Couldn't resist putting this out here : The Beatles - The Next Generation (James McCartney, Dhani Harrison, Sean Lennon and Jason/Zak Starkey) - discuss...

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/the-beatles/9182864/The-Beatles-2-Sir-Paul-McCartneys-son-James-hints-at-next-generation-of-band.html

And here's critic David Hepworth's take on it :

http://wordmagazine.co.uk/content/five-reasons-why-the-beatles-sons-forming-beatles-2-has-got-to-happen

I'll start  by saying that while I don't think it's the best idea in the world, I'd be interested to hear the music they could make...

I think it's a fun idea and could yield something interesting... However they should avoid calling themselves The Beatles 2 or any variation therein.

Well, if they attempt to make some original/creative/beautiful music I can't complain.

But, if it's all about money, then I'll laugh when the music turns out to be shite.

Don't think it'll work out (with an actual recording et cetera). Kind of a cool idea, but that's it. Musically Harrison and Lennon are doing fine on their own.

No...But most people with money, no matter the amount, want to keep making more.

Sons Of The Beatles

Julian needs to be in there too!

I know but Paul is so insanely rich at this point.

I don't really think McCartney makes music simply to make more money. Really, he's been sitting on money-generating publishing rights for over 30 years and he's made plenty of records in that time. I think it's more human nature to do work because you enjoy it - we are taught very early on though that such a thing is inconceivable.

Actually, I believe Paul  didn't give any of his money to his kids. Julian doesn't have much either, I think.

Julian I think has had a rough time with the Lennon estate.  This says that it would be Sean, though.  Sean is of course very close with his mother who essentially (and rightfully so) has all John's money, so Sean is filthy rich.

I think it's a good idea if they want to do it... they've been living with this huge cloud over their head their entire lives, to NOT try to make an album or something would take more mental effort than to try it since they're all talented musicians in their own right.

There's no reason they shouldn't, if they all get along and are down with it.  Why not?

Personally though I hope they keep it light and don't try to change the world with it.  Would I listen to a pop song the Beatle's 20something kids made?

YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT

If by talent you mean FM radio appeal, then yes.

Sean's music is more thoughtful, I think. More interesting musically.

Nope. Sean is good, too. Same geos for Dhani Harrison.

Even if they got together - I doubt they'd be allowed to call themselves something with "Beatles" in the title. And probably they wouldn't want to. They'd go for another name that somehow refers to their fathers, like The Walruses. Or something.

I just remember how Howard Stern used to make fun of Sean's music and read his lyrics on the air. Dreadful stuff back then but that was a long time ago.

This is such a clusterfuck. No one was suggesting -- least of all James M. -- that the sons get together to play Beatles music. No one was actually suggesting they call themselves Beatles 2. The fact the media is chewing him out over this is disgraceful.

The facts are that the kids get along, and they all play music. Why wouldn't it be fun to hear what they could do?

Really they should put it out the way that the Flaming Lips did their Imogene Piese album. Put it out under a weird name - unattached to anything to do with any of them with no allusion whatsoever to who really made the music.

Yeah, that in and of itself isn't bad - it's just marketing it as 'The Beatles 2: Electric Boogaloo' would nullify any good intentions they had. They should go anonymous, release it under a bad name and hire 4 hapless dudes to go and do their press for them.

A response which suggests it was a remark taken out of context :
