for instance, the lyrics of "Don't Go Near the Water" mixed with the backing track of "Wouldn't It Be Nice".

Now, that's an idea! Cabin Essence and Kokomo seem to fit, with Denny's "truck drivin' man" chant replaced with the list of islands from Kokomo chorus.

It's not really a mash-up in this sense of the word, but I've mixed a loop of the drum intro to "Getcha Back" with the drumless backing track of "Do It Again" before and that worked really well.

I don't know if the actual keys fit, but you could mash these / or sing the melody of the first over the second:: Had To Phone Ya with Trombone Dixie You can sing alot of Don't Worry Baby over Pet Sounds I heard the Brian's Band once play (with Darian on vibes?) the melody of Surf's Up over Caroline, No And I also heard a mix with the horn melody that's between the verses of Heroes & Villains, and Barnyard. Fits really well. A great mash up with Barry White: Wouldn't It Be Nice To Be The First http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2g4TR7H3aCA&t=1s

I did a slight mashup of 'Don't Worry Baby', 'Hushabye', and 'Don't Talk' a couple years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4E3IZQnkI5kI was listening to a lot of the Beatle's LOVE album and wanted to try a mashup. It's really not that good, but it does have potential - I do like the instrumental break section a lot. Two weeks ago I tinkered with putting the vocals of WIBN over Do You Like Worms - It actually sounded really good! With a bit of tweaking and editing, there's a lot of potential for good mashups in the Beach Boys catalogue.

Whenever I play Darlin' on the piano (slowly, because I sucks at piano), I go into the GOK fade at the end for some reason - they seem to slot together quite well!
Wonder if The Beach Boys would ever consider a Love-esque project?

All roads lead to Kokomo. Exhaustive research in time travel has conclusively proven that there is no alternate universe WITHOUT Kokomo. It would've happened regardless.
What is this "life" thing you speak of ?
Syncopate it? In front of all these people?!

With the diversity of styles they had throughout the years, that would be a fascinating project. I'd imagine it to sound a little bit like that Daddy Dear/Little One mix that someone done with samples of harmony and music playing in the background, only tighter. Then again, I could also hear it being 90 minutes of the surf hits all fused together with Summer of Love..

I remember when "Love" came out, Brian was talking about being interested in doing something similar with the Beach Boys' songs.

another thing that would be interesting would be to mash up two songs from different eras. Like the lyrics of surfer girl to the backing track of "Sail on Sailor".

I'd normally discourage even more Beach Boys compilations coming out, but that sounds cool as f***.

How there hasn't been a remix album for The Beach Boys done by various indie darlings I'll never know -- I mean, The Free Design got such an album!

I think their stuff might be hard to mashup without having the discrete tracks.
As far as putting one song's vocals over another's instrumental... It would be hard with the Beach Boys, because so many of the songs have complex harmonies & melodies that just wouldn't work over any other track but the original. Some of the early surf stuff might work.. but even those are more complex than one would think.

That's a great idea! Here's a demo of it (a lot of timeflexing and clipping so it sounds kinda iffy). http://soundcloud.com/robert-borszich/wouldnt-it-be-worms/s-BWXCJ

"Breakaway" and "Some of Your Love", although I'm not sure what the point would be exactly. They'd work well in a live medley form due to their similar tempo and groove.

Add Some Music and Feel Flows (chopping off the intro to the latter and starting straight with Carl's vocal)

Solar System and Friends. These two sound very different at first, but listening more carefully you can hear that their constructions are very similar, the 3/4 time and chords progressions. Even the "let's be friends..." and the "the constellations are stars..." parts sound alike.

even though they're from different groups I for some reason see "Because" by the Beatles going together with "In My Room".
