"Good Vibrations" Alternate Edit 8-24-66 Question

Is the "Alternate Edit 8-24-66" version of "Good Vibrations" really a version that Brian had worked out in 1966 or was it something that Mark Linnett and Alan Boyd put together?

To me it seems to resemble the BWPS version of "Good Vibrations" in that it has the Tony Asher verse lyrics while also having the Mike Love chorus and the "hum be da" vocals. My assumption is that this version made have been put together by Mark and Alan so they could use this on the "album" portion of the collection, but instead they ended up using the Mike Love verse lyrics, a "hum be da" vocal section, and an extended ending. But instead of trashing the "8-24-66" edit, they decided to stick it near the end of the box.

Anyways, it seems like if they took the time to make this version for the box set, which is honestly unnecessary, why wouldn't they also make an edit of "Heroes And Villains" that included the first verse, followed by "I'm In Great Shape", and then with "Barnyard" worked in there, just like Brian's demonstrated to Humble Harve. I know it wouldn't have been an authentic 1966/1967 Brian edit, but then again, neither is that "Good Vibrations" edit, I think.

Yes, it was assembled by them. The version of Vibes is the one we call the Rarities mix (cuz it was on the 1983 RARITIES LP) and originally on the BEST SUMMERS OF OUR LIVES radio bio. They spliced in the verses from another section that has been around forever. SMILE-philes have been making this edit forever, starting with the first SMILE boot in 83.

Hmm, if it was indeed assembled by them, and wasn't included in the "album" section, I kinda don't understand what the point for it to be on the box set was. I woulda preferred the longer instrumental mix of "Child Is Father Of The Man" or an assembly of "Heroes And Villains" like it described in the first post of this thread.
