True. Shame about the guys who played Brian, Carl, Dennis, Mike, Alan, David, but most of all the retards who actually wrote the damn thing.

I think somebody put the wrong video cover on the IMDb page.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100715/

I've never seen it and although it sounds like it's terrible, Bruce Greenwood who plays Dennis is a great character actor, one of those guys who's never really made a name for himself but certainly has no problem finding work.  I'd be interested in seeing it, if only for his performance.

He actually just did an interview for the AV Club today.  He mentioned "Summer Dreams" being a lucky break for him but he didn't give much insight on playing Dennis Wilson.

Greenwood kills in just about everything I've seen him in. eXistenZ, Star Trek, Sweet Hereafter, even The Bikini Shop!

It's a legit site for sure. It will give you multiple links for the movie, the 'putlocker.com' links usually work the best in my experience. I think they have both the ABC movie and the one you're looking for.

i just finished watching it lol..there's so many mistakes in this movie idk where to start lol
they said brian listened to sgt. pepper all the time lol..i thought it was rubber soul that he was hooked on lol
then dennis referred to the surfing, car, girl songs as oldies..this was supposedly 1967 when he said this in the movie(made no sense)...wow you seen the girl who played marilyn lol...they didnt even show brian creating pet sounds..wtf!.....look at their beards...lol..i might be late but wow this movie is more like a spoof.

Ah yes, the fake-beards movie.  Grin  Casey Sander (the actor that played Mike role) was a good young Mike Love look-a-like though...

Hiya Andrew -

actually, I like that movie. IMHO it must be seen as a cult item, something that is so bad it becomes good for precisely that reason. It is the 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' (Ed Wood jr.), or the 'The Incredible Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed-Up Zombies' (Ray Dennis Steckler) for discerning Beach Boys aficionados. A must-see for all the wrong reasons, best enjoyed in the company of fellow fans, and with a generous supply of beer and crisps. Now I give the word to Bret Wheadon, owner of the www.beachboys.com website:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"REVIEW: If Looking Back With Love is your idea of a good Beach Boys album, then have I got the movie for you.  Summer Dreams has so many bad elements it's hard to know where to begin.  For one thing, where else can you find a movie that has achieved a degree of infamy for it's facial hair?  The fake beards here look like they were swiped from the Planet of the Apes.  Then there's the fact-impared script; derived from Steven Gaines' book Heroes and Villains, this should tip any curious viewer right off the bat that this is not going to be Masterpiece Theatre.  The film takes the point of view that Dennis was the most interesting Beach Boy, and is told from his point of view.  We see the young, 35-year-old 'teenage' Wilsons cavorting about on the beach, at home with Father (the perfectly-cast Arlen Dean Snyder as Murray) and starting their own band.  We see Sensitive Brian, the Chubby, Quiet Carl, the Hunky Wildboy Dennis (played with aplomb by Bruce Greenwood), the Balding Mike and that Other Guy all shuffling around making great music.  Then... Brian gets psychedelic!  Mike gets a beard!  Then they all get beards!  Dennis sings a song that he never wrote!  Then it's 1985 and everyone joins in for the 4th of July at the Nation's Capitol.  Inspiring!  Ugh.  A couple of the actors manage to capture some of the essence of the characters they portray, but on the whole, this is is Grade-C government process cheeze-whiz, and a poor introduction to a complex band."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

See?

I've encountered MANY fans that consider Dennis to be the most interesting Beach Boy.

Well, AGD, Steve Dahl was one of those retards. It kind of explains a lot, actually. I did curiously note that when they re-showed it a few years after the original airing, his name vanished from the credits.

As ridiculous as SUMMER DREAMS is, I think the portrayal of "Brian" is a lot closer to the real thing than what we're treated to in AN AMERICAN FAMILY.

I agree but it isn't a hard task really, Brian's portrayal in An American Family is insulting to say the least although that film has a really nice period atmosphere.
