Hey guys! I wanted to share with you a project I completed a couple months back.  It's called Adieu Or Die, and it's the result of me reworking a ton of The Beach Boys classics for about a year. I am a monster fan of the group, and I went on quite a journey putting this together. The music The Beach Boys created has touched me in a way not many other experiences have in my life. Ideally, I hope Adieu Or Die can serve as a means for certain people to prick their ears up about an often overlooked larger body of work from one of music’s most interesting groups, as well as a means for the long time fans with open minds to hear re-imagined versions of beloved songs. If just one person hears this and has their Beach Boys "canvas" broadened, then I'm satisfied. If they go out and buy Sunflower, Surf's Up, or any other classics that don't get as much attention that I feel they deserve, then I'm ecstatic. You can listen here -

This is a project that I hope some of you on here will enjoy. As someone who visits the board often, I'm aware that this place is diverse: old fans, new fans, young people, adults... all walks of life. Adieu Or Die utilizes certain production techniques that will immediately turn some of you off, and that's okay, I know it's not for everybody. I didn't want to let that stop me from introducing Adieu Or Die to those who may dig it, so here goes!

I truly hope some of you enjoy what you hear. The above images (and others) appear in the PDF booklet that comes with the download (link currently down momentarily - PM for download please). Thank you to everybody who has contributed to this board over the years!

I really dig the art - especially the cover (with the Wild Honey font!) and the 70s-era BB's in the Today! pose.

I like the drawings. But can you please add some more hair to Denny on the studio shot ?

Damn, I'm happy to hear that some of you on here like it!  And I thank you for letting me know.  I know how easy it can be to read threads, but not actually post in them.  I'm guilty of that myself.

Thanks, oldsurferdude!  I can honestly say that one of my favorite things as a Beach Boys fan is discovering long lost audio and video of the group.  Those moments when you watch footage that you can't believe you're seeing.  For me recently it was viewing in it's entirety "Going Platinum," the tv episode with Ben Fong-Torres of Rolling Stone hanging out with The Beach Boys while they were working on Keepin' The Summer Alive.  I had seen chunks of footage from this show for awhile, but hadn't seen the whole thing until not long ago.  We spend so much time listening to the amazing music that it can be an excellent trip seeing footage from a certain time or era.

I'm happy you found the sound bytes to be dreamy.  I watched so much footage and listened to so much audio of The Beach Boys in the past year that they began to influence my dreams.  Some of those dreams found me time traveling back to the early to mid Seventies to visit the boys in the studio, trying to explain the concept of Adieu Or Die to them to receive their blessings.  Since my studio is in my house, sometimes I'd wake up and start recording right away, still in a hazy dream state where I was hanging out with the band.  My fondest memory of a moment like that was waking up and recording the odd synth / sitar melody on At The Roller Rink almost instantaneously.

I don't typically like this type of music, but you did a really good job regardless and should be commended for your dedication. Nice work.

Dialation is really beautiful. Are you supposed to listen to this whilst stoned? Thanks for sharing your art with us. I'm duly impressed.

Thanks, krabklaw!  Dialation was the first track I put together for the project, and it remains one of my favorites.  And if you want to listen to it stoned, then by god listen to it stoned!  It will hopefully take you to a nice place.  However, it's certainly not a requirement.  Ultimately I'd like people to listen to it in the environment and state they are most comfortable listening to music in.  I know there are so many distractions out there today.  It would be easy to listen to this with your Itunes open and 8 web browsing tabs open, but like Brian Wilson recommends with Pet Sounds, listening with headphones in the dark may just be the way to go!

lovin' the drawings too, especially the two versions of Today! LOL

what's the closest the Beach Boys ever got to reenacting an older pose a la The Beatles?

Good call, metal flake paint! I was trying hard to think of an example of re-shot or similar Beach Boys photos, but was drawing a blank.  I thought there was a newer picture of the guys all holding a surfboard, as a throw back to the Surfer Girl shot, but maybe I imagined it!

This might be stretching things but the guys were pictured holding a surfboard circa '84 with that other king of surf, Julio Inglesias Razz

Then there was the Baywatch incident...

What a perfect fusion of modern hip-hop and the Beach Boys music!  I hope you do more.  I especially enjoy Wild Honey Bee, 30 Days Later, Run Wild, and 747.  By the way, could you put up a new download link?  The old one seems to have expired.

Wow, thanks for resurrecting this thread, Bedroom Tapes! Glad you have enjoyed it. I'm working on getting a new download link up. Until then, how about you PM me your email and I'll shoot it right over to you. Anybody else reading this can feel free to do the same, as well... Take care!

Just wanted to add my appreciation Will. I've listened to this album dozens of times. It even helped sparked some of my interest in electronic music. There is a lot of humor in there as well, which I think Brian would appreciate. Thanks for sharing this with us.
