I think it would. Just going by the combined samples on amazon and itunes, I hear lots of great stuff, but I think that Spring Vacation would make a great follow-up single to TWGMTR. Classic Mike/Brian lead vocal trade off, fun vibe, modern sound. Could do well on AC radio, maybe even pop stations.
That being said, (again going by just the samples), I think my personal favorite is "From There To Back Again".

It's a little late for that.
Sounds like a likely single but the lyrics feel a little bit over the top.

Beaches in mind is the best second single IMO.

I think it should have been the first single, but since it wasn't, I'd definitely be okay with it being the second.

I can only think of one word to describe Spring Vacation and it starts with an "H" ...
HORRENDOUS!

Spring Vacation is a crap song and one does not need to be a musical expert to see this. Most of it boils down to the heinous lyrics.
This song will be placed over the fire when the album is released and the reviews show up.
And God forbid they even make it a B-side... what a calamity after a great song like TWGMTR.

I actually enjoy it more than TWGMTR and I think that song is fine. "Spring Vacation" isn't rockket science but neither was "Fun, Fun, Fun".

To me, "Spring Vacation" seems like a new "Summer of Love" albeit with a BW writing credit and some of the poor rhyming here isn't even worthy of "Belles of Paris".
I think "Shelter" might actually make a decent 2nd single.

I am with you on this. It is more of a Beach Boys type song than anything else on the album, including TWGMTR. I'll bet it is the next song we hear on AC stations this summer.

I don't like the tune (maybe it'll grow on me with the actual release and the months/years to come) - but I agree, I guess it would make a fairly good single.

I'm hoping to hear ANY of the songs on the radio. Heard "God/Radio" just once, on ESPN's Mike & Mike show. Figured the local AC/pop radio station would add it to their playlist, but no dice. Pop/Rock radio today is little more than endlessly playing songs over 20 years old over and over...

Agree with a lot of the sentiments about SV, although it's kind of a guilty pleasure for me - I like the chords of the verses.
My vote for 2nd single would go to Isn't It Time.

Yeah, 'Isn't it time' sounds great. It has a sort of 80s Beach Boys feel ('It's gettin' late' or something) but has that kind of plinky-plonk Brian rhythmic groove to it.

i wouldn't want this to be the second single at all, i find it very catchy, but no. It's not gonna be a hit, the boys aren't gonna have a hit, so there's no reason to put a song out just because it sounds like a single. I'd say put out the best next song.

It probably will be the second single.. but, a
good
second single ? this is as lame as Wipe Out, Summer Of Love and all of those things... it's gonna be Summer In Paradise all over again, except the rest of the album doesn't sound that terrible.

The record feels great. Better than TWGMTR to me.
I agree with the guy that said it should've been the 1st single. Talk about bad timing.
Unless they plan on stretching the album out until Spring 2013.

I think "Spring Vacation" is overly cliched and that "Shelter" should be the next single.

I agree- Shelter would be the best choice for a second single. It's the most contemporary sounding track, goes down smooth, and the chorus is catchy is hell.

Shelter sounds a lot less contemporary than Spring Vacation.

Yes, it's very catchy and personally I think it might appeal to both the fun-in-the-sun fans and the Mojo readers.
To me it sounds a bit like 80s Beach Boys, in a good way - and with more genuine BW involvement (sounds like he definitely wrote the verses and the bridge).

After we heard that little sound clip a few weeks ago - and hammered it - who would've thought it? But, based on the samples, "Spring Vacation" is the catchiest, and Brian is prominent on it. WE'VE heard the retro lyrics ad nauseum, but the casual fans have not. They might embrace them.
I like "That's Why God Made The Radio" a lot, but was it too hyped before we heard it? To name the album after it and have it as the lead off single? Like mentioned above, it might've been better to go "Spring Vacation", then "TWGMTR".

i still think i'd rather have the band put out an overall good song than just the catchiest, which spring vacation definitely is. The only reason you'd put out spring vacation is to try and have a hit, but that's not gonna happen. If they're gonna put out another single, i would rather it represent the best on the album. because most of the internet will only hear the singles, might as well show off the best to lure people to buy the album.

I don't know about a single, but it feels like the sort of thing which should go on a movie soundtrack during a montage or something. It sounds enough like Stunt-era Barenaked Ladies that I could see it working in sort of a romantic comedy or basically accomplish the same vibe that like "We Go Together" does at the end of Grease. That last comparison isn't a compliment, per se, but just a statement. I think it succeeds as what it's trying to be, a car-top down, summery smiley shiny wind-in-your-hair song. It's the track for which the crunchy Pro-Toolsy production seems the most appropriate to me.
If they made it a single, I wouldn't be upset, per se, because most of the rest of the album feels like deep cuts so far, but I wouldn't be enthusiastic about it, per se, unless it led new people to become fans. That's no worse in my mind than new fans being gained by grooving to something silly like "Dance Dance Dance". Whatever the gateway drug, I approve.
