Do you like other Talking Heads stuff? I've listened to '77 a few times, but More Songs About Buildings and Food definitely gets the most plays out of me.

Do you like other Talking Heads stuff? I've listened to '77 a few times, but More Songs About Buildings and Food definitely gets the most plays out of me.

I've heard Remain in Light but the only one of its tracks that really moves me is "Once In A Lifetime"----to say nothing of the video.

I abandoned '77 after four tracks but I'm really into MSABAF (about halfway through now). It certainly benefits from Eno's production and the more dance-based approach. But the songs grab me more as well. On "Artists Only" there's a short drum fill which Byrne sings along with----fantastic! (Here at 1:25.)

Mari was the one who pointed me in that direction. Right now I can't honestly say which of the three Eno-produced albums I like best. Perhaps I like them all. :=)

I've been listening to a lot of Jimmy Buffett and other assorted summertime / Bob Marley / etc rock/pop/trop country.   It's been a stressful summer, so it's really helping me center.   Even though fall starts tomorrow, we're still going to have summer weather through the weekend, so I'm planning on grilling some burgers, and having some beers with some Buffett playing this Saturday.

I've been listening to a band led by Vinnie Vincent, whom I discovered was the guitarist with Dan Hartman on his disco hits "Instant Replay" and "This Is It". Quite a character too, as was Dan Hartman. But unlike Hartman, Vincent hasn't always been the easiest person to get on with. He was with KISS for a while (until they fired him). This is "Boyz Are Gonna Rock" from the debut album by the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, who surely qualify as a "hair band":

Nervous Breakdown, Somethin' Else, Twenty Flight Rock, C'mon Everybody, Jeanie Jeanie Jeanie, Little Angel, Summertime Blues, Three Steps To Heaven, Weekend, My Way, Cut Across Shorty, Lonely, Teenage Heaven, Drive In Show, Sittin' In The Balcony, Skinny Jim, Blue Suede Shoes, Hallelujah I Love Her So, Rock and Roll Blues, Three Stars...

You have excellent taste! As I see it, Eddie was one of rock'n'roll's two great raconteurs (the other being Chuck Berry). Although Chuck's stories are absolutely ace, they're aimed more at an older generation (Chuck was approaching 30 when "Maybellene" hit). Eddie was singing for the kids. Seems he's was a sweet person as well. There are stories of him patiently helping budding guitarists to get their hands (and heads) round chords when on that fateful tour in the UK.

One of the first records I ever bought was an EP called Cherished Memories of Eddie Cochran:

Yeah, Twenty Flight Rock has particularly fascinated me. It's not a song that I hadn't heard before, but I feel like I'm hearing it for the first time...every time.

I picked up the 4-disc, 134 track 'The Eddie Cochran Story' when it was released in 2009. Up to that point, I was aware of his music but hadn't really listened to it. I'm finally digging in now.

Next up from the collection (which spans a good many decades) is Sibelius's compact (one-movement) Seventh Symphony, his last in that genre and almost his final work. He composed nothing during his last thirty years, something he shares with (of all people) Captain Beefheart.

"You're So Vain" is a fantastic song, beginning with the awesome bass flourishes care of Klaus Voormann. (And it's Mick Jagger's finest hour.) Klaus was explaining in the recent BBC documentary about Carly's album No Secrets that he was just "warming up his fingers". Having learned to play classical guitar, it came very easily to him. Producer Richard Perry insisted it should be the intro to the song! Hearing it for the first time back in 1972 was a bona fide WTF moment, like first hearing Entwistle's solo on "My Generation"...

Turtle Soup, the latest version.  Those guys really sang their asses off and also were a pretty good band.  I don't know why they don't get more credit than they do....maybe the Flo and Eddie "comedy" act hurt their credibility in the long run....

I've been listening a lot of The Peanut Butter Conspiracy and Grapefruit.
There's a song by Grapefruit called "Lullaby" which was written by Lennon/McCartney for Sgt. Peppers, and originally called Circus Sgt. Peppers... Great stuff, it would be amazing to hear The Beatles' version of it, unfortunately I believe they never recorded it.
