That Maroon 5 douchebag doesn't even have the moves of the Lovester!
Some idiotic and desperate record company guy thought this up, no doubt.
BUT, I don't blame the Beach Boys for going along with it.

I couldn't care less who shares the stage with the Beach Boys; the fact that the band is going to be making *any* appearance at all is good enough. For those of you who are expecting half the show to be dedicated to the Beach Boys, please return back to Earth. The Boys will get a few minutes tops of airtime. That's better than nothing. And I strongly doubt they'll be playing anything more obscure than "Help Me, Rhonda".

Like everyone, I was hoping that they would get a solo slot, but since this is standard Grammy protocol, I'm not overly surprised.
As for the bands joining them, I actually kinda like Maroon 5 (his voice doesn't bug me, although I can see how it might annoy others). I can't stand "Pumped Up Kicks," it's one of those songs that just grates on me. Granted, I haven't heard any of their other tunes though, so I'll withhold judgment on them.
At the end of the day, I think that the whole thing will work out alright - each band does a bit of one of their own songs, then they all join in for a Beach Boys classic, or possibly a medley. I'm still psyched, even if it wasn't what I originally hoped for.

This gives me a SLIGHT hope that they might do more than one song. Probably two songs: one all by themselves, giving them the spotlight and then the second with the guests coming on stage to join them.

Yeah, "Pumped Up Kicks" is insanely catchy. I kinda like it though. T'would be interesting if they performed that on stage with the Beach Boys adding to the harmonies. That could be potentially cool.

Ah, see, but that's not how I remember it, Kokomo. When Maroon 5 came out, every motherf*cker I knew thought they were great. Now everyone of you guys is like "Oh, i don't like them, that's chick music". I think you're just pissed that you know he can pull off singing "I Get Around' and you can't.
Foster the People are really cool. I agree. They're almost as cool as Maroon 5.
Of course, since by definition you're too cool to enjoy anything that's mainstream, you'll soon turn on Foster the People too.
Personally, I've never heard much from either band but what little I've heard is a huge turnoff. Nothing 'cool' or 'uncool' about it; they just don't sound good to me. I've never once thought of liking music based on it's popularity or lack thereof.
Furthermore, the nauseating part is pairing this historic Beach Boys performance with some 'flavor of the moment' sh**, whatever it may be. It reeks and sets a bad scene for the reunion tour and LP.
Eh. Let's see what it's like. I think allowing any one TV performance to "set a bad scene" for a year full of recording and touring is taking it a little far.
There will be a lot of historic live performances to come. There will be more TV this year (most likely a special). Who know what the future holds?

I liked the singles from the first Maroon 5 album...even though they sounded like an MOR version of Jamiroquai.

perhaps (and I certainly hope so) ... but the disappointment with this prospect if pretty strong. This is something we've been waiting for for years and likely the beginning of group's last hurrah. We've been through Full House, Summer in Paradise, the possibility of a cool mid-'90s album that became Stars and Stripes, Nascar, Carl's death, Mike & Bruce's Endless Summer Beach Trip, lawsuits, more lawsuits ...
I've been defending the Beach Boys and singing their praises since high school. The group means a lot to me. Smile is released and the reunion and new album, box set, etc are announced. Really seems like everything is going in the right direction to rescue the band's legacy and undo the strangeness of the past several decades.
Until now.
I feel you. But I've let most of that go. It's one of the reasons I prefer BW solo -- it's a more clear-cut scene, generally. But it's also true that the BBs-with-guest-stars model has been par for the course with the group for the last 27 years or so. No reason for it to change now.
Think of it this way: 2011 was for the arty folks in the band. BW got to be the main guy behind the Smile Sessions release. He got to bask in plaudits. Now it's Mike's turn to claim the hitmaking, populist side of the band's legacy.

And that is exactly why I haven't been all that warm to the reunion. Most particularly a new album. What's the first order of business for a new album? Why, re-record one of their old songs, "Do It Again"!
And when the best singer in your band is Al Jardine, well, that doesn't particularly bode too well. And as mentioned, the Beach Boys as a group have made one too many stupid career decisions (specifically beginning in the 1980's and well into the 90's); why would they change?
That all being said, I find for me the best way to look at this reunion is with absolutely no expectations. That actually has helped me look more
forward
to these guys getting back together. Will it be great or will it be a train wreck? Let's find out!

Hear, hear. I think the day the reunion was announced, I said, expect the worst and hope for the best. And that's what I'm doing. This was criticized by some as being insufficiently grateful, but it's the only way I've been able to get through the last couple of months without pulling my hair out.

We Brits have on the whole, I think it's fair to say, not a f*cking clue who these adoptive maroon people are.
Am I speaking for the UK majority, chaps? Or am I just an old Carr who should tune into these Grammies every week?

I can honestly say I never liked Maroon 5. As I said before, I can't stand the guys voice. If I did like them or had at one point, I"d have no problem admitting it.
I don't believe you.
You may not believe me either when I say that I have never liked Maroon5 either.
As for FTP, I do remember Pumped Up Kicks catching my attention at the gym and at an Applebees, and it was enough for me to look it up online later. Not quite enough to make me buy it, but it did stir up some interest.
As for the 3 bands performing together...I don't like it, but there is nothing we can do about it. I'm going to try to make the best of it...

I've always hated Maroon 5 and have honestly not heard of Foster The People. But oddly enough I'm still hip because I'm into this obscure group called The Beach Boys - has anybody else heard of them?

Maybe they all will do Beach Boys songs. Something like: Foster the People I Get Around, Maroon 5 Don't Worry Baby and the Boys Do It Again or some surprise new song.

Regardless of your opinions of Maroon 5, etc., one needs to understand what a major score this is for the group. Let's put aside the nominations special snafu in which the Grammys VERY EASILY could've not given the band a second chance and told them to sort out their bulls hit politics on their own time (and dime). As it is they are giving the group a key, PRIME spot -- and although it's only for a matter of minutes, and with the obligatory Grammy guest star schtick -- this is massive exposure to reintroduce the "brand." It's not as though the Beach Boys have any history with the Grammys -- save for the all but forgotten Lifetime Achievement -- they're invisible to Naras. So, for all intents and purposes, a shed/theater/county fair "oldies" act to get this amount of exposure to publicize a tour/reunion LP is a gift from the gods. As always, it's theirs to blow, but -- on paper at least -- there is nothing to scoff about. Judging from the quality of the "Do It Again" remake, the inclusion of David, and scoring a spot on the Grammys alongside McCartney and Springsteen proves that things are moving forward in a good way for once. It means that someone is doing their job properly.

Yap. Seems they got good management for the whole reunion thing. Everything's going well.
Plus, the rehearsal photo indicates that there might be a part of their Grammy appearance with only the BBs performing. Maybe Maroon5 and Foster the People are joining them after DIA/GV?

I looked up a few videos from Maroon 5 on youtube. As Jar Jar Binks would say, "PEEEEE YU SA!!!'
Bland music with an annoyingly pretentious singer.
I like Foster the People ok. Their big song is good (Pumped Up Kicks)... a few other good songs on their album but on the whole they sound like a one hit wonder band.
Me thinks I will be sticking with THE WALKING DEAD Sunday night and just check the BB out on the internet Monday morning.
