Three of the discs are on the way to me from CD Banq, but after reading all the negative reviews concerning mixes, digital noises & overall sound quality, I feel lucky that I didn't order more discs from the series.

I hereby withdraw my request for Capitol to release any further Beach Boys archival CD's, box set etc.

Now, they can maintain the "Wall of Secrecy" until the end of time.

Are you serious Phil? Do you mean it? You really don't care if they put out any more material? You have the chance to recant, otherwise I just may feel like posting this every time you start complaining about the Cohen of Silence.

Why release anything more, if quality control during mastering and/or manufacturing is going to be mediocre? You guys fill me with dread and worry that I've just spent $106 to have 3 CD's sent from Taiwan, and what I'm going to receive next week may be loaded with crackles and other digital noises or distortion, due to careless mastering.  Am i supposed to jump for joy?

The crackles and clicks were put there to make it sound warm like vinylsss, Phil, and to also remind one of cooking bacon. Dick Rising called me and told me this a few days ago.

He also told me Capitol employees are coming to murder your family at night on August 29th OH NOOOOOOOO DAMN YOU CAPITOL

It's "Reising", and it has been long established that he was an actual person, who worked at Capitol Records for some years before The Beach Boys were signed to Capitol.

I hate to ask but, are you married Phil? I couldn't imagine how any person could put up with your horrible attitude. If you are this much of a bummer online, which to me constitutes something of an escape, and relieves me of day to day stress, then I can only imagine what a joy are you person to person.

Well, according to Phil there wasn't going to be a new BB album, nor a TSS box set, so take that for whatever it's worth. Yes, the constant pessimism is annoying as hell, but just do what I do and ignore it.

And, if the imports sound as bad as it seems, isn't everyone residing in the US glad now that they weren't released here first? Well, except those that imported them. Sorry guys Sad

Hope it's fixed by the next release.

There may still be time to fix the mastering problems(if they ARE mastering problems) before the discs are released here. Whether Capitol Records wants to make the effort remains to be seen.

Wouldn't be surprised if it is indeed fixed. That would explain why these initial releases came out before the 'official' word was out.

You guys are crazy.  You're jumping to conclusions based on what...three, four people's reports? Suddenly you've all decided these must be awful?

Still, online reports DO seem near unanimous that the stereo remix of "Smile Smile" does sound good, so my upcoming shipment shouldn't be a total loss.

Ban not only for deception, but for thinking uploading things to YouTube is the ideal way to share music.
I'd rather someone post a link that can be up for about two days, if only to pass time before the whole thing is uploaded.

My ideal way to get these remasters is for someone to fill those requests on what dot cd already.

Looking at these discussions from a distance is pretty hilarious.

After long droughts, in which nothing much of importance was released, in a pretty brief period we're so blessed...

...and complaints are raining from God's skies like in one of the Seven Plagues of Egypt.

That's the SSdotnet board for outsiders.

But it's good fun to this person (who, in his middle-aged wisdom, decided upon selective shopping re: all the new goodies).

Not for joy, but from a very tall bridge. That would end your negativity and your anger about life, believe me.

:D

That's the right attitude - accept whatever Capitol throws your way, especially if it's stereo in the form of the mono mix panned to the left channel and lawnmower noises for 30 minutes in the right channel.

It's actually around 200KB right now. I'm debating on whether I should delete the last copies of my dead mother's secret fruitberry cake recipe or this anime OVA.

A lot if the Pops and clicks that troubled me disappeared once I played the stuff on a proper system. The iTunes version was a different story but the discs.... Bloody marvellous!

This is the thing... you NEVER know whether what bothers some people about music, or audio quality, is going to bother YOU until you hear it and make your own decisions. I have seen so many people say 'oh, such-and-such release is riddled with clipping and sounds terrible' and then I've listened to it, on my decent-quality system and it sounds fine. Of course, my ears might be terrible and perhaps I'm missing all the problems. But as I'm never going to listen to it with any ears BUT my own, that makes it fine for all time as far as I'm concerned. The only person that can make that judgement, FOR me, IS me.

The most hilarious thing is when you see people on-line say 'it clicks, it's distorted, it clips - stay with your old CDs'... and then a few days later they say 'Oh, I played it through some better speakers/headphones and it's actually OK'. You cannot trust the word of anyone but yourself, listening on your own personal system/turntable/iPod/whatever, with this stuff.

Even if people list their kit, amps, headphones etc like they sometimes do on the Hoffman board, it's STILL no good, because you might hear it differently even with exactly the same kit.

Moral of the story - don't listen when someone says 'don't buy this, it sounds awful'. Note what they say, sure, but then listen yourself, THEN decide. And NEVER say 'three guys on SSnet listening to 128kbps rips on earbuds say it sucks - THAT'S IT, THERE'S NO WAY I'M BUYING IT EVAH!!! CANCEL MY ORDER!!!!!!!!!!'.

MattB

PS I ordered six of the Japanese discs, and they're currently held up in UK customs (I'm British), where they've attracted a further duty of (the UK pound equivalent of) around 11 dollars each. So by the end of this saga, I will have paid around 30 quid (about 47 US dollars) *per album*. More fool me, as they're now being released domestically. But I figured it was worth me putting my money down to check the sound of these remixes out for myself. The only consolation is: I will have them tomorrow. If they sound terrible to me, I will say so here, but I urge you all not to listen to me and to make your own minds up...!
