Family Guy is great, yes (or at least it
was
), however it loses points due to the fact that everything else Seth Macfarlane has done is utterly average: American Dad, the Cleveland Show, that Oscars hosting gig, Ted (which had about 3 or 4 funny moments in it, surrounded by lazy post-modern 'jokes' ('haha yes, that's
just
like that bit in Airplane, haha and that's
just
like that bit in Flash Gordon, etc.'), endless self-referencing and the bizarre notion that someone saying 'c**t' is funny in and of itself).

"Fawlty Towers" - we win.
Hm. Good try.
But the U.S. had
Cheers.
Unsurpassable.
Cheers isn't even the best US sitcom with Kelsey Grammer in it, let alone the best US sitcom, let alone the best sitcom. Fawlty Towers really is pretty unbeatable, however I will concede that Curb Your Enthusiasm is frequently mind-bogglingly hilarious (and greatly benefits from
not
having one of those annoying 'laughter' tracks that litter US sitcoms, in which the audience members seem to do nothing but whoop and cheer for half an hour).
What about Arrested Development?
Of course, I am biased. Just look at my profile photo.
Yeah, almost on par with Seinfeld IMO. We should discuss season 4 in the sandbox!

Be Here Now
is the most underrated album of the past 25 years. A crying shame. So much effort went into the making of it, so much subtlety, and the lyrics are on a par with those of Dylan, Cohen, Cale, and even Donne, in places.
Oh f*** no - Eeyore writes lyrics too ?
I actually agree, Be here Now is an amazing LP - it's filled with in-your-face catchy tunes. I really never listen to lyrics, so wouldn't know, but in terms of melody it's a winner.

As one of the moderators asked people to get back on topic, wouldn't it be more respectful to stop talking about dull tosspots like Oasis and start talking about this box set again?
