I bought it after reading Catch A Wave a few years ago and I love it so much. The songwriting, the atmosphere, the humor; it's a really great record. If you get into Randy Newman, you should also get the self titled, 12 Songs, Good Old Boys, Live and Nilsson Sings Newman. I liked Harps and Angels too, and Little Criminals is alright. While there are a few good songs in about every release, I didn't really care for the stuff in the '80s or '90s and am not really into the movie soundtracks. I really love that run of albums in the '70s though.

It's not even his best!

That honour belongs to Good Old Boys. But you can listen to Sail Away on the bus....

I love Randy Newman. IMO you could do worse than pick up everything up to Littlle Criminals (he gets way malicious after that - the caveat being, his targets seem less obvious or more futile than the prior records. Harps And Angels is a good un, though)

Definitely my favorite Randy Newman album.  The title track is one of the greatest songs ever written, IMO.

Definitely my favourite Randy Newman LP too.

I have such mixed feelings towards R. N.- so many of his songs are great, and so many of them leave me scratching my head, wondering if I'm not getting the point of a song, or whether there isn't all that much to get. For me, Sail Away is about the only album of his that is all great songs all the way through. (Even if I don't understand the significance of the lyrics of "Last Night I Had A Dream", it's still a great tune).

I love most of 12 Songs, Good Old Boys, Little Criminals, Land of Dreams and Bad Love too. Harps and Angels was such a disappointment after all the hype, I gave my copy away.

I was really surprised how great Harps and Angels was. Probably my favourite Randy album since Good Old Boys

I liked it, too. It's not in the category his early albums, every one of which I think is truly a great album, but it's definitely a good one.

The title song on Sail Away leaves me scratching my head - it makes such a profound statement, but I'm left wondering whether I should enjoy it for it's beautiful arrangement or for it's social statement (I guess one could do both...but then it confuses my brain haha).

Old Man and Burn On are two of my favorite songs. Such a great album.
